Abstract

A lid for a drink container, the lid including: a body including a first side, a second side opposite the first side, and an opening formed through the first side and the second side, the second side configured to removably couple to the drink container, the opening configured to permit fluid to pass therethrough; a slider slidable relative to the body between a closed position, in which the opening is closed, and an open position, in which the opening is open; and a hanger movable relative to the body between a first position, in which the hanger engages the slider to inhibit the slider from moving from the closed position to the open position, and a second position, in which the hanger extends outwardly from the body and is configured to couple the lid to a support.

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

[0002] The present subject matter relates to drink containers, lids for drink containers, and a lid for a drink container including a hanger.

[0003] In some aspects, the techniques described herein relate to a lid for a drink container, the lid including: a body including a first side, a second side opposite the first side, and an opening formed through the first side and the second side, the second side configured to removably couple to the drink container, the opening configured to permit fluid to pass therethrough; a slider slidable relative to the body between a closed position, in which the opening is closed, and an open position, in which the opening is open; and a hanger movable relative to the body between a first position, in which the hanger engages the slider to inhibit the slider from moving from the closed position to the open position, and a second position, in which the hanger extends outwardly from the body and is configured to couple the lid to a support.

[0047] FIGS. 1-4 illustrate a drink assembly 10 including a drink container 14 having a lid 18 removably coupled thereto. The lid 18 includes a body 20 having a first side, a second side opposite the first side, and an opening 22 (FIG. 6-7C) formed through the first side and the second side. The first side may also be considered a top or outer side of the body 20 and the lid 18. The second side may also be considered a bottom or inner side of the body 20 and the lid 18. The opening 22 extends through the body 20 and is configured to permit fluid to pass therethrough from the drink container 14. The lid 18 also includes a slider 26 that is movable (e.g., slideable) relative to the body 20 between a closed position (FIGS. 1, 5, 11B) and an open position (FIGS. 11C). In the closed position, the slider 26 is positioned over the opening 22 such that the opening 22 is closed, and fluid cannot pass therethrough from the drink container 14. In the open position, the slider 26 is spaced apart from the opening 22 such that the opening 22 is unobstructed, and fluid can pass therethrough. The lid 18 further includes a hanger 30 movable relative to the body 20 between a first position (FIGS. 1, 5, and 11B) and a second position (FIGS. 2-3). In the first position, the hanger 30 engages the body 20 to retain the hanger 30 in the first position. While in the first position, the hanger 30 is positioned to inhibit the slider 26 from moving from the closed position and the open position. In the second position, the hanger 30 extends outwardly from the lid 18 and is configured to couple the lid 18, with the drink container 14, to a support 28. The support 28 may be, for example, a wall rail or wall rack, such as a wall rail of the RYOBI LINK Modular Storage System.

[0048] With respect to FIG. 1, the drink container 14 includes a body 16 that has a closed end and an open end opposite the closed end. With respect to FIGS. 9-11C, the second side of the body 20 of the lid 18 is configured to couple to the open end of the drink container 14. In the illustrated embodiment, the open end of the drink container 14 and the second side of the body 20 of the lid 18 each include threaded interfaces 34, 38 that are configured to mate with one another. In other embodiments, the second side of the body 20 may couple to the open end of the drink container 14 in other suitable ways.

[0049] With renewed reference to FIG. 6, the body 20 includes a recess 42 in the first side and a pair of projections 46, 48 (e.g., ears) extending outwardly from the first side. As discussed in greater detail below, the ears 46, 48 are configured to pivotably couple the hanger 30 to the body 20. The body 20 includes an intermediate wall 50 that is spaced apart from the first side and a peripheral wall 54 that extends between the first side and the intermediate wall 50. Accordingly, the intermediate wall 50 is positioned between the first side and the second side. The recess 42 is defined by the intermediate wall 50 and the peripheral wall 54. The intermediate wall 50 includes an outer surface facing the first side of the body 20 and an inner surface facing the second side of the body 20. In other words, the inner surface of the intermediate wall 50 faces toward or into the drink container 14, and the outer surface of the intermediate wall 50 faces away from the drink container 14. As shown in FIGS. 7C, the outer surface defines a plane P1 that is positioned at a non-parallel angle relative to a plane P2 defined by the second side of the body 20. Similarly, the inner surface defines a plane P3 that is positioned at a non-parallel angle relative to a plane P2 defined by the second side of the lid 18. In the illustrated embodiment, the planes P1, P3 are not parallel to one another. In other embodiments, the planes P1, P3 may be parallel to the plane P2 of the second side and to one another. A detent 56 extends inwardly from the peripheral wall 54 and is positioned adjacent to the ears 46, 48.

[0050] Referring back to FIG. 7C, the intermediate wall 50 also includes a channel 58 in the outer surface in which the slider 26 is movably (e.g., slidably) positioned. The channel 58 has a first end and a second end opposite the first end. The opening 22 extends through the intermediate wall 50 and is positioned within the channel 58 adjacent the first end thereof. The opening 22 is positioned on an opposite side of the lid 18 from the ears 46, 48 and the detent 56, as shown.

[0051] Additionally, a slot 62 extends though the intermediate wall 50 and is positioned within the channel 58. The slot 62 is spaced apart from the opening 22 and includes a first end and a second end. In the illustrated embodiment, the slot 62 is positioned between the opening 22 and the second end of the channel 58. The second end of the slot 62 is positioned closer to the second end of the channel 58. A pair of guide rails 66, 68 extends along opposite sides of the slot 62 from the first end towards the second end. Each of the guide rails 66, 68 includes a first end adjacent the first end of the slot 62 and a second end opposite the first end. At least a portion of the guide rails 66, 68 extend parallel to the plane P3 of the inner surface. In some embodiments, such as the one shown, an inner surface of each of the guide rails 66, 68 is generally parallel to but not coextensive with the plane P3. In other embodiments, an inner surface of the guide rails 66, 68 is coextensive with the inner surface of the intermediate wall 50. Each of the rails includes a guide surface 66’, 68’ that is recessed relative to the outer surface of the intermediate wall 50 and has at least a portion that is inclined relative to the inner surface of the intermediate wall 50. Accordingly, at least a portion of each of the guide surfaces 66’, 68’ is inclined relative to the plane P3. That is, with respect to FIG. 7C, at least a portion of the guide surfaces 66’, 68’ are positioned at a non-parallel angle α (only shown relative to the guide rail 66) relative to the inner surface (and the plane P3 thereof). As shown, due to the incline of the guide surfaces 66’, 68’, a height H of each of the guide rails 66, 68 increases from its second end towards its first end (e.g., towards the opening 22). In the illustrated embodiment, the guide surfaces 66’, 68’ are stepped. That is, there is a first step 66a’ and a second step 66b’ that are separated by the inclined portion 66c’. The height H of the first step 66a’ is greater than the height H of the second step 66b’. In other embodiments, the entire guide surface 66’, 68’ may be inclined relative the first inner surface of the intermediate wall 50. A gap 70, 72 is defined between each of the guide rails 66, 68 and the second end of the slot 62.

[0052] As shown in FIG. 7A, the intermediate wall 50 includes a first projection 74 and a second projection 78. The first and second projections 74, 78 are positioned within the channel 58 on either side of the slot 62. Specifically, the first projection 74 and the second projection 78 extend from a surface of the channel 58. In other embodiments, the channel 58 may be omitted, such that the projections 74, 78 extend from the outer surface of the intermediate wall 50 instead. Moreover, the intermediate wall 50 includes apertures 80 extending therethrough, as shown in FIG. 7A. The apertures 80 are positioned within the channel 58 on either side of the slot 62. Also, one of the apertures 80 is positioned between a wall of the channel 58 and one of the projections 74, 78, and the other of the apertures 80 is positioned between the wall of the channel and the other of the projections 74, 78. The apertures 80 provide vents for air to move therethrough. As shown in FIG. 7B, the intermediate wall 50 also includes a third projection 82 and a fourth projection 86 that extend from the inner surface thereof. Finally, as shown in FIG. 7C, there is a recess 84 in the inner surface of the intermediate wall 50. The recess 84 is aligned with the channel 58 and adjacent to the second end of the slot 62, opposite the opening 22.

[0053] With respect to FIG. 6, the slider 26 includes a first slider portion 100 positioned adjacent the outer surface of the intermediate wall 50 and a second slider portion 104 positioned adjacent the inner surface of the intermediate wall 50. The first slider portion 100 and the second slider portion 104 are coupled to one another through the intermediate wall 50, and specifically, the slot 62. Accordingly, the first and second slider portions 100, 104 move together between the closed position and the open position.

[0054] With respect to FIGS. 6 and 8, the first slider portion 100 includes a first end and a second end opposite the first end. The first slider portion 100 includes a top surface and a bottom surface. The second end of the first slider portion 100 includes a stop surface 108. In some embodiments, the stop surface 108 may be a tapered or inclined edge. If so, the tapered edge may be positioned at an oblique angle relative to the top surface. Also, in the illustrated embodiment there are two stop surfaces 108. In other embodiments, there may be a single stop surface 108 or more than two stop surfaces 108. The bottom surface includes a first channel 112, a second channel 116, and a recess 117. Sidewalls of the first slider portion 100 include channels 118 on opposite sides thereof that allow communication between the recess 117 and an exterior of the first slider portion 100. A bore 120 extends from the bottom surface towards the top surface. The bore 120 includes a groove 124 extending about its inner surface.

[0055] With respect to FIG. 6, the second slider portion 104 includes a first end and a second end opposite the first end. The second slider portion 104 includes a top surface and a bottom surface. A post 130 extends from the top surface. The post 130 includes a detent 134 extending about an outer surface thereof. Also, a first hook 138 and a second hook 142 are positioned on opposite sides of the post 130, and each extends from the top surface. Each of the hooks 138, 142 includes a guide surface 138’, 142’. A gasket or seal 154 is positioned between the top surface and the bottom surface.

[0056] As shown in FIGS. 9-11B, when coupled to the lid 18, the first and second slider portions 100, 104 are on opposite sides of the intermediate wall 50 and coupled to one another through the intermediate wall 50 (e.g., through the slot 62). The second slider portion 104 is positioned adjacent the inner surface of the intermediate wall 50. As shown in FIGS. 10A and 11A, the third projection 82 and the fourth projection 86 of the lid 18 are positioned on opposite sides of the second slider portion 104 and the post 130 extends through the slot 62. In other embodiments, as shown in FIG. 10B, the third projection 82 and the fourth projection 86 of the lid 18 are received within a third channel 146 and a fourth channel 150, respectively, of the second slider portion 104, instead. Thus, the third projection 82 and the fourth projection 86 laterally constrain the second slider portion 104. The seal 154 is positioned between the inner surface of the intermediate wall 50 and the second slider portion 104. The first slider portion 100 is received within the channel 58 of the intermediate wall 50 such that the first end is closer to the first end of the channel 58 and the second end is closer to the second end of the channel 58. Moreover, the bore 120 receives the post 130, such that the detent 134 is positioned within the groove 124 of the bore 120. Although the illustrated slider 26 shows the bore 120 received in the first slider portion 100 and the post 130 extending from the second slider portion 104, in other embodiments, the bore 120 may be formed in the second slider portion 104 and the post 130 may extend from the first slider portion 100. The post 130 is retained within the bore 120 via a snap-fit engagement between the detent 134 and the groove 124. In other embodiments, the post 130 may be retained in other ways (e.g., a magnetic engagement, a frictional engagement, etc.). As shown in FIGS. 11A and 11B, the hooks 138, 142 engage the respective rail 66, 68 of the body 20. The guide surfaces 138’, 142’ are configured to engage the guide surfaces 66’, 68’ of the respective rails 66, 68. Additionally, the first and second projections 74, 78 of the lid 18 are received in the first and second channels 112, 116 of the first slider portion 100, respectively. The first end of the second slider portion 104 at least partially overlaps the first end of the first slider portion 100. Therefore, the first slider portion 100 and the second slider portion 104 are each configured to cover the opening 22 when the slider 26 is in the closed position. Moreover, when first and second portions 100, 104 are coupled, the seal 154 is positioned between the inner surface of the intermediate wall 50 to enable the slider 26 to create a seal with the lid 18. Similarly, each the first slider portion 100 and the second slider portion 104 is configured to cover the apertures 80 in the open position and be spaced apart from the apertures 80 in the open position. Also, the second slider portion 104 is configured to at least partially overlap the recess 84 in the inner surface of the intermediate wall 50 when in the open position. Thus, air can be vented between an interior of the drink container 14 and an exterior of the drink container 14 and lid 18 via the recess 84 in the inner surface of the intermediate wall 50, the apertures 80 through the intermediate wall 50, and the channels 118 in the first side portion 100. Because the first and second slider portions 100, 104 are removably coupled to one another, the slider 26 can be removed for cleaning.

[0057] To couple the slider 26 to the lid 18, the second slider portion 104 is first coupled to the lid 18. That is, the second slider portion 104 is attached to the lid 18 by advancing the second slider portion 104 in the first direction X (e.g., from the second side towards the first side of the body 20, FIG. 6) with the hooks 138, 142 aligned with the gaps 70, 72, such that the post 130 is receivable by the slot 62 and the second slider portion 104 is positioned between the projections 82, 86. Then, the second slider portion 104 is advanced in a second direction X’ (e.g., generally parallel to the inner surface of the intermediate wall 50, FIG. 6), such the first and second hooks 138, 142 engage the first and second guide rails 66, 68 of the slot 62. The first slider portion 100 is then coupled to the second slider portion 104 by inserting the post 130 into the bore 120. In coupling the first slider portion 100 to the second slider portion 104, the first slider portion 100 is also positioned within the channel 58 and the projections 74, 78 are received within the respective channels 112, 116.

[0058] Moving the slider 26 from the open position to the closed position causes the slider 26 to create a friction or interference fit with the body 20 via engagement of the guide surfaces 138’, 142’ of the hooks 138, 142 with the guide surfaces 66’, 68’ of the guide rails 66, 68. That is, as the slider 26 moves towards the opening 22 from the open position to the closed position, the guide surfaces 138’, 142’ of the hooks 138, 142 slide along the guide surfaces 66’, 68’ from the second end towards the first end of the guide rails 66, 68, which causes the friction fit. Specifically, as the slider 26 moves towards the opening 22, the guide surfaces 138’, 142’ of the hooks 138, 142 slide from the respective second step 66b’, 68b’ to the first step 66a’, 68a’ along the inclined guide portion 66c’, 68c’, which causes the friction fit. Such movement also forces the seal 154 to seal about the opening 22 in the closed position. As the slider moves away from the opening 22 from the closed position to the open position, the guide surfaces 138’, 142’ of the hooks 138, 142 slide along the inclined guides surfaces 66’, 68’ from the first end towards the second end of the guide rails 66, 68, which releases the friction fit and releases the seal 154 from the inner surface of the lid 18. Specifically, as the slider 26 moves away from the opening 22, the guide surfaces 138’, 142’ of the hooks 138, 142 slide from the respective first step 66a’, 68a’ to the second step 66b’, 68b’ along the inclined guide portions 66c’, 68c’, which releases friction fit and the seal 154.

[0059] With renewed reference to FIGS. 5 and 6, the illustrated hanger 30 includes a loop 158 and a linkage 159 extending outwardly from the loop 158. The loop 158 defines an opening 160. The linkage 159 includes an aperture 164 extending therethrough. Moreover, the linkage 159 includes a pair of recesses 166 (only one of which is shown in FIG. 6) that are sized and shaped to receive the detent 56. There may be a single recess 166 or more than two recesses 166 in other embodiments. The loop 158 includes a lip 168 extending from an outer surface thereof. The hanger 30 is moveably (e.g., pivotably) coupled to the body 20, and specifically to the ears 46, 48 of the body 20. That is, the linkage 159 of the hanger 30 is positioned between the ears 46, 48. Accordingly, the aperture 164 of the hanger 30 aligns with apertures 172, 176 of the ears 46, 48 and a pin 180 is positioned within the aligned apertures 164, 172, 176 to couple the hanger 30 to the lid 18. The hanger 30 is moveable (e.g., pivotable) between the first position and the second position about the pin 180. The pin 180 defines an axis A (FIG. 5) that is generally transverse to an axis B (FIG. 5) along which the slider 26 moves relative to the lid 18.

[0060] In the illustrated embodiment, the hanger 30 includes a clip or carabiner 190 that defines a portion of the loop 158 and therefore the opening 160. As shown, the loop 158 includes a gap 194 on one side. The clip 190 has a first end and a second end opposite the first end. The second end of the clip 190 is pivotably coupled to the loop 158 on one side of the gap 194 and the first end of the clip 190 is a movable or free end that selectively engages the loop 158 on the other side of the gap 194. The clip 190 is movable between a closed position in which the gap 194 is closed and an open position in which the gap 194 is open. In the closed position, a recess 198 of the first end of the clip 190 receives the loop 158 such access to the opening 160 is inhibited. In the open position, the first end of the clip 190 is spaced apart from the loop 158 to permit access to the opening 160. The clip 190 is biased into the closed position by a biasing mechanism 202 (e.g., a spring) (FIG. 9). In other embodiments, the clip 190 may be omitted. In such case, the loop 158 would not include the gap 194.

[0061] As noted above, the hanger 30 is movable between the first position (FIGS. 1 and 5) and the second position (FIGS. 2-3). In the first position, the hanger 30 engages lid 18 to maintain the hanger 30 in the first position and inhibit the slider 26 from moving from its closed position and the open position. In the embodiment of FIGS. 1-11B, at least a portion of the slider 26 (e.g., the first slider portion 100) is received within the opening 160 in the loop 158, when the hanger 30 is in the first position. When the hanger 30 is in the first position, the recesses 166 receive the detent 56 to maintain the hanger 30 in the first position. The recesses 166 and the detent 56 define a detent mechanism that creates a friction fit engagement (or interference fit engagement) with the lid 18 to maintain the hanger 30 in the first position. In other embodiments, the detent 56 may be positioned on the hanger 30, while the recesses 166 may be positioned on the lid 18. Because the hanger 30 is maintained in the first position, the slider 26 is blocked by the hanger 30 from moving from the closed position to the open position. That is, the stop surfaces 108 of the slider 26 are positioned adjacent to or engage the linkage 159 to inhibit the slider 26 from moving from the open position to the closed position. Also, as shown, the hanger 30 is at least partially positioned within the recess 42 of the body 20 when in the first position. In the illustrated embodiment, the hanger 30 is positioned entirely within the recess 42 of the body 20 when in the first position. As such, the hanger 30 does not extend beyond the first side of the body 20 when in the first position. In the second position, the hanger 30 extends outwardly from the body 20 and is configured to couple the lid 18, and therefore the drink container 14, to the support 28.

In the third position, the hanger 30 may be positioned against an outer surface of the drink container 14. Claims

1. A lid for a drink container, the lid comprising:a body including a first side, a second side opposite the first side, and an opening formed through the first side and the second side, the second side configured to removably couple to the drink container, the opening configured to permit fluid to pass therethrough;a slider slidable relative to the body between a closed position, in which the opening is closed, and an open position, in which the opening is open; anda hanger movable relative to the body between a first position, in which the hanger engages the slider to inhibit the slider from moving from the closed position to the open position, and a second position, in which the hanger extends outwardly from the body and is configured to couple the lid to a support.

2. The lid of claim 1, wherein the body defines a recess in the first side, and wherein when the hanger is in the first position, the hanger is at least partially positioned within the recess.

3. The lid of claim 1, wherein the body includes a wall between the first side and the second side, wherein the slider includes a first slider portion positioned adjacent an outer surface of the wall and a second slider portion positioned adjacent an inner surface of the wall, and wherein the first slider portion and the second slider portion are coupled to one another through the wall.

4. The lid of claim 3, wherein the slider also includes a seal positioned between the inner surface of the wall and the second slider portion.

5. The lid of claim 3, wherein the wall includes a channel in which the first slider portion is positioned, and wherein the opening extends through the wall and is positioned within the channel.

6. The lid of claim 3, wherein the wall includes a projection extending therefrom, wherein the first slider portion includes a channel configured to receive the projection, and wherein the projection slides within the channel as the slider moves between the closed position and the open position.

7. The lid of claim 1, wherein the slider includes a first end and a second end opposite the first end, wherein in the closed position, the first end is positioned over the opening, and wherein in the open position, the first end is spaced apart from the opening.

8. The lid of claim 7, wherein the second end of the slider includes a stop surface, and wherein the hanger engages the stop surface to inhibit the slider from moving from the closed position to the open position when in the first position.

9. The lid of claim 7, wherein the lid includes a detent that is received within a recess of the hanger to maintain the hanger in the first position.

10. The lid of claim 1, wherein the hanger forms a loop defining a hanger opening, and wherein when the hanger is in the first position, a portion of the slider is received in the hanger opening.

11. The lid of claim 10, wherein the hanger includes a carabiner.

12. The lid of claim 1, wherein the hanger is pivotable between the first position and the second position.

13. A lid for a drink container, the lid comprising:a body including a first side, a second side opposite the first side, and a lid opening formed through the first side and the second side, the second side configured to removably couple to the drink container, the lid opening configured to permit fluid to pass therethrough;a slider slidable relative to the body between a closed position, in which the lid opening is closed, and an open position, in which the lid opening is open; anda hanger forming a loop that defines a hanger opening, the hanger being movable relative to the body between a first position, in which the hanger opening receives a portion of the slider, and a second position, in which the hanger extends outwardly from the body and is configured to couple the lid to a support.

14. The lid of claim 13, wherein the body defines a recess in the first side, and wherein when the hanger is in the first position, the hanger is at least partially positioned within the recess.

15. The lid of claim 13, wherein the body includes a wall between the first side and the second side, wherein the slider includes a first slider portion positioned adjacent an outer surface of the wall and a second slider portion positioned adjacent an inner surface of the wall, and wherein the first slider portion and the second slider portion are coupled to one another through the wall.

16. The lid of claim 15, wherein the slider also includes a seal positioned between the inner surface of the wall and the second slider portion.

17. The lid of claim 13, wherein the slider includes a stop surface, and wherein the hanger engages the stop surface to inhibit movement of the slider from the closed position to the open position when in the first position.

18. A drink assembly comprising:a drink container including a closed end and an open end opposite the closed end; and a lid includinga body having a first side, a second side opposite the first side and coupled to the open end of the drink container, and an opening formed through the first side and the second side, the opening configured to permit fluid to pass therethrough,a slider slidable relative to the body between a closed position, in which the opening is closed, and an open position, in which the opening is open, anda hanger movable relative to the body between a first position, in which the hanger engages the slider to inhibit the slider from moving from the closed position to the open position, and a second position, in which the hanger extends outwardly from the body and is configured to couple the drink container to a support.

19. The drink assembly of claim 18, wherein the body includes a wall between the first side and the second side, wherein the slider includes a first slider portion positioned adjacent an outer surface of the wall, a second slider portion positioned adjacent an inner surface of the wall, and a seal positioned between the inner surface of the wall and the second slider portion, and wherein the first slider portion and the second slider portion are coupled to one another through the wall.

20. The drink assembly of claim 18, wherein the hanger forms a loop defining a hanger opening, and wherein when the hanger is in the first position, a portion of the slider is received in the hanger opening.
