A shoe comprising:a sole; andan upper secured to the sole;the sole having a sole heel end and a sole toe end, the sole extending along a shoe axis from the sole heel end to the sole toe end, the sole having a lateral side extending from the sole heel end to the sole toe end and a medial side extending from the sole heel end to the sole toe end, the sole extending transversely from the lateral side to the medial side, the sole having a sole heel region, a sole midfoot region, a sole forefoot region, a sole metatarsal region, a sole ball region, and a sole toe region, the sole heel region extending longitudinally from the sole heel end to the sole midfoot region, the sole midfoot region extending longitudinally from the sole heel region to the sole forefoot region, the sole forefoot region extending longitudinally from the sole midfoot region to the sole metatarsal region, the sole metatarsal region extending longitudinally from the sole forefoot region to the sole ball region, the sole ball region extending longitudinally from the sole metatarsal region to the toe region, the sole toe region extending longitudinally from the sole ball region to the sole toe end, the sole heel region having a lateral heel portion and a medial heel portion, the sole midfoot region having a lateral midfoot portion and a medial midfoot portion, the sole forefoot region having a lateral forefoot portion and a medial forefoot portion, the sole metatarsal region having a lateral metatarsal portion and a medial metatarsal portion, the sole ball region having a lateral ball portion and a medial ball portion, the sole toe region having a lateral toe portion and a medial toe portion;the sole having a sole bottom surface, the sole bottom surface comprising a plurality of grooves, each of the plurality of grooves having a central portion, a first wing portion, a second wing portion, a third wing portion, and a fourth wing portion, the central portion having a first end and a second end, the first wing portion extending from the first end and generally toward the toe end, the second wing portion extending from the first end and generally toward the heel end, the third wing portion extending from the second end and generally toward the toe end, the fourth wing portion extending from the second end and generally toward the heel end, and wherein each of at least some of the plurality of grooves are spaced from and adjacent another of the plurality of grooves.

2. The shoe of claim 1 wherein each of at least some of the central portions of the plurality of grooves are either colinear or parallel with one another.

3. The shoe of claim 1 wherein the first and second wing portions diverge away from each other toward the lateral side and the third and fourth wing portions diverge away from each other toward the medial side.

4. The shoe of claim 3 wherein the first and second wing portions diverge away from each other at an angle between 20° and 170°, inclusive, and the third and fourth wing portions diverge away from each other at an angle between 20° and 170°, inclusive.

5. The shoe of claim 4 wherein the first and second wing portions diverge away from each other at an acute angle and the third and fourth wing portions diverge away from each other at an acute angle.

6. The shoe of claim 4 wherein the first and second wing portions diverge away from each other at a right angle and the third and fourth wing portions diverge away from each other at a right angle.

7. The shoe of claim 4 wherein the first and second wing portions diverge away from each other at an obtuse angle and the third and fourth wing portions diverge away from each other at an obtuse angle.

8. The shoe of claim 1 wherein the sole comprises a midsole and an outsole, the outsole having the sole bottom surface, and wherein each of at least some of the central portions of the plurality of grooves comprises a central portion hole in the outsole, the central portion holes being adapted and configured such that a portion of the midsole is visible through the central portion holes.

The shoe of claim 1 wherein the plurality of grooves comprises a first groove, a second groove, and a third groove, the central portions of the first and second grooves being colinear, the second groove being spaced from the first groove such that the first groove is nearer the lateral side than the second groove, the central portion of the third groove being parallel to the central portions of the first and second grooves, the third groove being spaced from the first and second grooves such that the first wing portion of the third groove is adjacent the fourth wing portion of the first groove and the third wing portion of the third groove is adjacent the second wing portion of the second groove.

10. The shoe of claim 9 wherein the plurality of grooves further comprises a fourth groove and a fifth groove, the central portions of the fourth and fifth grooves being colinear, the fifth groove being spaced from the fourth groove such that the fourth groove is nearer the lateral side than the fifth groove, the central portion of the third groove being parallel to the central portions of the fourth and fifth grooves, the third groove being spaced from the fourth and fifth grooves such that the second wing portion of the third groove is adjacent the third wing portion of the fourth groove and the fourth wing portion of the third groove is adjacent the first wing portion of the fifth groove.

11. The shoe of claim 10 wherein the plurality of grooves further comprises a sixth groove, the sixth groove being spaced from the fourth and fifth grooves such that the first wing portion of the sixth groove is adjacent the fourth wing portion of the fourth groove and the third wing portion of the sixth groove is adjacent the second wing portion of the fifth groove.

12. The shoe of claim 11 wherein the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grooves bound a tread element.

13. The shoe of claim 12 wherein the tread element is hexagonal.

14. The shoe of claim 12 wherein the sole comprises a midsole and an outsole, the outsole having the sole bottom surface, and wherein the tread element comprises a through hole in the outsole, the through hole being adapted and configured such that a portion of the midsole is visible through the through hole.

15. The shoe of claim 1 wherein the sole bottom surface further comprises a plurality of tread elements, each of the plurality of tread elements being bounded by at least three of the plurality of grooves.

16. The shoe of claim 15 wherein a majority of the plurality of tread elements are hexagonal.

17. The shoe of claim 16 wherein a majority of the plurality of tread elements are bounded by four grooves.

18. The shoe of claim 15 wherein a majority of the plurality of tread elements are bounded by four grooves.

19. The shoe of claim 1 wherein the sole bottom surface comprises a plurality of sipes, each of the plurality of sipes extending from the medial side to the lateral side.

The shoe of claim 19 wherein the plurality of sipes comprises a first sipe, a second sipe, a third sipe, and a fourth sipe, the first sipe extending from the medial toe portion to the lateral toe portion, the second sipe extending from the medial metatarsal portion to the lateral metatarsal portion, the third sipe extending from the medial forefoot portion to the lateral forefoot portion, the fourth sipe extending from the medial midfoot portion to the lateral midfoot portion.
