[0007] The prior art relates to roll roofing. Roll roofing is commonly used on low sloped roof pitches and smaller structures such as garages and out buildings. It is easier to install than traditional shingles, because the roll roofing can merely be rolled out onto a roof surface, rather than installing individual shingles. However, roll roofing does not include individual shingles, giving it a less attractive appearance and making it unpopular for application on homes and commercial buildings where the roof will be visible. FIG. 4 provides an example of traditional roll roofing. Thus, there is a need for a roll roofing device which resembles the design of traditional roofing.BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0008] An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a sheet that is planar wherein the sheet is configured to be positionable on a roof surface. The sheet comprises a roll roofing material. The sheet is flexible wherein the sheet is rollable into a storage configuration. The storage configuration is cylindrical. The sheet has a pair of opposing lateral sides. A plurality of indicia are positioned on the sheet. The plurality of indicia have a design that is configured to resemble a shingle roofing. Each indicia of the plurality of indicia generally includes a lower edge that is parallel to the pair of opposing lateral sides of the sheet. A pair of side edges are each perpendicular to the pair of opposing lateral sides of the sheet. The plurality of indicia are arranged in a plurality of rows. [0015] FIG. 4 is an in-use view of an exemplary prior art device.DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0016] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 4 thereof, a new roll roofing embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

[0017] As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 4, the stylized roll roofing device 10 generally comprises a sheet 12, which generally includes a lower surface 14 and an upper surface 16. The lower surface 14 is generally planar wherein the lower surface 14 of the sheet 12 is configured to be positionable on a roof surface 18. The sheet 12 is generally made from a roll roofing material wherein the sheet 12 is configured to inhibit damage to the roof surface 18, such as weather damage caused by wind, rain, or snow. For example, the sheet 12 may comprise any appropriate roll roofing material, including one or more of asphalt, granular stone aggregate, organic felt, polyester, fiberglass, modified bitumen, and plastic. The sheet 12 may also include a plurality of layers, such as a first layer of modified asphalt, a second layer of polyester or fiberglass reinforcement, a third layer of the modified asphalt, and a fourth layer of granular stone aggregate surfacing. The appropriate roofing materials listed in this description are intended for illustrative purposes only, as other materials are also contemplated.

[0018] The sheet 12 is generally flexible wherein the sheet 12 is rollable into a storage configuration 20 and is configured to unroll for installation onto the roof surface 18. Accordingly, the storage configuration 20 may be cylindrical.

[0019] The sheet 12 generally includes a pair of opposing lateral sides 22. The pair of opposing lateral sides 22 are parallel to each other. The sheet 12 may have dimensions that are configured to enable a user to carry the sheet 12 by hand, and to safely manipulate and install the sheet 12 on the roof surface 18. For example, the sheet 12 may have a width that is measured between the pair of opposing lateral sides 22. The width may be between 30.0 inches (or 2.5 feet) and 40.0 inches (or 3.33 feet). The sheet 12 may have a length that is measured perpendicularly to the width, or parallel to the pair of opposing lateral sides 22. The length may be between 360.0 inches (30.0 feet) and 480.0 inches (or 40.0 feet). The width and the length of the sheet 12 are provided in this disclosure for illustrative purposes only, as alternatives are also contemplated, and any appropriate dimensions may be used.

[0020] A plurality of indicia 26 are positioned on the upper surface 16 of the sheet 12. The plurality of indicia 26 have a design that is configured to resemble shingle roofing 54. The plurality of indicia 26 generally cover the upper surface 16 of the sheet 12.

[0021] Each indicium of the plurality of indicia 26 may include a lower edge 28 that is parallel to the pair of opposing lateral sides 22 of the sheet 12. Each indicum may also include a pair of side edges 30 that are perpendicular to the pair of opposing lateral sides 22 of the sheet 12. Each side edge of each indicium of the plurality of indicia 26 may be coincident with a respective adjacent side edge of an adjacent indicium of the plurality of indicia 26, as shown in FIGS. 1-3.

[0022] In some embodiments, each indicium of the plurality of indicia 26 may further include a pair of angled edges 32 that are coupled to and extend between the lower edge 28 and the pair of side edges 30. More specifically, each angled edge of the pair of angled edges 32 may extend upwardly from a respective end of the lower edge 28 and outwardly to a respective side edge of the pair of side edges 30. The pair of angled edges 32 may include a first angled edge 34 and a second angled edge 36. The first angled edge 34 of each indicum may intersect the second angled edge 36 of an adjacent indicium to define an A-line shape between adjacent pairs of the plurality of indicia 26.

[0023] The plurality of indicia 26 are generally arranged in a plurality of rows 38 that are arranged between the pair of opposing lateral sides 22 of the sheet 12. The plurality of rows 38 are generally parallel to the pair of opposing lateral sides 22 of the sheet 12. The plurality of rows 38 may be horizontally offset from one another wherein the lower edge 28 of each indicia of the plurality of indicia 26 in a first row 40 of the plurality of rows 38 intersects a side edge of the pair of side edges 30 of the plurality of indicia 26 in an adjacent row 42 of the plurality of rows 38.

[0024] Each row of the plurality of rows 38 may also overlap the adjacent row 42 of the plurality of rows 38 wherein the plurality of indicia 26 in the first row 40 are positioned to partially cover the plurality of indicia 26 in the adjacent row 42. As used in this description, the first row 40 is generally positioned above the adjacent row 42, such that the first row 40 is positioned between the adjacent row 42 and an upper lateral side 50 of the pair of opposing lateral sides 22 of the sheet 12, and such that the adjacent row 42 is positioned between the first row 40 and a lower lateral side 52 of the pair of opposing lateral sides 22 of the sheet 12. As shown in FIGS. 1-3, the first angled edge 34 of a primary indicum 44 that is positioned in the first row 40 and the second angled edge 36 of a secondary indicium 46 that is positioned in the first row 40 adjacent to the primary indicium 44 may intersect each other between the pair of side edges 30 of a tertiary indicium 48 that is positioned in the adjacent row 42.

[0025] The plurality of indicia 26 may be formed on the upper surface 16 of the sheet 12 by any appropriate means. For example, the plurality of indicia 26 may be printed on the upper surface 16 of the sheet 12. The plurality of indicia 26 may alternatively be shape formed on the upper surface 16 of the sheet 12 during manufacturing of the sheet 12. The plurality of indicia 26 may also be stamped onto the upper surface 16 of the sheet 12. In some embodiments, the plurality of rows 38 may be coupled to the sheet 12 in layers, for example using fasteners such as heat, glue, nails, or other appropriate means. These methods of manufacture are provided for illustrative purposes only and are not intended to limit the disclosure to the specific manufacturing methods that are mentioned. The plurality of indicia 26 should be arranged in the plurality of rows 38 to mimic shingle roofing 54, such as 3 tab shingles, architectural shingles, and designer shingles. The plurality of indicia 26 may have any size, color, and texture that resembles any style of shingle roofing 54, and may be manufactured in a range of sizes, colors, and textures to mimic a range of styles of shingle roofing 54.

[0026] In use, the sheet 12 and the plurality of indicia 26 allow for installation through a simplified process compared to the process of installing traditional shingles. Installation of traditional shingles requires piecemeal installation of each traditional shingle, increasing labor and material costs compared to the use of the stylized roll roofing device 10. Because the plurality of indicia 26 are coupled to the sheet 12, the sheet 12 can simply be unrolled from the storage configuration 20 onto the roof surface 18 and fastened to the roof surface 18 via cement, nails or other appropriate means. The plurality of indicia 26 mimic the aesthetic features of traditional roofing materials, such as shingle roofing 54. Prior art designs of roll roofing do not include the plurality of indicia 26 that mimic traditional roofing, as shown in FIG. 4, making them less aesthetically pleasing. This stylized roll roofing device 10 can therefore be installed on any roof surface 18, regardless of the slope of the roof surface 18, while maintaining the aesthetically pleasing look of shingle roofing 54.

[0027] With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

[0028] Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
