Description

TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates to power supply cord stowage for hair dryers.Introduction

[0002] Hair dryers are equipped with a generally long power supply cord. After use, the user usually winds the power supply cord simply around the casing of the hair dryer to stow it. However, if the cord is not held by any device, it can come loose and slip from the casing of the hair dryer. There are therefore systems that allow the cord to be held in place once it is wound around the hair dryer.

[0003] Document CN104621947 discloses a hair dryer comprising a winding groove on the rear part of its casing. The user can wind the power supply cord by passing it through the groove so that it is held in place there. However, as the winding is done only around the casing of the hair dryer, many loops are necessary before the cable is completely wound.

[0004] Document DE9114815 illustrates a hair dryer that includes a device for winding the power supply cord. This device allows the cord to be wound over the entire height of the hair dryer, namely between the casing of the hair dryer and the bottom of the handle. For this purpose, the distal part of the handle comprises a receiving recess in the form of a hollow allowing the cord to pass therethrough, and the casing of the hair dryer comprises a protrusion to center the cord and prevent it from slipping from the casing.

[0005] Document EP1151690A2 discloses a hair dryer comprising a device for stowing the power supply cord in a compact manner around the hair dryer. The cord is stowed by winding it around two contact surfaces, corresponding on the one hand to the casing of the hair dryer and on the other hand to the protective sleeve of the cord located at the base of the handle of the hair dryer. The contact surfaces are provided with indentations into which the cord is inserted so as to be held in place.

[0006] Document DE3501161 describes a hair dryer comprising a support for winding the power supply cord. The support is located on the lower part of the handle and can pivot between a position in alignment with the handle and a position perpendicular to the handle. The user can place the support perpendicularly to the handle to wind the cord between this support and the casing of the hair dryer.

[0007] When the cable is wound around the hair dryer, its bending radius at the exit of the handle is very small and this gradually wears the cord out. This is one of the main causes of hair dryers being returned to manufacturers due to damage.SUMMARY

[0008] The present disclosure is aimed at overcoming the disadvantages of the state of the art, and in particular at providing a pistol-type hair dryer with efficient stowage of the power supply cord by winding the cord around the hair dryer. The present disclosure allows the cord to be held in position after being placed in its stowage position and prevents it from slipping from the casing.

[0009] Another aim of the present disclosure is to provide a solution that prevents damage to the cord at the cord exit of the hair dryer, thanks to the presence of a moveable protective end piece.

[0010] Another aim of the present disclosure is to facilitate the handling of the hair dryer during use, thanks to the mobility of the protective end piece of the cord at the exit of the handle, allowing better flexibility during movements of the cord at the exit of the hair dryer.

[0011] Another aim of the present disclosure is to allow more compact stowage of the hair dryer thanks to the mobility of the protective end piece, which is folded substantially perpendicular to the axis of the handle and avoids additional cord length below the handle.

[0012] The present disclosure discloses a pistol-type hair dryer comprising:

[0013] a casing with an air inlet and an air outlet;

[0014] a handle, the axis of which is substantially perpendicular to the axis of the casing;

[0015] a power supply cord;

[0016] an end piece for protecting the power supply cord passing through a hole included in the distal portion of the handle;

[0017] a cord receiving recess located in the upper part of the hair dryer casing;characterized in that the protective end piece is movable between a position in alignment with the handle and a position for stowing the power supply cord in which the protective end piece is approximately perpendicular to the axis of the handle, said power supply cord being stowed, in use, by winding it using the cord receiving recess provided in the casing as well as the protective end piece.

[0018] According to particular embodiments, the present disclosure includes one or more of the following features:

[0019] the protective end piece comprises an internal part in the form of a half sphere inside the handle and an external part of tubular shape outside the handle;

[0020] the internal semi-spherical part pivots around an axis;

[0021] the internal semi-spherical part of the protective end piece comprise two screws, the screw pillars of which hold the cord inside the protective end piece;

[0022] the bending radius of the power supply cord in the distal part of the handle is at least 0.8 cm, preferably at least 1 cm, more preferably at least 1.2 cm;

[0023] the recess for receiving the cord allows at least four times the diameter of the wound cord to be housed;

[0024] the recess for receiving the cord has a length of between 3.5 and 5.5 cm, preferably between 4 and 5 cm;

[0025] the recess for receiving the cord has a depth of between 0.7 and 1.3 cm, preferably between 0.8 and 1.2 cm.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0046] An example of a hair dryer according to the present disclosure is illustrated in FIG. 1. This is a pistol-type hair dryer, in other words, a hair dryer comprising a casing 2 provided with a handle 3, the handle being distinct from the casing and the axis of the handle being substantially perpendicular to the axis of the casing. As with all hair dryers without battery, it is equipped with a power supply cord 4 exiting the hair dryer through an opening 7 located at the lower end of the handle.

[0047] The hair dryer of the present disclosure comprises a device for stowing the power supply cord after use, allowing the cord to be wound around the hair dryer. More specifically, it includes a recess 6 formed in the upper part of the casing of the hair dryer and a movable protective end piece 5 for the power supply cord is provided on the distal side of the handle of the hair dryer. The protective end piece can be displaced between a position in alignment with the handle, as represented in FIG. 1, and a stowage position wherein the movable end piece is positioned approximately perpendicular to the handle, as represented in FIGS. 2 and 4.

[0048] As illustrated in FIG. 2, when the user wants to stow the hair dryer, they can wind the power supply cord around the casing of the hair dryer and the protective end piece placed in the stowage position. In this way, the end piece is used to hold the power supply cord in place. On the casing, each loop of the cord is placed in the housing provided for this purpose, so as to hold the cord in place on the casing. The housing for receiving the cord is actually a recess provided in the casing, which preferably has a length of between 3.5 and 5.5 cm, preferably between 4 and 5 cm and a depth of between 0.7 and 1.3 cm, preferably between 0.8 and 1.2 cm.

[0049] The size of the loops formed by the cord around the hair dryer is maximized thanks to the device of the present disclosure, which allows to minimize the number of turns needed to stow the entire cord. Indeed, the distance traveled by the cord is approximately equal to the length of the handle added to the diameter of the casing on the handle side. The distance traveled by the cord between the protective end piece and the recess for receiving the cord is preferably greater than 23 cm, preferably even greater than 24 cm. Furthermore, since the protective end piece is movable, the bending radius of the cord at the exit of the handle is increased, which prevents it from being damaged.

[0050] The movable protective end piece is represented in more detail in FIGS. 5 and 6. The protective end piece is located on the distal side of the handle and passes through the opening 7 located at the end of the handle. In this way, the end piece comprises an internal part 8 inside the handle and an external part 9 outside the handle. The internal part 8 is in the form of a semi-spherical shell and extends by the external part 9 in a tubular shape. The cord comprises a first internal part inside the hair dryer that powers the electrical elements such as the motor, and a second external part outside the hair dryer that allows connection to the mains. The protective end piece protects the cord as it passes outside the handle, the cord being locally housed inside the end piece.

[0051] The internal part of the end piece in the form of a semi-spherical shell is preferably formed of two hollow quarter-spheres fastened with two screws. The pillars of the two screws 10 surround the power supply cord to guide it inside the semi-spherical shell.

[0052] The protective end piece is movable and can pivot around an axis 11 located at the center of the internal semi-spherical part, as represented in FIG. 7. In this way, the internal semi-spherical part can pivot around this axis, allowing the external tubular part to move from a position in alignment with the handle, as illustrated in FIG. 5, to a stowage position in which the external part is approximately perpendicular to the handle, as represented in FIG. 6.

[0053] The cord in the distal part of the handle is held inside the movable protective end piece and has in this way a bending radius of at least 0.8 cm, preferably at least 1 cm, more preferably at least 1.2 cm. The mobility of the protective end piece also allows better flexibility of use due to the mobility of the cord near the handle, without damaging it. The user does not have to be as cautious as before when using the hair dryer, and the cord is somewhat spared from numerous movements.

[0054] When the protective end piece is in the stowage position, the semi-spherical part is positioned in such a way as to close the opening located at the end of the handle so that the handle remains hermetic. In this position, the opening acts as a housing for the protective end piece. As shown in FIGS. 8 and 9, the exit opening of the cord has a specific shape allowing the protective end piece to move from the position in alignment with the handle to the stowage position in which the end piece is perpendicular to the axis of the handle. The opening is therefore located partly in the base of the handle but also partly on a lateral side of the handle so that the protective end piece can pass through the handle laterally to be positioned in the stowage position.
