For example, during a bench press lift, after a number of successful repetitions, the weightlifter may no longer be able to complete a final repetition due to fatigue. In such circumstances, the spotter may apply an upward force to the weightlifting bar to assist in the completion of the final repetition.

As a result, the safety spotter arms, and barbell catches are always present. Additionally, there is a minimum height that the spotter arms are allowed to be lowered to. The minimum height may be high enough to keep weightlifters safe in the event of muscular failure.

A weightlifting apparatus, comprising:first and second support posts; andfirst and second spotter arms permanently connected to the first and second support posts, respectively, wherein the first and second spotter arms are configured to be selectively positioned along the first and second support posts to define an adjustable barbell boundary.
2. The weightlifting apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first and second spotter arms extend continuously from the first and second support posts to define the barbell boundary.
3. The weightlifting apparatus of claim 1, further comprising first and second stops connected to the first and second support posts, respectively, wherein the first and second stops are positioned to prevent the barbell boundary from being closer than a predetermined distance to one or more surfaces supporting the first and second support posts.
4. The weightlifting apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first and second spotter arms are selectively slidably connected to the first and second support posts, respectively.
5. The weightlifting apparatus of claim 4, wherein the first and second spotter arms are respectively positioned on the first and second support posts by first and second handle detents.
6. The weightlifting apparatus of claim 5, wherein the first and second handle detents each have a handle adjacent a detent actuator.
7. The weightlifting apparatus of claim 1, further comprising first and second barbell catches, wherein the first and second barbell catches are configured to hold a barbell.
8. The weightlifting apparatus of claim 7, wherein the first and second barbell catches are slidably connected to the first and second support posts, respectively.
9. The weightlifting apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a weightlifting bench, wherein the barbell boundary in defined in relation to a supporting surface of the weightlifting bench.

A method of operating the weightlifting apparatus of claim 1, the method comprising:releasing the first spotter arm from a first fixed position on the first support post;releasing the second spotter arm from a second fixed position on the second support post;sliding the first spotter arm along the first support post to a third fixed position on the first support post;sliding the second spotter arm along the second support post to a fourth fixed position on the second support post;fixing the first spotter arm at the third fixed position on the first support post; andfixing the second spotter arm at the fourth fixed position on the second support post.
11. A method of manufacturing a weightlifting apparatus, the method comprising:attaching a first support post to a second support post;permanently attaching a first spotter arm to the first support post, wherein the first spotter arm is configured to be selectively positioned along the first support post; andpermanently attaching a second spotter arm to the second support post, wherein the second spotter arms is configured to be selectively positioned along the second support post,wherein the first and second spotter arms define an adjustable barbell boundary.
12. The method of claim 11, wherein the first and second spotter arms extend continuously from the first and second support posts to define the barbell boundary.
13. The method of claim 11, further comprising forming first and second stops on the first and second support posts, respectively, wherein the first and second stops are positioned to prevent the barbell boundary from being closer than a predetermined distance to one or more surfaces supporting the first and second support posts.
14. The method of claim 11, wherein the first and second spotter arms are selectively slidably connected to the first and second support posts, respectively.
15. The method of claim 14, wherein the first and second spotter arms respectively comprise first and second handle detents, wherein the first and second spotter arms are respectively movable along the first and second support posts by the first and second handle detents, and wherein each of the first and second handle detents has a handle adjacent to a detent actuator.
16. The method of claim 11, further comprising attaching first and second barbell catches to the first and second support posts, wherein the first and second barbell catches are configured to hold a barbell, and wherein the first and second barbell catches are slidably connected to the first and second support posts, respectively.
17. A method of operating, the method comprising:with first and second spotter arms of weightlifting apparatus permanently connected to first and second support posts of the weightlifting apparatus, defining an adjustable barbell boundary;maintaining a first permanent connection between the first spotter arm and the first support post while the first spotter arm is released from a first fixed position on the first support post;maintaining a second permanent connection between the second spotter arm and the second support post while the second spotter arm is released from a second fixed position on the second support post;maintaining the first permanent connection between the first spotter arm and the first support post while the first spotter arm is slid from the first fixed position to a third position;maintaining the second permanent connection between the second spotter arm and the second support post while the second spotter arm is slid from the second fixed position to a fourth position; andmaintaining the first and second permanent connections while the first and second spotter arms are respectively fixed to the third and fourth positions.
18. The method of claim 17, further comprising preventing the first and second spotter arms from additional sliding with first and second stops connected to the first and second support posts, respectively, wherein the first and second stops are positioned to prevent the barbell boundary from being closer than a predetermined distance to one or more surfaces supporting the first and second support posts.
19. The method of claim 17, further comprising:maintaining a third permanent connection between a first barbell catch and the first support post while the first barbell catch is released from a fifth fixed position on the first support post;maintaining a fourth permanent connection between a second barbell catch and the second support post while the second barbell catch is released from a sixth fixed position on the second support post, wherein the first and second barbell catches are configured to hold a barbell;maintaining the third permanent connection between the first barbell catch and the first support post while the first barbell catch is slid from the fifth fixed position to a seventh position;maintaining the fourth permanent connection between the second barbell catch and the second support post while the second barbell catch is slid from the sixth fixed position to an eighth position; andmaintaining the third and fourth permanent connections while the first and second barbell catches are respectively fixed to the seventh and eighth positions.
20. The method of claim 17, wherein the first and second spotter arms are respectively positioned on the first and second support posts by first and second handle detents, each having a handle adjacent to a detent actuator.
