[0029] FIG. 5 is a front view of another exemplary embodiment of a multi-compartment bag according to aspects of the present disclosure.DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0030] Descriptions of technical features or aspects of an exemplary configuration of the disclosure should typically be considered as available and applicable to other similar features or aspects in another exemplary configuration of the disclosure. Accordingly, technical features described herein according to one exemplary configuration of the disclosure may be applicable to other exemplary configurations of the disclosure, and thus duplicative descriptions may be omitted herein.

[0031] Exemplary configurations of the disclosure will be described more fully below (e.g., with reference to the accompanying drawings). Like reference numerals may refer to like elements throughout the specification and drawings.

[0032] Referring particularly to FIGS. 1-2, a bag assembly, such as, for example, a multi-compartment bag 10 for storing and separating items therein is provided. The multi-compartment bag 10 may be configured to store a variety of items or objects, such as for example buttons, beads, jewelry components, or other suitable items that require isolated storage. The multi-compartment bag 10 may be fabricated from a flexible, transparent or semi-transparent, durable, and food-grade material including, but not limited to, polyethylene, polypropylene, cellophane, or silicone. Other suitable materials of construction are also contemplated.

[0033] The multi-compartment bag 10 generally includes a top end portion 12a and an opposing bottom end portion 12b, a front wall 14a (FIG. 1) and an opposing rear wall 14b (FIG. 2), a first lateral side 16a and an opposing second lateral side 16b, a divider or sealable closure 18 that separates the bag 10 into a first compartment 20 and a second compartment 22, and a flap 24 coupled to one or more of the front wall 14a, the rear wall 14b, the first lateral side 16a, or the second lateral side 16b, or the top or bottom of bag 10. The front and rear walls 14a, 14b are secured to one another by the first and second lateral sides 16a, 16b whereby an outer periphery of the multi-compartment bag 10 may assume a three-dimensional rectangular or square shape. In other aspects, the multi-compartment bag 10 may be substantially flat and / or assume other suitable shapes and configurations. The first and second lateral sides 16a, 16b may be flat sides extending a suitable distance between the front and rear walls 14a, 14b thereby giving the multi-compartment bag 10 depth. In other aspects, the first and second lateral sides 16a, 16b may be longitudinally extending heat seals that directly attach the front and rear walls 14a, 14b to one another.

[0034] The sealable closure 18 may extend horizontally between the top and bottom end portions 12a, 12b such that the first compartment 20 may be an upper compartment and the second compartment 22 may be a lower compartment, a different size from (e.g., smaller or larger) than the upper compartment 20. In other aspects, the sealable closure 18 may extend vertically and / or the upper and lower compartments 20, 22 may be the same size. The sealable closure 18 may be a frangible barrier, a hook and loop fastener, or an interlocking, multiple track, closable fastener having two longitudinally extending mating portions, i.e., a zip-top. The sealable closure 18 is configured to selectively open to allow for contents in the upper compartment 20 to pass into the lower compartment 22 or for the contents in the lower compartment 22 to pass into the upper compartment 20 to allow for mixing of the separated contents. The sealable closure 18 may operate as a divider inside bag 10 to separate the upper and lower portions thereof. To open the sealable closure 18, a user may pull on the front and rear walls 14a, 14b in opposing directions. In aspects, tabs (not explicitly shown) may be provided on outer surfaces of the respective front and rear walls 14a, 14b to facilitate opening of the sealable closure 18. In other aspects, additional sealable closures may be provided to create additional compartments within the multi-compartment bag 10.

[0035] With continued reference to FIGS. 1-2, the flap 24 may be fabricated from the same material as the remainder of the multi-compartment bag 10 and includes a first end portion 24a fixedly secured to the front wall 14a at a location adjacent the top end portion 12a or the bottom end portion 12b, and a free second end portion 24b unattached to the front wall 14a. In other aspects, the flap 24 may be coupled to the rear wall 14b or the first or second lateral sides 16a, 16b. The flap 24 may assume a rectangular shape, a square shape, or any other suitable shape. The first end portion 24a of the flap 24 may be a top edge of the flap 24 that is fixedly adhered to the front wall 24a using an adhesive, a heat seal, or other suitable permanent fastening engagement that prohibits detachment of the first end portion 24a of the flap from the front wall 14a without damaging or ripping the front wall 14a. The portion or end of flap 24 (e.g., the first end portion) coupled with the front wall 24a or rear wall 24b may be a reinforced portion of the flap (e.g., may be formed of a more durable material than other portions of the flap 24, or may be formed of multiple layers of the same material as other portions of the flap 24), such that the flap is highly unlikely to be separated from bag 10. This prevents loss of any labels or printed instructions included or printed on flap 24. The second end portion 24b of the flap 24 may be a bottom edge of the flap 24 and may be unattached to the front wall 14a or in other aspects may be detachably coupled to the front wall 14a via a releasable fastener (e.g., a hook and loop fastener). This allows free movement of the flap 24 away from the inner compartments of bag 10 to allow easier visualization of the inner compartments that might otherwise be covered or obscured by flap 24.

[0036] The flap 24 has a front surface 26, and an opposing rear surface 28 covering a portion of the front wall 14a (e.g., a central area of the front wall 14a) and separable from the portion of the front wall 14a. The flap 24 may define an interior pocket 29 between front and rear surfaces 26, 28 thereof configured to receive an information sheet. In aspects, the flap 24 may be configured to have a label (e.g., a sticker label) secured to the front or rear surfaces 26, 28 thereof. The label may contain information pertaining to the items contained within the upper and lower compartments 20, 22. The information on the label may be instructions, notes, etc. The flap 24 may also be configured to have instructions printed directly thereon, such as by a printer or handwriting. Since the label may obscure a view of the contents of the multi-compartment bag 10, a user may flip up the flap 24 to reveal the uncovered portion of the front wall 14a to enable a user to visually inspect the contents of the multi-compartment bag 10. Additionally, while the flap 24 may be transparent, it can also be non-transparent. For example, the flap 24 may be non-transparent (e.g., may be opaque), and thus may be employed to conceal or cover up items arranged within underlying compartments of the bag 10.

[0037] £ The multi-compartment bag 10 may further include a top fold 30 coupled to one of the front wall 14a or the rear wall 14b adjacent the top end portion 12a, and a bottom fold 32 coupled to the front wall 14a adjacent the bottom end portion 12b. The top fold 30 has a bottom end or edge 30a integrally formed with or otherwise coupled to the top end portion 12a, and a free top end or edge 30b. The top fold 30 is configured to selectively fold over a top opening defined in the top end portion 12a, and the bottom fold 32 is configured to selectively fold over a bottom opening defined in the bottom end portion 12b. Similarly, the bottom fold 32 has a top end or edge 32a integrally formed with or otherwise coupled to the bottom end portion 12b, and a free bottom end or edge 32b. The bottom fold 32 is configured to selectively fold over the bottom opening defined in the top end portion 12a, and the bottom fold 32 is configured to selectively fold over the bottom opening defined in the bottom end portion 12b.

[0038] The multi-compartment bag 10 includes a top exterior pocket 40 coupled to the rear wall 14b for receiving the top edge 30b of the top fold 30 (e.g., the top edge 30b is tucked into the exterior pocket 40) to secure the top fold 30 to the rear wall 14b to selectively hold the top fold 30 in a covered position over the top opening. A bottom exterior pocket 42 may be coupled to the rear wall 14b for receiving the bottom edge 32b of the bottom fold 32 (e.g., the bottom edge 32b is tucked into the exterior pocket 42) to selectively hold the bottom fold 32 to the rear wall 14b in a covered position over the bottom opening. In aspects, the multi-compartment bag 10 may further include a top sealable closure 44 positioned at the top end portion 12a within the upper compartment 20 and configured to selectively close the opening 34 in the top end portion 12a, and a bottom sealable closure 46 positioned at the bottom end portion 12b within the lower compartment 22 and configured to selectively close the opening in the bottom end portion 12b. In another aspects, a cinch (not explicitly shown) may be provided at each of the first and second end portions 12a, 12b for selectively cinching closed the openings in the top and bottom end portions 12a, 12b. In this way, the openings in the top and bottom end portions 12a, 12b may be closed with a primary fastening mechanism (e.g., the sealable closures 44, 46) and / or a redundant, secondary fastening mechanism (e.g., the top and bottom folds 30, 32 and / or the cinch). One or each of the exterior pockets 40 or 42 may be inverted around the top end portion 12a or the bottom end portion 12b, respectively, of bag 10, such that an inner space of the exterior pockets 40 or 42 conceal the top end portion 12a or the bottom end portion 12b, respectively, of bag 10 therein. In addition to closing the top end portion 12a or the bottom end portion 12b, respectively, of bag 10, this feature can also be employed to reinforce top end portion 12a or the bottom end portion 12b, respectively, of bag 10, such as to prevent breaking or leakage. Pockets 40 or 42 may extend entirely horizontally across bag 10. While the bottom closure 46 may be employed in bag 10, the bottom closure 46 may also be omitted, and the bottom end portion of bag 10 may be sealed (i.e., might not include a bottom-facing opening).

[0039] With reference to FIG. 3, the multi-compartment bag 10 may further include a pocket 50 positioned within the upper compartment 22 and extend horizontally between the first and second lateral sides 16a, 16. The pocket 50 is coupled to one of the front wall 14a or the rear wall 14b and is configured to store an information label or other suitable items. In aspects, the front and rear walls 14a, 14b may be double walled to reinforce their strength. Additional pockets similar to pocket 50 may selectively be arranged in any of the internal pockets of bag 10, or on exterior surfaces of bag 10, as desired.

[0040] With reference to FIG. 4, in another embodiment of the present disclosure, the multi-compartment bag 10 may be a bag-within-a-bag configuration such that the multi-compartment bag includes a primary compartment or bag 60 that occupies the volume of the upper and lower compartments 20, 22 and a secondary compartment or bag 62 suspended within the primary bag 60. For example, the secondary bag 62 may be adhered to an inner surface of one or more walls of the primary bag 60. The secondary bag 62 occupies the volume of the upper compartment 20. The secondary bag 62 has the sealable closure 18 at a bottom end portion thereof to allow for a selective release of the contents of the secondary bag 62 into the primary bag 60.
