[0006] The disclosure relates to fence post devices and more particularly pertains to a new fence post device for protecting a horse from being injured when the horse strikes a fence during a horse race. The device includes a plurality of bases that are each buried in the ground adjacent to a horse race track. The device includes a plurality of retention flaps that are each hingedly coupled to a respective base and a plurality of releasing flaps which are each hingedly coupled to a respective base. The device includes a plurality of fence posts which can each be mated to a respective base. Each of the retention flaps retains a respective fence post in the respective base and each of the releasing flaps urges the respective fence post to separate from the respective base when the fence post is exposed to a lateral force to protect a horse from being injured when the horse strikes the fence post during a horse race.(2) Description of Related Art including information disclosed under 37 CFR 1.97 and 1.98.
[0007] The prior art relates to fence post devices including: a variety of breakaway fence devices that each at least includes a plurality of fence posts and a plurality of fence railings and a plurality of breakaway fasteners which connect the fence posts and the fence rails which separate when a horse strikes the fence railings during a horse race to protect the horse from being injured; a breakaway fence post device that includes a fence post which has breakaway cuts such that the fence post breaks at the breakaway cuts when the fence post is struck by a horse during a horse race to protect the horse from being injured. In no instance does the prior art disclose a breakaway fence post device that includes a plurality of bases that are each buried next to a horse race track and a plurality of retention flaps hingedly coupled to a respective base and a plurality of releasing flaps hingedly coupled to a respective base and a plurality of fence posts which is each releasably mated to a respective base. The plurality of retention flaps retains a respective fence post in the respective base and the plurality of releasing flaps lifts the respective fence post upwardly from the respective base when the respective fence post is exposed to a lateral force to protect a horse from being injured during a horse race when the horse strikes the respective fence post.BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0008] An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a plurality of bases each buried in the ground adjacent to a horse race track. A plurality of retention flaps is hingedly coupled to a respective base. Each retention flap is biased into a securing position and each retention flap is urgeable into a releasing position. A plurality of releasing flaps is each hingedly coupled to a respective base. Each of releasing flap is biased into a lifting position and each releasing flap is urgeable into a stored position. A plurality of fence posts is releasably insertable into a respective base. Each retention flap retains the respective fence post in the respective base. Each releasing flap urges the fence post to lift outwardly from the respective base when the fence post is exposed to a lateral force to protect a horse from being injured when the horse strikes a fence post.

[0020] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 7 thereof, a new fence post device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.
[0021] As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 7, the breakaway fence post device 10 generally comprises a plurality of bases 12 which is each buried in ground 14 adjacent to a horse race track 16. Each base 12 of the plurality of bases 12 has a well 18 extending into a respective base 12 of the plurality of bases 12. Each base 12 of the plurality of bases 12 has a top end 20 and an outer wall 22; the outer wall 22 of each base 12 of the plurality of bases 12 is submerged in the ground 14 having the top end 20 of each base 12 of the plurality of bases 12 being exposed. The outer wall 22 of each base 12 of the plurality of bases 12 has a plurality of intersecting sides 24 and the plurality of intersecting sides 24 of the outer wall 22 of a respective base 12 is perpendicularly oriented with each other such that each base 12 of the plurality of bases 12 has a rectangular shape. Each base 12 of the plurality of bases 12 is comprised of a rigid material, including but not being limited concrete, such that each base 12 of the plurality of bases 12 can resist being deformed by vertical forces or lateral forces.
[0022] The well 18 associated with a respective base 12 extends into the top end 20 of the respective base 12. The well 18 associated with the respective base 12 has a bounding surface 26 and the bounding surface 26 of the well 18 associated with the respective base 12 has a plurality of intersecting sides 28 of the well 18. The plurality of intersecting sides 28 of the well 18 associated with the respective base 12 is oriented parallel with a respective one of the plurality of intersecting sides 24 of the outer wall 22 of the respective base 12 such that the well 18 in each base 12 of the plurality of bases 12 has a rectangular shape. Additionally, the well 18 in each base 12 of the plurality of bases 12 has a lower bounding surface 30 and the lower bounding surface 30 of the well 18 in a respective base 12 lying on a plane which is oriented parallel to the top end 20 of the respective base 12.
[0023] A plurality of retention flaps 32 is each hingedly coupled to a respective base 12. Each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 associated with the respective base 12 is biased in a securing position. Furthermore, each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 associated with the respective base 12 extends into the well 18 in the respective base 12 when the plurality of retention flaps 32 associated with the respective base 12 are in the securing position. Each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 associated with the respective base 12 is urgeable into a releasing position. Furthermore, each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 associated with the respective base 12 extends upwardly from the well 18 in the respective base 12 when the plurality of retention flaps 32 associated with the respective base 12 are urged into the releasing position.
[0024] Each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 has a coupled edge 34 and a free edge 36. The coupled edge 34 of each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 associated with the respective base 12 is hingedly coupled to a respective one of the plurality of intersecting sides 28 of the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12. Additionally, the coupled edge 34 of each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 associated with the respective base 12 is aligned with the top end 20 of the respective base 12. The coupled edge 34 of each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 associated with the respective base 12 extends along a partial length of the respective intersecting side 28 of the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12. Each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 associated with the respective base 12 is centrally located along the respective intersecting side 28 of the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12. Furthermore, each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 associated with the respective base 12 lies on a plane that is aligned with the top end 20 of the respective base 12 when the plurality of retention flaps 32 associated with the respective base 12 are in the securing position.
[0025] Each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 includes a hinge 38 that is hingedly coupled to the respective intersecting side 28 of the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12. The hinge 38 associated with each retention flap 32 is rotatable in a first direction or a second direction. Additionally, the hinge 38 associated with each retention flap 32 is biased to rotate in the first direction to position each retention flap 32 in a home position and the hinge 38 associated with each retention flap 32 resists being rotated in the second direction. The hinge 38 associated with each retention flap 32 may be rotatable in the second direction when the hinge 38 associated with each retention flap 32 is exposed to a rotational torque of at least 65.0 Nm.
[0026] Each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 has a top surface 39 which is oriented to lie on a plane that is coplanar with the top end 20 of the respective base 12 when each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 is positioned in the home position. The hinge 38 associated with each retention flap 32 is rotatable in the first direction until each retention flap 32 rests against the respective intersecting side 28 of the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12. Additionally, the hinge 38 associated with each retention flap 32 is biased to rotate in the second direction to return the respective retention flap 32 to the home position when respective retention flap 32 is positioned against the respective intersecting side 28 of the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12. Furthermore, the hinge 38 associated with each retention flap 32 resists being rotated in the second direction once the respective retention flap 32 is returned to the home position.
[0027] A plurality of releasing flaps 40 is provided and each of a pair of the plurality of releasing flaps 40 is hingedly coupled to a respective base 12. Each releasing flap 40 of the pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 is positioned in the well 18 in the respective base 12. Additionally, each releasing flap 40 of the pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 is biased into a lifting position having each releasing flap 40 of the pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 extending upwardly out of the well 18 in the respective base 12. Conversely, each releasing flap 40 of the pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 is urgeable into a stored position having each releasing flap 40 of the pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 lying flat in the well 18 in the respective base 12.
[0028] Each releasing flap 40 of the plurality of releasing flaps 40 has a rear edge 42 and a front edge 44 and a first lateral edge 46 and a second lateral edge 48. The front edge 44 of each releasing flap 40 of the pair of releasing flaps 40 has a medial section 50 extending between a first section 52 and a second section 54. The first section 52 of the front edge 44 of a respective releasing flap 40 is spaced from and is oriented parallel to the second section 54 of the front edge 44 of the respective releasing flap 40. Furthermore, the second section 54 of the front edge 44 of the respective releasing flap 40 is spaced further from the rear edge 42 of the respective releasing flap 40 than the first section 52 of the front edge 44 of the respective releasing flap 40. The first lateral edge 46 of the respective releasing flap 40 angles inwardly between the rear edge 42 of the respective releasing flap 40 and the first section 52 of the front edge 44 of the respective releasing flap 40. Additionally, the second lateral edge 48 of the respective releasing flap 40 angles inwardly between the rear edge 42 of the respective releasing flap 40 and the second section54 of the front edge 44 of the respective releasing flap 40.
[0029] The rear edge 42 of each releasing flap 40 of the pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 is hingedly coupled to a respective intersecting side 28 of the bounding surface 26 of the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12 at a point that is located adjacent to the lower bounding surface 30 of the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12. The medial section 50 of the front edge 44 of the respective releasing flap 40 is oriented to angle toward the second lateral edge 48 of the respective releasing flap 40. The first section 52 of the front edge 44 of a respective releasing flap 40 of pair of the releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 is aligned with the second section 54 of the front edge 44 of a respective releasing flap 40 of the pair of the releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 when the pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 are in the stored position. Additionally, the medial section 50 of the front edge 44 of a respective releasing flap 40 of the pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 intersects the medial section 50 of the front edge 44 of a respective releasing flap 40 of the pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 when the pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 are in the stored position. Each releasing flap 40 of the pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 angles upwardly out of the well 18 in the top end 20 in the respective base 12 when the pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 are in the lifting position.
[0030] A plurality of biasing members 56 is provided and each releasing flap 40 of the pair of releasing flaps 40 has a bottom surface 58. Each of a pair of the plurality of biasing members 56 is coupled between the lower bounding surface 30 of the well 18 in the top end 20 of a respective base 12 and the bottom surface 58 of a respective pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12. Additionally, each biasing member 56 of the pair of biasing members 56 associated with the respective base 12 biases the respective releasing flap 40 associated with the respective base 12 into the lifting position. Each biasing member 56 of the plurality of biasing members 56 has a spring force which is less than the rotational torque that is required to rotate the hinge 38 associated with each retention flap 32 of the pair of retention flaps 32 in the second direction.
[0031] A plurality of fence posts 60 is provided and a respective fence post 60 of the plurality of fence posts 60 is releasably insertable into the well 18 in a respective base 12 of the plurality of bases 12. Each releasing flap 40 of the plurality of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 is urged into the stored position when the respective fence post 60 is releasably inserted into the well 18 in the respective base 12. Each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 associated with the respective base 12 is positioned in the securing position to retain the respective fence post 60 in the well 18 in the respective base 12. Conversely, each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 associated with the respective base 12 is urged into the releasing position when the respective fence post 60 which is inserted in the well 18 in the respective base 12 is exposed to a lateral force.
[0032] Each releasing flap 40 of the pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 urges the fence post 60 which is inserted in the well 18 in the respective base 12 to lift outwardly from the well 18 in the respective base 12 when the fence post 60 which is inserted into the well 18 in the respective base 12 is exposed to the lateral force. Furthermore, the fence post 60 which is inserted into the well 18 in the respective base 12 breaks free of the respective base 12 when the fence post 60 which is inserted into the well 18 in the respective base 12 is struck by a horse 62 to inhibit the horse 62 or a rider 64 of the horse 62 from being injured.
[0033] Each fence post 60 of the plurality of fence posts 60 has a lower end 66 and an upper end 68. Additionally, each fence post 60 of the plurality of fence posts 60 has a bend 70 located closer to the upper end 68 than the lower end 66. The bend 70 in a respective fence post 60 defines a lower portion 72 of the respective fence post 60 oriented at an angle with an upper portion 74 of the respective fence post 60. Additionally, the lower portion 72 of the respective fence post 60 is associated with the lower end 66 of the respective fence post 60 and the upper portion 74 of the respective fence post 60 is associated with the top end 20 of the respective fence post 60.
[0034] A plurality of panels 76 is provided and each panel 76 of the plurality of panels 76 has an upper surface 78 and a lower surface 80 and a perimeter edge 82 extending between the upper surface 78 and the lower surface 80. The perimeter edge 82 of each panel 76 of the plurality of panels 76 has a plurality of intersecting sides 84 of the perimeter edge 82. Furthermore, the lower end 66 of a respective fence post 60 is coupled to the upper surface 78 of a respective panel 76. The lower end 66 of the respective fence post 60 is centrally located on the upper surface 78 of the respective panel 76.
[0035] Each panel 76 of the plurality of panels 76 associated with a respective fence post 60 is insertable into the well 18 in the top end 20 of a respective base 12 when the respective fence post 60 is removably inserted into the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12. Each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 is urged to rest against the respective intersecting side 28 of the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12 when a respective panel 76 is inserted into the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12. The lower surface 80 of the respective panel 76 urges the pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 into the stored position when the respective panel 76 is inserted into the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12. Furthermore, each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 returns to the home position when the respective panel 76 is fully seated into the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12.
[0036] A plurality of fence rails 86 is provided and each fence rail 82 of the plurality of fence rails 86 is attached to a respective pair of the plurality of fence posts 60. Furthermore, each fence of the plurality of fence rails 86 inhibits the horse 62 from leaving the horse race track 16. Each fence rail 82 of the plurality of fence rails 86 has a rear surface 88 and the rear surface 88 of each fence rail 82 of the plurality of fence rails 86 is coupled to the upper end 68 of the respective pair of the fence posts 60.
[0037] A plurality of tabs 90 is provided and each tab 90 of the plurality of tabs 90 is coupled to a respective intersecting side of the perimeter edge 82 of a respective panel 76. Each tab 90 of the plurality of tabs 90 is perpendicular to the respective intersecting side of the perimeter edge 82 of the respective panel 76. Additionally, each tab 90 of the plurality of tabs 90 extends along a partial length of the respective intersecting side of the perimeter edge 82 of the respective panel 76. Each retention flap 32 of the plurality of retention flaps 32 associated with a respective base 12 lies on top of a respective tab on the respective panel 76 when the respective panel 76 is fully seated in the well 18 in the top end 20 of a respective base 12 for retaining the respective panel 76 in the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12.

Furthermore, the pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 is biased into the lifting position when the respective retention flap 32 is urged into the releasing position. The pair of releasing flaps 40 associated with the respective base 12 lifts the respective panel 76 upwardly from the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12 when the respective retention flap 32 is urged into the releasing position. Furthermore, the fence post 60 which is coupled to the respective panel 76 is dislodged from the respective base 12 when the horse 62 strikes the fence rail 82 that is coupled to the fence post 60 which is coupled to the respective panel 76 to inhibit the horse 62 and the rider 64 of the horse 62 from being injured.
[0039] In use, the panel 76 attached to each fence post 60 that is attached to the fence rail 82 which is struck by the horse 62 tilts in the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12. Furthermore, a respective retention flap 32 associated with the respective base 12 is urged into the releasing position and the pair of releasing flaps 40 in the respective base 12 is biased into the lifting position. Consequently, the panel 76 attached to each fence post 60 that is attached to the fence rail 82 which is struck by the horse 62 is dislodged from the respective base 12. Furthermore, the fence rail 82 falls away to inhibit the horse 62 or the rider 64 of the horse 62 from being injured when the horse 62 strikes the fence rail 82 during the horse 62 race. The panel 76 on each fence post 60 that was dislodged from the respective base 12 is re-inserted into the well 18 in the top end 20 of the respective base 12 to reconnect each fence post 60 to the respective base 12 to reassemble the fence rail 82.

Claims
1. A breakaway fence post device for releasing a fence post when a horse strikes against a fence during a horse race, said device comprising:a plurality of bases each being configured to be buried in the ground adjacent to a horse race track, each base of said plurality of bases having a well extending into a respective base of said plurality of bases;a plurality of retention flaps, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps being hingedly coupled to a respective base, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base being biased into a securing position, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base extending into said well in said respective base when said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base are in said securing position, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base being urgeable into a releasing position, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base extending upwardly from said well in said respective base when said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base are urged into said releasing position;a plurality of releasing flaps, each of a pair of said plurality of releasing flaps being hingedly coupled to a respective base, each of releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base being positioned in said well in said respective base, each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base being biased into a lifting position, each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base extending upwardly out of said well in said respective base when each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base are in said lifting position, each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base being urgeable into a stored position, each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base lying flat in said well in said respective base when each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base is in said stored position;a plurality of fence posts, a respective fence post of said plurality of fence posts being releasably insertable into said well in a respective base of said plurality of bases, each releasing flap of said plurality of releasing flap associated with said respective base being urged into said stored position when said respective fence post is releasably inserted into said well in said respective base, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base being positioned in said securing position to retain said respective fence post in said well in said respective base when said respective fence post is releasably inserted into said well in said respective base, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base being urged into said releasing position when said respective fence post which is inserted in said well in said respective base is exposed to a lateral force, each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base urging said fence post which is inserted in said well in said respective base to lift outwardly from said well in said respective base when said fence post which is inserted into said well in said respective base is exposed to said lateral force wherein said fence post which is inserted into said well in said respective base is configured to break free of said respective base when said fence post which is inserted into said well in said respective base is struck by the horse to inhibit the horse from being injured; anda plurality of fence rails, each fence rail of said plurality of fence rails being attached to a respective pair of said plurality of fence posts wherein each fence of said plurality of fence rails is configured to inhibit the horse from leaving the horse race track.

The breakaway fence post device according to claim 1, further comprising:each base of said plurality of bases having an upper end and an outer wall wherein said outer wall of each base of said plurality of bases is configured to be submerged in the ground having said upper end of each base of said plurality of bases being exposed;said outer wall of each base of said plurality of bases having a plurality of intersecting sides;said plurality of intersecting sides of said outer wall of a respective base being perpendicularly oriented with each other such that each base of said plurality of bases has a rectangular shape; andsaid well associated with a respective base extending into said upper end of said respective base.

The breakaway fence post device according to claim 2, further comprising:said well associated with said respective base having a bounding surface;said bounding surface of said well associated with said respective base having a plurality of intersecting sides of said well;said plurality of intersecting sides of said well associated with said respective base being oriented parallel with a respective one of said plurality of intersecting sides of said outer wall of said respective base such that said well in each base of said plurality of bases has a rectangular shape;said well in each base of said plurality of bases having a lower bounding surface; andsaid lower bounding surface of said well in a respective base lying on a plane being oriented parallel to said upper end of said respective base.

The breakaway fence post device according to claim 3, further comprising:each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps having a coupled edge and a free edge;said coupled edge of each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base being hingedly coupled to a respective one of said plurality of intersecting sides of said well in said upper end of said respective base;said coupled edge of each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base being aligned with said upper end of said respective base;said coupled edge of each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base extending along a partial length of said respective intersecting side of said well in said upper end of said respective base;each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base being centrally located along said respective intersecting side of said well in said upper end of said respective base; andeach retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base lying on a plane being aligned with said upper end of said respective base when said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base are in said securing position.

The breakaway fence post device according to claim 3, further comprising:each releasing flap of said plurality of releasing flaps having a rear edge and a front edge and a first lateral edge and a second lateral edge;said front edge of each releasing flap of said plurality of releasing flaps having a medial section extending between a first section and a second section;said first section of said front edge of a respective releasing flap being spaced from and being oriented parallel to said second section of said front edge of said respective releasing flap;said second section of said front edge of said respective releasing flap being spaced further from said rear edge of said respective releasing flap than said first section of said front edge of said respective releasing flap; andsaid rear edge of each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base being hingedly coupled to a respective intersecting side of said bounding surface of said well in said top end of said respective base at a point being located adjacent to said lower bounding surface of said well in said upper end of said respective base.

The breakaway fence post device according to claim 5, further comprising:said first lateral edge of said respective releasing flap angling inwardly between said rear edge of said respective releasing flap and said first section of said front edge of said respective releasing flap;said second lateral edge of said respective releasing flap angling inwardly between said rear edge of said respective releasing flap and said second section of said front edge of said respective releasing flap; andsaid medial section of said front edge of said respective releasing flap being oriented to angle toward said second lateral edge of said respective releasing flap.

The breakaway fence post device according to claim 5, further comprising said first section of said front edge of a respective releasing flap of pair of said releasing flaps associated with said respective base being aligned with said second section of said front edge of a respective releasing flap of said pair of said releasing flaps associated with said respective base when said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base are in said stored position.

The breakaway fence post device according to claim 5, further comprising said medial section of said front edge of a respective releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base intersecting said medial section of said front edge of a respective releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base when said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base are in said stored position.
9. The breakaway fence post device according to claim 5, further comprising each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base angling upwardly out of said well in said upper end in said respective base when said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base are in said lifting position.
10. The breakaway fence post device according to claim 3, further comprising:a plurality of biasing members;each releasing flap of said plurality of releasing flaps having a bottom surface;each of a pair of said plurality of biasing members being coupled between said lower bounding surface of said well in said upper end of a respective base and said bottom surface of a respective pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base; andeach biasing member of said pair of biasing members associated with said respective base biasing said respective releasing flap associated with said respective base into said lifting position.
11. The breakaway fence post device according to claim 1, further comprising:each fence post of said plurality of fence posts having a lower end and an upper end;each fence post of said plurality of fence posts having a bend located closer to said upper end than said lower end;said bend in a respective fence post defining a lower portion of said respective fence post oriented at an angle with an upper portion of said respective fence post;said lower portion of said respective fence post being associated with said lower end of said respective fence post; andsaid upper portion of said respective fence post being associated with said upper end of said respective fence post.
12. The breakaway fence post device according to claim 11, further comprising:a plurality of panels;each panel of said plurality of panels having an upper surface and a lower surface and a perimeter edge extending between said upper surface and said lower surface;said perimeter edge of each panel of said plurality of panels having a plurality of intersecting sides of said perimeter edge;said lower end of a respective fence post being coupled to said upper surface of a respective panel; andsaid lower end of said respective fence post being centrally located on said upper surface of said respective panel.
13. The breakaway fence post device according to claim 12, further comprising:each panel of said plurality of panels associated with a respective fence post being insertable into said well in said upper end of a respective base when said respective fence post is removably inserted into said well in said upper end of said respective base; andsaid lower surface of said respective panel urging said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base into said stored position when said respective panel is inserted into said well in said upper end of said respective base.
14. The breakaway fence post device according to claim 12, further comprising:a plurality of tabs;each tab of said plurality of tabs being coupled to a respective intersecting side of said perimeter edge of a respective panel;each tab of said plurality of tabs being perpendicular to said respective intersecting side of said perimeter edge of said respective panel; andeach tab of said plurality of tabs extending along a partial length of said respective intersecting side of said perimeter edge of said respective panel.
15. The breakaway fence post device according to claim 14, further comprising each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with a respective base lying on top of a respective tab on said respective panel when said respective panel is inserted into said well in said top end of a respective base for retaining said respective panel in said well in said top end of said respective base.
16. The breakaway fence post device according to claim 13, further comprising a respective retention flap being urged into said releasing position when said respective panel is urged to tilt in said well in said top end of said respective base when said fence post that is coupled to said respective panel is exposed to said lateral force.
17. The breakaway fence post device according to claim 16, further comprising:said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base being biased into said lifting position when said respective retention flap is urged into said releasing position; andsaid pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base lifting said respective panel upwardly from said well in said top end of said respective base when said respective retention flap is urged into said releasing position wherein said fence post which is coupled to said respective panel is configured to be dislodged from said respective base when the horse strikes said fence rail that is coupled to said fence post which is coupled to said respective panel to inhibit the horse from being injured.
18. A breakaway fence post device for releasing a fence post when a horse strikes against a fence during a horse race, said device comprising:a plurality of bases each being configured to be buried in the ground adjacent to a horse race track, each base of said plurality of bases having a well extending into a respective base of said plurality of bases, each base of said plurality of bases having a top end and an outer wall wherein said outer wall of each base of said plurality of bases is configured to be submerged in the ground having said top end of each base of said plurality of bases being exposed, said outer wall of each base of said plurality of bases having a plurality of intersecting sides, said plurality of intersecting sides of said outer wall of a respective base being perpendicularly oriented with each other such that each base of said plurality of bases has a rectangular shape, said well associated with a respective base extending into said top end of said respective base, said well associated with said respective base having a bounding surface, said bounding surface of said well associated with said respective base having a plurality of intersecting sides of said well, said plurality of intersecting sides of said well associated with said respective base being oriented parallel with a respective one of said plurality of intersecting sides of said outer wall of said respective base such that said well in each base of said plurality of bases has a rectangular shape, said well in each base of said plurality of bases having a lower bounding surface, said lower bounding surface of said well in a respective base lying on a plane being oriented parallel to said top end of said respective base;a plurality of retention flaps, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps being hingedly coupled to a respective base, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base being biased in a securing position, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base extending into said well in said respective base when said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base are in said securing position, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base being urgeable into a releasing position, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base extending upwardly from said well in said respective base when said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base are urged into said releasing position, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps having a coupled edge and a free edge, said coupled edge of each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base being hingedly coupled to a respective one of said plurality of intersecting sides of said well in said top end of said respective base, said coupled edge of each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base being aligned with said top end of said respective base, said coupled edge of each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base extending along a partial length of said respective intersecting side of said well in said top end of said respective base, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base being centrally located along said respective intersecting side of said well in said top end of said respective base, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base lying on a plane being aligned with said top end of said respective base when said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base are in said securing position;a plurality of releasing flaps, each of a pair of said plurality of releasing flaps being hingedly coupled to a respective base, each of releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base being positioned in said well in said respective base, each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base being biased into a lifting position having each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base extending upwardly out of said well in said respective base, each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base being urgeable into a stored position having each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base lying flat in said well in said respective base, each releasing flap of said plurality of releasing flaps having a rear edge and a front edge and a first lateral edge and a second lateral edge, said front edge of each releasing flap of said plurality of releasing flaps having a medial section extending between a first section and a second section, said first section of said front edge of a respective releasing flap being spaced from and being oriented parallel to said second section of said front edge of said respective releasing flap, said second section of said front edge of said respective releasing flap being spaced further from said rear edge of said respective releasing flap than said first section of said front edge of said respective releasing flap, said first lateral edge of said respective releasing flap angling inwardly between said rear edge of said respective releasing flap and said first section of said front edge of said respective releasing flap, said second lateral edge of said respective releasing flap angling inwardly between said rear edge of said respective releasing flap and said second section of said front edge of said respective releasing flap, said rear edge of each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base being hingedly coupled to a respective intersecting side of said bounding surface of said well in said top end of said respective base at a point being located adjacent to said lower bounding surface of said well in said top end of said respective base, said medial section of said front edge of said respective releasing flap being oriented to angle toward said second lateral edge of said respective releasing flap, said first section of said front edge of a respective releasing flap of pair of said releasing flaps associated with said respective base abutting said second section of said front edge of a respective releasing flap of said pair of said releasing flaps associated with said respective base when said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base are in said stored position, said medial section of said front edge of a respective releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base intersecting said medial section of said front edge of a respective releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base when said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base are in said stored position, each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base angling upwardly out of said well in said top end in said respective base when said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base are in said lifting position;a plurality of biasing members, each releasing flap of said plurality of releasing flaps having a bottom surface, each of a pair of said plurality of biasing members being coupled between said lower bounding surface of said well in said top end of a respective base and said bottom surface of a respective pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base, each biasing member of said pair of biasing members associated with said respective base biasing said respective releasing flap associated with said respective base into said lifting position;a plurality of fence posts, a respective fence post of said plurality of fence posts being releasably insertable into said well in a respective base of said plurality of bases, each releasing flap of said plurality of releasing flap associated with said respective base being urged into said stored position when said respective fence post is releasably inserted into said well in said respective base, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base being positioned in said securing position to retain said respective fence post in said well in said respective base, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with said respective base being urged into said releasing position when said respective fence post which is inserted in said well in said respective base is exposed to a lateral force, each releasing flap of said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base urging said fence post which is inserted in said well in said respective base to lift outwardly from said well in said respective base when said fence post which is inserted into said well in said respective base is exposed to said lateral force wherein said fence post which is inserted into said well in said respective base is configured to break free of said respective base when said fence post which is inserted into said well in said respective base is struck by the horse to inhibit the horse from being injured, each fence post of said plurality of fence posts having a lower end and a upper end, each fence post of said plurality of fence posts having a bend located closer to said upper end than said lower end, said bend in a respective fence post defining a lower portion of said respective fence post oriented at an angle with a upper portion of said respective fence post, said lower portion of said respective fence post being associated with said lower end of said respective fence post, said upper portion of said respective fence post being associated with said upper end of said respective fence post;a plurality of panels, each panel of said plurality of panels having an upper surface and a lower surface and a perimeter edge extending between said upper surface and said lower surface, said perimeter edge of each panel of said plurality of panels having a plurality of intersecting sides of said perimeter edge, said lower end of a respective fence post being coupled to said upper surface of a respective panel, said lower end of said respective fence post being centrally located on said upper surface of said respective panel, each panel of said plurality of panels associated with a respective fence post being insertable into said well in said upper end of a respective base when said respective fence post is removably inserted into said well in said upper end of said respective base, said lower surface of said respective panel urging said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base into said stored position when said respective panel is inserted into said well in said upper end of said respective base;a plurality of fence rails, each fence rail of said plurality of fence rails being attached to a respective pair of said plurality of fence posts wherein each fence of said plurality of fence rails is configured to inhibit the horse from leaving the horse race track, each fence rail of said plurality of fence rails having a rear surface, said rear surface of each fence rail of said plurality of fence rails being coupled to said upper end of said respective pair of said fence posts; anda plurality of tabs, each tab of said plurality of tabs being coupled to a respective intersecting side of said perimeter edge of a respective panel, each tab of said plurality of tabs being perpendicular to said respective intersecting side of said perimeter edge of said respective panel, each tab of said plurality of tabs extending along a partial length of said respective intersecting side of said perimeter edge of said respective panel, each retention flap of said plurality of retention flaps associated with a respective base lying on top of a respective tab on said respective panel when said respective panel is inserted into said well in said top end of a respective base for retaining said respective panel in said well in said top end of said respective base, a respective retention flap being urged into said releasing position when said respective panel is urged to tilt in said well in said top end of said respective base when said fence post that is coupled to said respective panel is exposed to said lateral force, said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base being biased into said lifting position when said respective retention flap is urged into said releasing position, said pair of releasing flaps associated with said respective base lifting said respective panel upwardly from said well in said top end of said respective base when said respective retention flap is urged into said releasing position wherein said fence post which is coupled to said respective panel is configured to be dislodged from said respective base when the horse strikes said fence rail that is coupled to said fence post which is coupled to said respective panel to inhibit the horse from being injured.
