Description

CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

[0001] Applicant hereby claims the priority benefits under the provisions of 35 U.S.C. § 119, basing said claim of priority on related U.S. Provisional Application No. 63 / 702,835 filed Oct. 3, 2024, which is incorporated in its entirety herein by reference.FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0002] The present invention relates to an adjustable bow sight for a compound bow and the like.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0003] Bow sights can be used with bows to help with the accuracy of shots at varying distances. The sights can be adjusted to account for distance to the target, wind, angles, etc. Bow sights typically use a member to move a scope with respect to the peep on the bow for various distances. Tape rings can be used with distance markers. However, looking at the tape rings while also looking through a scope can be difficult and distracting. Thus, an archery sight that has dual tape rings and inner and outer distance indicators would be advantages.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0004] One aspect of the present invention is an archery sight. The archery sight has a mounting member. A dial member is coupled to the mounting member. The dial member has a central opening and a rotatable dial. A rail is movably coupled to the dial member. The archery sight also includes a scope with an inner opening and at least one sight pin. The dial member includes dual tape rings, one on the middle and one on the outside of the dial member.

[0005] These and other advantages of the invention will be further understood and appreciated by those skilled in the art by reference to the following written description, claims, and dependent drawings.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0025] For purposes of description herein, the terms “outer,”“inner,”“upper,”“lower,”“right,”“left,”“rear,”“front,”“vertical,”“horizontal,” and derivatives thereof shall relate to the invention as oriented in the attached drawings. However, it is to be understood that the invention may assume various alternative orientations and step sequences, except where expressly specified to the contrary. It is also to be understood that the specific devices and processes illustrated in the attached drawings, and described in the following specification, are simply exemplary embodiments of the inventive concepts defined in the appended claims. Hence, specific dimensions and other physical characteristics relating to the embodiments disclosed herein are not to be considered as limiting, unless the claims expressly state otherwise.

[0026] The reference numeral 2 as shown in FIG. 1 is for an archery sight that can be coupled to an archery bow. The archery sight 2 includes a mounting member 10 that couples to an archery bow mounting bracket 4. The mounting member 10 illustrated in FIG. 2 is a dove tail member. However, any number of different mounting bracket members 10 can be used, including, but not limited to, riser mounts, picatinny frames, etc.

[0027] The mounting member 10 includes a dial opening. The dial opening can be formed in the mounting member 10 or can be a separate part coupled to the mounting member 10. The dial assembly 20 is received in the mounting member 10. The dial assembly 20 is illustrated as being suspended in the mounting member 10.

[0028] The dial assembly 20 is positioned within a suspension system that allows for some tolerance should the dial assembly 20 be jarred. This provides a limited shock absorbing feature to the dial assembly 20. There is forgiveness in the glide rings that allow for the dial and gear fitment. The suspension glide rings eliminate metal to metal contact for smooth operation and noise dampening features.

[0029] The assembly includes a split body 400 that is clamped to the rail 30. A clamping lever 21 compresses the spilt body 400 to the rail 30. The clamping lever 21 can have multiple positions to providing various limits to the adjustability of the dial assembly 20 with respect to the rail 30. This allows the archer to set their “tension” for the dial movement amongst the rack and pinion. In the illustrated embodiment, the clamping lever 21 can travel 90° from a fully clamped position to a wide open position.

[0030] Multiple distance indicators 120 may be used and may be locked using one locking point 300. For example at least three distance indicators 120 can be used on each tape ring 22, thus having at least six distance indicators 120 on the assembly 2. The sight distance indicators 120 are stamped metal rings with arrows 121. The sight distance indicators 120 are clamped into a locked position via a single clamp 300. In the illustrated embodiment the clamp 300 is a machine screw.

[0031] The dial assembly 20 includes a threaded surface 130 on the outer dial member 20A that couples with a threaded surface 132 on the inner dial member 134. The tape rings 22 and the distance indicators 120 are sandwiched in between the outer dial member 20A and the inner dial member 134. The tape rings 22 can be marked with distances.

[0032] The archery sight 2 includes an rail 30. The rail 30 is positioned at a non-perpendicular angle with respect to the mounting member 10. This angle can be in the range of 5° to 40°. The illustrated embodiments show the angle at about 20°. The angled rail 30 allows the archery sight 2 to be calibrated for longer distances than a rail that is perpendicular to the mounting member 10. When the dial 20 is rotated, the scope housing 50 moves both vertically and laterally because of the angle of the rail 30. When the rail 30 is fully raised, the scope housing 50 will be in its furthest lateral position from the peep on a bow. This is typically where the sight pin 60, 200 is sighted in for a short distance. As the rail 30 is lowered transversely by rotation of the dial 20, the scope housing 50 and sight pin 60, 200 are moved laterally closer to the peep. This closer distance of the scope housing 50 and sight pin 60, 200 to the peep on the bow increases the launch angle of the projectile relative to a scope housing that is coupled to a rail that is perpendicular to the mounting member as the scope housing never moves laterally closer to the peep.

[0033] The scope housing 50 includes a central opening. In FIG. 1, sight pin 60 is coupled to the scope housing 50. The sight pin 60 can include one or more distance markers 62. In the illustrated embodiment of FIG. 1, the sight pin 60 is coupled to the bottom of the central opening. However, a sight pin 200 can be positioned on a side of the scope housing 50A and more than one sight pin 200 can be used as illustrated in FIG. 19. A level 40 can be positioned on the top of the central opening in scope housing 50. The positioning of the level 40 permits the user to see the level while looking through the central opening of the scope housing 50.

[0034] A fiber member is coupled to an opening in the top of the scope housing 50. A fiber member cover 100 may be positioned over the fiber member. A fiber cap 102 is slidably coupled to openings 104 on the top of the scope housing 50. The fiber cap 102 may be moved to adjust the exposure of the fiber member to light thereby regulating the amount of light passing through the fiber member through fiber cables positioned within the scope housing 50 to the distance markers 62 on sight pin 60, 200. The positioning of the fiber member on top of the scope housing 50 permits increased exposure of the fiber member to natural light compared to it being positioned on other portions of the scope housing 50. Optic lights can be used with the scope housing 50.

[0035] The archery sight 2 has multiple axes of adjustment. The first axis of adjustment is done by the adjustment of fasteners 500, as shown in FIG. 1, that allows the scope housing 50 and rail 30 to be adjusted with respect to the mounting member 10. The second axis of adjustment is done via fasteners 502 on the windage bracket 504. The second axis adjustment allows the scope housing 50 to be adjusted with respect to the rail. The third axis of adjustment allows the scope housing 50 to be adjusted up to 4° each way with respect to the remainder of the archery sight 2. A fastener 506 can be adjusted to permit the rotation of the scope housing 50 at pivot section 508. The frame member 10 can also be adjusted with respect to the archery bow.

[0036] The micro horizontal and vertical windage adjustments are done with dials 70, 72. Fasteners may be used to lock in the windage adjustment features and / or to do significant adjustments.

[0037] The components of the archery sight 2 can have a ceramic-based coating to extend the life of the components. In addition, a laser engraved line can be positioned on the top of the dial assembly to act as another yardage indicator.
