[0001] This application claim benefit of provisional patent application No. 63 / 748,035 filed on Jan. 22, 2025, which is hereby incorporated by reference.FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0002] The present invention is directed to a non-electrical hair brush. In particular, a hair brush that produces negative ions to reduce static of the hair while brushing and a method of using such hair brush.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0003] Like charges (positive to positive or negative to negative) repel and opposite charges (positive to negative) attract. Hair naturally loses negative ions through contact and transfer to objects / materials due to the weak negative bonds. This result in hair strands with an excess of positive charges causing the strands to repel away from each other, attract to clothing, objects or particles in the air. This gives the perception and appearance of “hair frizz” or “staticky” hair.

[0004] Tourmaline is a mineral that, when heated, generates an electric charge that interacts with moisture in the air or on the hair to create negative ions. Tourmaline has been used to coat electrical hair tools that are electrically heated to produce negative ions when in operation. A fan may be provided in the electrical hair tools to push and distribute the negative ions from the hair tools towards the hair.

[0005] Sodium salt (secondary alkane sulphonate) is another mineral that releases negative ions similar to tourmaline.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] The present invention is an improved hair brush that produces negative ion. The hair brush is non-electrical and produces negative ions when heated by an external source or when interacting with hair (i.e. from friction). To effectively produce negative ions, the hair brush of the present invention has more than one component that is coated or infused with a thermally emissive mineral that produces negative ions such as tourmaline crystals or that is made with a composite material that includes tourmaline crystals.

[0007] Alternatively, or in addition to the tourmaline crystals, the hair brush of the present invention has more than one component that is coated or infused with sodium salt or that is made with a composite material that includes sodium salt.

[0008] The hair brush of the present invention may include the following components: body, handle, cushion / pad, bristles, and bristle tips. Further, the body of the hair brush may include openings to improve air flow for effective release of negative ions from the hair brush components towards the hair.

[0015] With reference to the drawings, wherein the same reference number indicates the same element throughout, there is shown in FIGS. 1, 2, and 4, a hair brush 100 of the present invention. Hair brush 100 includes a body 1 that forms the brush head, a handle 2 connected to the body to facilitate handling of the hair brush 100 by a user, a cushion / pad 3 attached to the body 1 that completes the brush head, a plurality of bristles 4 mounted or attached to the cushion / pad 3 for brushing and / or distributing the hair, and bristles tip 5 at the distal end of each bristle 4 that contacts a user's hair / scalp.

[0016] One or more of the hair brush components listed above, i.e. body 1, handle 2, cushion / pad 3, bristles 4, and bristle tips 5, is coated (fully or partially) with, infused with, or is made of a composite material that includes a thermally emissive mineral that produces negative ions such as tourmaline crystals or tourmaline minerals. Alternatively, one or more of these hair brush components is coated with, infused with, or is made of a composite material that includes sodium salt. Further, one or more of these hair brush components is coated with, infused with, or is made of a composite material that includes both tourmaline crystals / minerals and sodium salt, in various ratios.

[0017] The hair brush 100 is non-electrical and not independently heated. Negative ions are generated when the hair brush 100 is used along with hair tools that heat up the hair or hair brush 100, such as a blow dryer, hair iron, etc. Negative ions are also generated when the hair brush 100 is used without an external heat source, from the friction between the hair brush 100 and hair during brushing. When the hair brush 100 is being used, the motion of brushing hair with the hair brush 100 would produce negative ions that neutralize positive charges in the hair, resulting in reduced frizz or static in the hair.

[0018] The hair brush body 1 includes a plurality of openings 6 that allow air flow into and out of the cavity 7 formed between the body 1 and cushion / pad 3. When the hair brush 100 is being used to brush a user's hair, the flexible cushion / pad 3 would flex / compress and push air out from the cavity 7 through the openings 6. Air flow out of the cavity 7 and through openings 6 would carry and distribute negative ions generated from the hair brush 100 towards the user's hair, resulting in more efficient and effective release and distribution of negative ions. The number (e.g. 2-90+), shape (e.g. geometric, random, uniform or non-uniform), and size (e.g. <1 mm, nearly size of the brush head) of the openings 6 can vary.

[0019] FIG. 3 shows a hair brush 200 of the present invention that has all the same components and features as hair brush 100 described in connection with FIGS. 1, 2 and 4, except for the shape of the body being generally rectangular instead of oval to form a paddle brush.

[0020] Other thermally emissive mineral that produces negative ions other than tourmaline crystals, tourmaline minerals, sodium salt, secondary alkane sulphonate, etc. can be used instead of or in combination with.

[0021] The percentages of tourmaline crystals, tourmaline minerals, sodium salt, and / or secondary alkane sulphonate, incorporated into the material can vary and preferably at two percent (2%) for the bristles 4, at two percent (2%) for the bristle tips 5, and at half a percent (0.5%) for the cushion / pad 3, all + / −10% deviation.

[0022] While the present invention has been particularly shown and described with reference to exemplary embodiments thereof, it will be apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art that various changes in form and detail may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the following claims.

Claims

1. A non-electrical hair brush that generates negative ions for brushing hair, comprising:a brush body;a cushion / pad attached to said brush body to form a brush head; anda plurality of bristles mounted on said cushion / pad;wherein said brush head and said plurality of bristles incorporate a thermally emissive mineral that generates negative ions when the hair brush is being used for brushing hair.

2. The non-electrical hair brush of claim 1, wherein said thermally emissive mineral is selected from a group consisting of: tourmaline crystals, tourmaline minerals, sodium salt, and secondary alkane sulphonate.

3. The non-electrical hair brush of claim 1, wherein said thermally emissive mineral form a coating on at least a portion of said brush head and at least a portion of said plurality of bristles.

4. The non-electrical hair brush of claim 1, wherein said thermally emissive mineral is infused in the material of said brush head and said plurality of bristles.

5. The non-electrical hair brush of claim 1, wherein said brush body includes a plurality of openings to aid in the release and distribution of negative ions generated from said thermally emissive mineral.

6. The non-electrical hair brush of claim 1, further comprising a handle extending from said brush head that incorporates a thermally emissive mineral that generates negative ions when the hair brush is being used for brushing hair.

7. The non-electrical hair brush of claim 1, further comprising a bristle tip at the distal end of each of said plurality of bristles that incorporates a thermally emissive mineral that generates negative ions when the hair brush is being used for brushing hair.

8. The non-electrical hair brush of claim 1, wherein said hair brush incorporates half a percent to two percent of thermally emissive mineral.

9. The non-electrical hair brush of claim 1, wherein said plurality of bristles incorporate two percent of thermally emissive mineral.

10. The non-electrical hair brush of claim 1, wherein said cushion / pad incorporates half a percent of thermally emissive mineral.

11. The non-electrical hair brush of claim 7, wherein said bristle tip incorporates two percent of thermally emissive mineral.

12. The method of brushing hair to minimize static of a user's hair, comprising:using a non-electrical hair brush with a brush body, a cushion / pad attached to said brush body to form a brush head, and a plurality of bristles mounted on said cushion / pad, wherein said brush head and said plurality of bristles incorporate a thermally emissive mineral that generates negative ions when said hair brush is being used for brushing hair.

13. The method of brushing hair of claim 12, further comprising providing a heat source while brushing hair with said hair brush.

14. The method of brushing hair of claim 12, wherein said brush body includes a plurality of openings, comprising distributing negative ions through said plurality of openings to the hair when said cushion / pad of said hair brush compresses while being used for brushing hair.
