Abstract
Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a walking cane and more particularly to a walking cane with a telescopic adjustment structure.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Referring to FIGS. 10 and 11, a conventional telescopic walking cane (40) comprises a main body (41) and a supporting rod (42), and a telescopic positioning structure (50) is provided at the corresponding position between the main body (41) and the supporting rod (42). The telescopic positioning structure (50) has a tube sleeve (51) and an expanding driving member (52), and the tube sleeve (51) is inserted into the supporting rod (52) in a tight-fitting manner. Moreover, an external threaded section (511) is formed on the surface of the tube sleeve (51), and one end of the expanding driving member (52) is cylindrically shaped and threaded onto the external threaded section (511) of the tube sleeve (51). The bottom end of the expanding driving member (52) is provided with an elastic claw portion (521), and the tube sleeve (51) is fitted into a conical frustum (60). The tube sleeve (51) is provided with a support portion (512) at its base for abutting against the bottom of the conical frustum (60). Additionally, the conical frustum (60) and the elastic claw portion (521) of the expanding driving member (52) are arranged in an inclined abutting fit. This configuration enables the elastic claw portion (521) of the expanding driving member (52) to expand outwardly, thereby tightly pressing against the inner wall of the main body (41) to achieve a stable positioning state. When adjusting the length of the cane (40), the user rotates the supporting rod (42), which simultaneously drives the tube sleeve (51) and the conical frustum (60) to rotate. This rotation causes the external threaded section (511) of the tube sleeve (51) to engage in a threaded displacement with the expanding driving member (52), thereby controlling the tightening or loosening interaction between the expanding driving member (52) and the conical frustum (60), ultimately achieving the purpose of length adjustment.
[0003] However, the conventional walking cane has following disadvantages: (i) the cane (40) uses the external threaded section (511) of the tube sleeve (51) to apply a threaded locking force, causing the conical frustum (60) to expand the expanding driving member (52), thereby enabling the elastic claw portion (521) of the expanding driving member (52) to press tightly against the inner wall of the main body (41). However, to increase the clamping force, the user needs to exert more effort to compress the expanding driving member (52) through the tube sleeve (51), which results in excessive resistance during the threaded rotation, making the operation noticeably labor-intensive; and (ii) The external threaded section (511) of the tube sleeve (51) and the expanding driving member (52) require a rotational mechanism to adjust the length of the cane. However, the supporting rod (42) has a smooth outer surface, making it difficult for users to grip and rotate effectively. Additionally, the length adjustment process via rotating the supporting rod (42) is relatively slow, preventing the user from making quick length changes based on real-time usage needs. As a result, the cane (40) presents operational inconveniences in terms of both grip and adjustment efficiency. Therefore, there remains a need for a new and improved design for a walking cane to overcome the problems presented above.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

A first spring (315) is upwardly sleeved on the shaft rod (31) from the second threaded section (312), and one end of the first spring (315) is abutted against the washer (314) to form a fixed position. One end of the connecting block (32) is secured on the first threaded section (311) of the shaft rod (31), and a non-circular tool hole (321) is formed on the other end of the connecting block (32) so as to allow the use of a hand tool to fasten the connecting block (32) onto the first threaded section (311). An assembly slot (322) is formed at a lateral side of the connecting block (32) to connect to the linkage portion (132) of the pulling portion (13), and an axial channel (331) axially penetrates through both ends of the pushing member (33). The axial channel (331) pass through the second threaded section (312) to sleeve the pushing member (33) on the shaft rod (31), so as to restrict the first spring (315) between the pushing member (33) and the washer (314). Furthermore, a socket portion (332) is formed at one end of the pushing member (33) to connect to one end of the inner tube (10), and the socket portion (332) has a second fitting plane (333) to be coupled and secured with the guiding plane (11) of the inner tube (10). Also, the other end of the pushing member (33) comprises a tapered portion (334), and a locating ring section (335) is formed between the tapered portion (334) and the socket portion (332) to abut against an end edge of the inner tube (10). The tightening member (34) comprises a plurality of adjacent expanding pieces (341) arranged in a ring shape, and an axial hole (342) is formed between the expanding pieces (341), and at least an elastic ring (343) is disposed on an outer periphery of the expanding pieces (341). The tightening member (34) passes through the second threaded section (312) of the shaft rod (31) through the axial hole (342), and the expanding pieces (341) is configured to cover around the tapered portion (334) of the pushing member (33). [0028] Furthermore, a second locating portion (316) is protrudingly formed on shaft rod (31) adjacent to the first threaded section (311), and a soft column (317) is sleeved onto the shaft rod (31) and limited between first locating portion (313) and the second locating portion (316), and an outer diameter of the soft column (317) is larger than an outer diameter of the washer (314), so as to position the shaft rod (31) at center position and to prevent the washer (314) from colliding with an inner wall of the inner tube (10), thus reducing noise.
[0029] An end of the axial hole (342) of the tightening member (34) is recessed and formed with a reduced-diameter section (344), and the threaded lock member (35) has a rivet nut (351) and first nut (352). The rivet nut (351) is embedded into the reduced-diameter section (344), and a third threaded section is formed on an inner periphery of the rivet nut (351) to engage with the second threaded section (312), and the first nut (352) is threaded onto an end of the second threaded section (312) and abutted against a bottom of the tightening member (34).
[0030] Structurally, referring to FIGS. 3 to 5, the linkage member (30) is first assembled by attaching the connecting block (32) onto the first threaded section (311) of the shaft rod (31), and then the second threaded section (312) is inserted upward through the washer (314) and the first spring (315). The washer (314) is fixed to the first locating portion (313) of the shaft rod (31), thereby limiting the position of the first spring (315) at a lower half of the shaft rod (31). The tapered portion (334) of the pushing member (33) is faced downward, and the axial channel (331) of the pushing member (33) is adapted to upward pass through the second threaded section (312) to connect the pushing member (33) to the shaft rod (31), and meanwhile, the first spring (315) is abutted between the washer (314) and the pushing member (33), and the shaft rod (31), along with the connecting block (32) and the pushing member (33), is assembled with the inner tube (10). The shaft rod (31) is upward inserted into the inner tube (10) through the connecting block (32), and the socket portion (332) of the pushing member (33) is press-fitted and fixed to an inner periphery of a bottom end of the inner tube (10), and the locating ring section (335) is engaged to abut against and limit the bottom end of the inner tube (10), allowing the second threaded section (312) to extend outward from the pushing member (33). The assembly slot (322) of the connecting block (32) is faced to the through hole (111) of the inner tube (10), and the linkage portion (132) of the pulling portion (13) is inserted through the penetrating slot (124) and the through hole (111) to engage and connect with the assembly slot (322) of the connecting block (32). Meanwhile, the connecting portion (131) of the pulling portion (13) is pivotally mounted to the first pivot portion (122) of the connecting sleeve (12) so as to form a lever fulcrum, so that the shaft rod (31) is configured to move up and down in response to the lever action of the pulling portion (13). The expanding pieces (341) of the tightening member (34) are annularly arranged to surround and cover the tapered portion (334) of the pushing member (33), and the axial hole (342) is sleeved onto the second threaded section (312), and the tightening member (34) is secured onto the second threaded section (312) through the threaded lock member (35). The inner tube (10) is assembled and inserted into the outer tube (20) through the open tube port (22), and the locating plane (231) of the outer tube sleeve (23) is coupled and secured with the guiding plane (11) of the inner tube (10), thereby restricting rotational movement of the inner tube (10) within the outer tube (20), so as to complete the structure of the telescopic walking cane.
[0031] In actual application, referring to FIG. 4, when the pulling portion (13) is not operated, the shaft rod (31) is pushed upward by the first spring (315), thereby causing the tightening member (34) to be normally positioned around the tapered portion (334) of the pushing member (33). Through the gradually upward expanding design of the tapered portion (334), the expanding pieces (341) are outwardly spread, such that an outer periphery of the expanding pieces (341) of the tightening member (34) are abutted against an inner wall of the outer tube (20), thereby establishing a fixed state of the outer tube (20). When the user assists in walking with the walking cane of the present invention, the cane is used to support the body, causing a shift in the user's center of gravity onto the walking cane, and the force is transmitted along the inner tube (10) to the outer tube (20). Since the inner tube (10) is downward pressed by the user, and the outer tube (20) is resisted against the ground with an upward reaction force, the pushing member (33) and the tightening member (34) of the linkage member (30) are urged against each other, and the pressing effect is enhanced between them, so as to effectively prevent the outer tube (20) from sliding along the inner tube (10), thereby ensuring the stability of the walking cane and improving the safety of walking assistance with the walking cane.
[0032] Furthermore, when the user needs to adjust the length of the walking cane, as shown in FIGS. 5 to 9, the locking cover (14) is opened by being flipped downward, and the pulling portion (13) is disengaged from the blocking state of the locking cover (14) and become operable for lever action. During lever action, the user can directly pull upward the pulling portion (13) by using their index or middle finger while holding the first handle (15), so as to facilitate the adjustment of the walking cane's length. When the pulling portion (13) is pulled, the connecting portion (131) severs as the pivot point for the upward lever action, and through the linkage portion (132), the connecting block (32) is pushed downward. As a result, the shaft rod (31) moves downward along with the displacement of the connecting block (32), and the first spring (315) is compressed through the washer (314). Simultaneously, the tightening member (34) at the second threaded section (312) of the shaft rod (31) moves downward to disengage from the tapered portion (334) of the pushing member (33), causing the tightening member (34) to enter a non-expanded state, and the elastic ring (343) then forces the expanding pieces (341) of the tightening member (34) to be retracted. Accordingly, the inner wall of the outer tube (20) is no longer supported and fixed by the tightening member (34), allowing the walking cane to be lifted off the ground. Also, the outer tube (20) can then naturally slide downward by its own weight, enabling extension of the walking cane. Alternatively, by pressing the walking cane downward against the ground, the outer tube (20) moves upward along the inner tube (10), resulting in a shortening adjustment, so as to achieve the purpose of stepless telescopic adjustment. After the adjustment, the pulling portion (13) is released to allow the shaft rod (31) to move upward through the rebound force of the first spring (315), and the movement also causes the pulling portion (13) to return to its original position into non-levered state. Meanwhile, the tightening member (34) is moved upward along with the shaft rod (31) and guided along the tapered portion (334) of the pushing member (33) to return to the expanded state. Furthermore, the expanding pieces (341) then once again press tightly against the inner wall of the outer tube (20) into the positioning state, so as to allow the telescopic adjustment of the walking cane to be completed quickly and easily. Then, the locking cover (14) is flipped upward and latched into the place to prevent accidental activation of the pulling portion (13), thereby ensuring its locked state. As a result, when the walking cane is used for walking on stairs, the user can quickly adjust it to a suitable length according to their arm length and the height of the steps. Similarly, when transitioning from a seated to a standing position, the user can utilize the shortened cane to brace against the ground for assisted standing, so as to significantly enhancing the practicality of the walking cane.
[0033] Comparing with conventional walking cane, the present invention is advantageous because: (i) the linkage member (30) is installed between the inner tube (10) and the outer tube (20), and the pushing member (33) of the linkage member (30) is fixedly mounted at the end of the inner tube (10) while the tightening member (34) of the linkage member (30) is movably extendable into the outer tube (20). Moreover, the shaft rod (31) is connected to the pulling portion (13) of the inner tube (10) through the connecting block (32) so as to allow the pulling portion (13) to control the vertical displacement of the shaft rod (31), and to drive the pushing member (33) and the tightening member (34) to have expand and tighten or contract and loosen status, thereby adjusting and securing the length between the inner tube (10) and the outer tube (20). The simple and labor-saving telescopic adjustment function allows the user to quickly and easily adjust to the desired length, making it especially suitable for elderly users with less strength or limited dexterity, thus enhancing ease of use; and (ii) the guiding plane (11) is formed on the outer periphery of the inner tube, and the inner wall of the outer tube sleeve (23) of the outer tube (20) has the locating plane (231) to couples with and corresponds to the guiding, so as to guide and restrict the movement of the inner tube (10), effectively preventing relative rotation between the inner tube (10) and the outer tube (20) during telescopic adjustment, and then enhancing the stability of the walking cane during use and while adjusting its length.
[0034] Having described the invention by the description and illustrations above, it should be understood that these are exemplary of the invention and are not to be considered as limiting. Accordingly, the invention is not to be considered as limited by the foregoing description, but includes any equivalents.
