AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing seating furniture with displaceable leg rests face challenges in maintaining a compact stowed position, which compromises aesthetics and functionality, particularly in flat designs, due to the need for a large receptacle space and visible drive gear mechanisms.

Method used

A seating furniture design with a leg rest comprising two segments that can be displaced between a stowed and usage position using a drive gear mechanism, allowing for a compact stowed position by temporarily angling the segments and utilizing a motorized drive member to convert between positions, hidden beneath the seat-base segment.

Benefits of technology

Enables a compact stowed position that maintains aesthetic appeal while providing functional flexibility, allowing for flat furniture designs without visible mechanisms, and reduces production complexity and cost.

Abstract

Piece of seating furniture having a seat-base segment with a seat base and a leg rest including upper and lower leg-rest segments and being movable between stowage and usage positions. In the stowage position, the leg rest is underneath the seat-base segment and in the usage position, upper faces of the leg-rest segments are aligned with the seat base and upper faces thereof point upwards. The leg-rest segments are in a stowage position underneath the seat-base segment and lower faces of the leg-rest segments point upwards towards the seat-base segment. To transfer the piece of seating furniture from the stowage to the usage position, a drive gear converts movement of a drive element into a movement sequence of the leg rest in which the leg-rest segments, during movement into the usage position, are first angled in relation to one another and are subsequently brought into alignment in the usage position.
