Abstract

An accessory includes a base. The base accessory includes a first fastener coupled to the base and extending in a first direction. The first fastener is configured to couple the base accessory to a structure in a first orientation. The base accessory includes a second fastener coupled to the base and extending in a second direction. FIELD

[0001] The present invention relates generally to an accessory that can be removably coupled to a structure such as a shoe, headband, clothing, or handbag.BACKGROUND

[0002] It is desirable to customize wearable items such as apparel, including shoes and clothing, in addition to bags and accessories. Customization allows the user to personalize wearable items making them unique and easily identifiable. Typically, when a user wants a wearable item to wear for a specific occasion, such as for a holiday or a special occasion like a birthday, they must purchase a new item. Purchasing new items for each occasion can become expensive and time consuming for users.

[0003] As recognized by the inventor of the present application, it would be advantageous to provide an accessory that can be removably coupled to various items such as shoes, bags, clothing, and accessories so that the item can be worn with a variety of outfits for a variety of occasions. The present disclosure advantageously provides a solution to the foregoing.SUMMARY

[0004] One embodiment of the present disclosure relates to an accessory. The accessory includes a base. The accessory includes a first fastener coupled to the base and extending in a first direction. The first fastener is configured to couple the accessory to a structure in a first orientation. The accessory includes a second fastener coupled to the base and extending in a second direction. The second fastener is configured to couple the accessory to the structure in a second orientation. The second direction extends at a first non-zero angle relative to the first direction.

[0005] Another embodiment relates to an accessory. The accessory includes an accessory base and a fastener base coupled to the accessory base. The fastener base extends along a longitudinal direction of the base. The fastener base includes a first fastener configured to couple the accessory base to a first structure in a first orientation and a second fastener configured to couple the accessory base to a second structure in a second orientation. The second orientation is angularly offset from the first orientation.

[0027] Referring generally to the FIGURES, disclosed herein is an accessory. The accessory is configured to be coupled to a variety of structures, such as a wearable accessory or clothing item (e.g., a shoe, a shoelace, a purse, a shirt, etc.) as described in more detail below. The accessory generally includes a base, fasteners configured to couple the base to the structure, such as a shoe strap or a shoelace. The fasteners are coupled to the base such that the accessory can be coupled to the structure in at least a first orientation and / or a second orientation (e.g., an orientation rotated from the first orientation, etc.).

[0028] Referring more particularly to FIGS. 1-3, is an accessory 100 according to a first embodiment. As shown in FIGS. 1-3, the accessory 100 includes a base 102. According to this embodiment, the base 102 is a singular piece of fabric or other material, or a combination of materials (e.g., leather, rubber, ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), etc.). In other embodiments, the base 102 may include a plurality of pieces of material (e.g., a first piece of fabric coupled to a second piece of fabric, etc.). The base 102 defines a base plane A-A.

[0029] The accessory 100 includes a design element 104 (a design feature, a design ornament, an ornament, a charm, etc.). The design element 104 is coupled to the base 102. According to this embodiment, the design element 104 is a bow. In other embodiments, the design element 104 may be a flower, a heart, a sports symbol, or any other design, such as a design associated with a holiday.

The second side 204 is opposite the first side 202. For example, the first side 202 is positioned adjacent to a structure (e.g., a shoelace, a shoe strap, a purse strap, a headband, a clip, a loop of fabric, a length of material, Atty. etc.), structured to receive the accessory 100, and the second side 204 faces outward (e.g., away from, etc.) the structure.

In some embodiments, the design element 104 may be removably coupled to the first side 202 of the base 102. According to this embodiment, the first fastener 206 is coupled to second side 204 (e.g., a side opposite the side the design element 104 is coupled to, etc.) of the base 102 via stitching. In other embodiments, the first fastener 206 can be coupled to the base 102 via other securement methods such as glue or other adhesive. For example, the first fastener 206 can be coupled so as to be permanently attached to the base 102 or removably attached to the base 102.

For example, the first fastener 206 extends in the first direction that is parallel to the longitudinal axis AL of the base 102. The first fastener 206 is configured to couple the accessory 100 to a structure. For example, the first fastener 206 is configured to removably couple the accessory 100 to the structure such as a wearable accessory or clothing item (e.g., a shoe, a shoelace, a purse, a headband, etc.). For example, the first fastener 206 is configured to couple the accessory 100 to the structure, such as a shoelace or a shoe strap, in a first orientation. According to this embodiment, when the accessory 100 is coupled to the structure in the first orientation, the longitudinal axis AL of the base 102 is perpendicular to the shoelace or shoe strap. For example, the structure, such as the shoelace or the shoe strap, is threaded (e.g., passed, fed, etc.) through the first fastener 206.

[0035] The base 102 also includes a second fastener 208 and a third fastener 210. According to this embodiment, the second fastener 208 and the third fastener 210 are substantially similar. Each of the second fastener 208 and the third fastener 210 are coupled to the base 102 (e.g., via stitching, via glue, etc.). According to this embodiment, each of the second fastener 208 and the third fastener 210 are stitched to the second side 204 (e.g., are coupled to the same side as the first fastener 206, are coupled to a side opposite the design element 104, etc.). The design element 104 can vary in size, and has a smaller surface area than a surface area of the second side 204. The accessory 100 can be configured to accommodate a plurality of design elements 104 which can differ in size and placement.

The second direction extends at an angle relative to the first direction of the first fastener 206. For example, the second direction extends at an angle a relative to a longitudinal axis AL of the base 102. In other embodiments, the angle a can be in a range between about 30 degrees and about 60 degrees relative to the longitudinal axis AL.

For example, the structure, such as a shoelace or shoe strap, is threaded through each of the second fastener 208 and the third fastener 210 to couple the accessory 100 to the structure in the second orientation. The first fastener 206 is compressible such that the first fastener 206 can be pressed against the base 102 to facilitate threading of a structure, such as a shoelace or shoe strap, through each of the second fastener 208 and the third fastener 210. For example, the first fastener 206 is compressed down against the base 102 and the structure is threaded through the second fastener 208, extends across a top portion of the first fastener 206, and is then threaded through the third fastener 210. When the accessory 100 is coupled to the structure in the second orientation, the longitudinal axis AL of the base 102 is parallel to the shoelace or shoe strap.

[0039] In another embodiment, the first fastener 206 defines a first fastener first aperture and a first fastener second aperture. For example, the first fastener first aperture is defined on a side of the first fastener 206 adjacent to the second fastener 208 and the first fastener second aperture is defined on a side of the first fastener 06 adjacent to the third fastener 210. According to this embodiment, the second fastener 208 and third fastener 210 are substantially similar (e.g., formed of similar material, similar in size / circumference, extending perpendicular to the longitudinal axis AL, etc.). In other embodiments, the second fastener 208 and the third fastener 210 are different such that they vary in size and / or extend in different directions. In yet another embodiment, the accessory 100 can any combination of the first fastener 206, the second fastener 208, and the third fastener 210. For example, the accessory 100 can include just the first fastener 206 and the second fastener 208 and may not include the third fastener 210.

[0041] Now referring to FIG. 3, is a side view of the accessory 100. The first fastener 206 defines a first opening 302. The first opening 302 has a first cross-sectional area 304 (e.g., a first diameter, etc.). To couple the accessory 100 to the structure, the structure is threaded through the first opening 302. For example, a shoe strap may be threaded in a direction from a top end to a bottom end of the base 102 (e.g., in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal base AL).

The second opening 306 defines a second cross-sectional area 310 and the third opening 308 defines a third cross-sectional area 312. As such that first fastener 206 can facilitate coupling the accessory 100 to a larger structure (e.g., a shoe strap, a purse strap, etc.) and each of the second fastener 208 and the third fastener 210 can facilitate coupling the accessory 100 to smaller structures (e.g., a shoelace, etc.).

It should be appreciated that the accessory 100 can be coupled to a wide variety of surfaces on different underlying structures, such as different kinds of footwear (Mary Janes, other T-strap shoes, walking shoes, dance shoes, clogs with straps, Huarache-style shoes, etc.).

An accessory comprising:a base;a first fastener coupled to the base and extending in a first direction, the first fastener comprising a rigid material and configured to couple the base to a structure in a first orientation, the first fastener defines a first opening having a first cross-sectional area; anda second fastener coupled to the base and extending in a second direction, the second fastener comprising an elastic material configured to couple the base to the structure in a second orientation, the second fastener defines a second opening having a second cross-sectional area, the second cross-sectional area being smaller than the first cross-sectional area,wherein the second direction extends at a first non-zero angle relative to the first direction.

2. The accessory of claim 1, further comprising a third fastener coupled to the base and extending in a third direction, the third fastener configured to couple the base to the structure in the second orientation.

3. The accessory of claim 2, wherein the third direction extends at a second non-zero angle relative to the first direction.

4. The accessory of claim 3, wherein the first non-zero angle and the second non-zero angle are in a range between about 80 degrees and about 100 degrees.

5. The accessory of claim 2, wherein each of the second direction and the third direction are perpendicular to the first direction.

6. The accessory of claim 1, wherein each of the first fastener and the second fastener are adjustable straps configured to be positioned around at least a portion of the structure.

12. The accessory of claim 9, wherein the first fastener is a first opening defined by the fastener base, the first opening extending along a longitudinal axis of the fastener base.

13. The accessory of claim 12, wherein the second fastener is a plurality of second openings defined by the fastener base, each of the second openings extend in a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction.

The accessory of claim 9, wherein the fastener base comprises at least a first portion, a second portion, and a third portion each coupled to the accessory base, andwherein a first length of the fastener base between the first portion and the second portion defines an extent of the first fastener and a second length of the fastener base between the second portion and the third portion defines an extent of the second fastener.

15. The accessory of claim 14, wherein the first length is greater than the second length and the first length extends at a non-zero angle relative to the second length.

A method of manufacturing an accessory, the method comprising:coupling a first fastener to a first side of an accessory base of the accessory, the first fastener comprising a rigid material and extending in a first direction defining a first opening having a first cross-sectional area;coupling a second fastener to the first side of the accessory base adjacent to a first end of the first fastener, the second fastener comprising an elastic material and extending in a second direction defining a second opening having a second cross-sectional area, the second cross-sectional area being smaller than the first cross-sectional area; andcoupling an ornament to a second side of the accessory base, the ornament having a smaller surface area than a surface area of the second side,wherein the second direction extends at a first non-zero angle relative to the first direction.

17. The method of claim 16, further comprising coupling a third fastener to the first side of the accessory base adjacent to a second end of the first fastener, the third fastener extending in a third direction.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the third direction extends at a second non-zero angle relative to the first direction.

19. The method of claim 16, wherein coupling each of the first fastener and the second fastener to the accessory base comprises stitching each of the first fastener and the second fastener to the accessory base.

20. The method of claim 16, wherein the ornament is a bow, and coupling the ornament to the second side of the accessory base comprises stitching the bow to the second side of the accessory base.

21. The accessory of claim 1, further comprising a design element removably coupled to the base via a hook-and-loop fastener.

The accessory of claim 1, wherein the first fastener defines a plurality of apertures therethrough, the plurality of apertures configured to couple the base to the structure in the second orientation,wherein the first fastener defines a first opening and the second fastener defines a second opening, andwherein in the second orientation, the structure is threaded through the second opening defined by the second fastener and each of the plurality of apertures defined by the first fastener.
