AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing containers for consumer goods, such as aerosol-generating articles, face challenges in providing easy access while maintaining secure closure, material efficiency, and reliable reclosure, often resulting in misalignment and incomplete sealing due to the design of the lid mechanism.

Method used

The container features a first panel with a line of weakness forming a lid that pivots about a hinge line, enhanced by a second panel overlaying the first panel to guide and secure the lid's closure, and a top wall composed of multiple overlapping panels for improved alignment and strength.

Benefits of technology

This design ensures consistent and reliable opening and closing, provides visual indication of container integrity, reduces material usage, and enhances structural strength, while maintaining easy access to the contents.

Abstract

A container for consumer goods is provided, including: an access opening to permit access to an interior of the container; and a hinge line, a first wall of the container including a first panel having a line of weakness and a second panel overlying the first panel, a first portion of the first panel being separable from a second portion of the first panel along the line of weakness to form a lid including at least the first portion of the first panel to pivot about the hinge line between a closed position in which the lid covers the access opening and an open position exposing the opening, the second panel overlying the second portion of the first panel and partially overlying the first portion of the first panel, and the outer surface of the first wall defined by the second panel and the first portion of the first panel.
