Abstract
Description
BACKGROUND
[0001] There is difficulty in keeping sheets on the bed of a mattress, even when fitted sheets are used. In some cases, a product needs to be used to hold sheets in place, e.g. sheet suspenders. Suspenders are stretched out underneath the mattress where they are coupled to the sheet. However, the mattress needs to be lifted to access where the suspender goes underneath. Once the suspenders are coupled, the fitted sheet is stretched to prevent falling off and slippage. When it comes time to switch sheets, however, the suspenders must be removed to take off the sheet. This requires lifting the mattress again to access underneath for uncoupling the suspenders. Additionally, the mattress needs to be lifted a third time when a new sheet is applied to reattach the suspenders. This level of physical work for the user to change sheets showcases a need for a simpler product.
[0002] Other types of suspenders entail connecting only the corners of the bed sheets through three points. The problem with these suspenders, is they only work on the corner of fitted sheets and are not designed for use with flat sheets.
[0003] In both cases, however, there are levels of physical fitness that are required for changing the sheets when using these suspenders. The mattress has to be fully lifted up multiple times to be able to change sheets with current products on the market. There is a need on the market for a simple apparatus that can keep the sheet held down and allow for an easy capacity to switch the sheets without having to lift the mattress from the bed frame.
[0004] Conventional suspenders and their applications, though popular, lack many desirable features. As mentioned above, the level of fitness to keep a fitted sheet leaves a desire for a new product. These limitations and drawbacks are overcome with the mechanical apparatus in accordance with the disclosure described below.SUMMARY

[0033] The following detailed description presents certain embodiments to illustrate the inventive concepts, but which are meant by way of example only and are not intended to limit the scope of the invention.
[0034] An attribute for the bedsheet retainment system is to maintain and couple materials placed on top of an object e.g. a sheet on bed mattress into place and straighten them out without slippage of the coupled object. In some embodiments, the bedsheet retainment system comprises a bedsheet support device have a proximal and distal end. In some embodiments, the distal end comprises an elastic strap opening. In some embodiments, the proximal end comprises a bed mattress engagement feature. In some embodiments, the bed mattress engagement feature comprises protrusions that engage with the bed mattress. In some embodiments, there are two surfaces on the bedsheet support device. In some embodiments, the protrusions are only on one surface of the bedsheet support device. In some embodiments, the protrusions are on both surfaces of the bedsheet support device. An attribute of the bed mattress engagement feature is to prevent the bedsheet support device from escaping between the mattress and the bed frame.
[0035] In some embodiments of the present invention, the bedsheet support device is made of wood. In some instances, the bedsheet support device is made of plastic. In some instances, the bedsheet support device is made of carbon fiber. In some instances, the bedsheet support device is made of resin. In some instances, the bedsheet support device is made of composite material. In some instances the bedsheet support device is made of thermoplastic.
[0036] In some embodiments a strap is coupled to the to the elastic strap opening located at the distal end of the bedsheet support device. In some embodiments, the strap is elastic. An attribute of an elastic strap is it stretches between a first relaxed position and a second stretched position.
[0037] In some embodiments, the distal end of the elastic strap is coupled to a bedsheet engagement device. The elastic strap remains in a first relaxed position when placed between the mattress and the bed frame. The elastic strap is stretched to a second engaged position when the bedsheet engagement device coupled to the strap is coupled to a synthetic material. In some instances, the material is a bedsheet.
[0038] As previously stated, in some embodiments, a bedsheet engagement device is coupled to the distal end of the elastic strap of the bedsheet retainment system. In some embodiments, a synthetic material is placed on top of the object on top of the mattress on top of the bedsheet support device. In some embodiments, the synthetic material is a sheet. The sheet is coupled to the bedsheet engagement device. The bedsheet engagement device holds the sheet in place and prevent slippage of the sheet from the mattress. In some embodiments the bedsheet engagement device is a clip. In some embodiments, the bedsheet engagement device is from U.S. Pat. No. 11,006,700 as incorporated by references.
[0039] An attribute of the bedsheet retainment device is the ease of switching the synthetic material on top of the object on top of the bedsheet support device without having to fully remove the bedsheet support device from in between the mattress and the bed frame. The bedsheet support device does not need to be removed when the synthetic material is uncoupled from the bed sheet engagement device. This allows for ease of use for the user as the synthetic material can then be swapped out with another synthetic material such as a textile where it is coupled in again by the user. This allows ease of use as the object on top of the bedsheet support device, e.g. a mattress, does not need to be lifted fully each time the synthetic material placed on top is replaced.
[0040] Greater detail will be discussed with reference to the non-limiting embodiments of FIGS. 1-19. Turning to FIGS. 1, 3, a bedsheet retainment system 10 is shown in accordance with a non-limiting embodiment of the present disclosure. Here, the bedsheet retainment system 10 includes one or more bedsheet support devices 100, one or more straps 200, and one or more sheet engagement devices, here shown as sheet clips 300. The bedsheet support device 100 engages the bed mattress 400 and / or bed frame 500, the sheet engagement device 300 engages the sheet, and the elastic strap 200 flexibly couples the bedsheet support devices 100 to the sheet engagement device 300. As further illustrated, the one or more support devices 100 and respective straps 200 and clips 300 can be positioned at one or more sides of the mattress 400 and frame 500, such as at the top, bottom, left side, and / or right side. The supports 100 only need to be placed toward the edge of those sides, such as within about 14-18 inches from the edge, and can be slid between the mattress and frame so that the mattress need not be lifted off of the frame.
[0041] The bedsheet support device 100 has a main body 101. The main body 101 is elongated, and has a longitudinal length with a longitudinal axis, transverse width, thickness, proximal end 104 and distal end 105, here shown as a flat elongated rectangular plate. However, the main body 101 can have any suitable shape, such as round, curved, square, or oval.
[0042] As best shown in FIGS. 4-7, one or more bed mattress engagement features 103 are optionally provided at the main body 101 of the bed sheet support device 100. The engagement features 103 can be integrally formed with the main body 101, or a discrete element that is attached to the main body 101 such as by an adhesive or fastening member. The main body 101 is flat and thin and has an upper surface 106 and a lower surface 107. The engagement features 103 are shown formed on the upper surface of the main body 101, though engagement features 103 can also be formed on the lower surface of the main body 101. As best shown in FIGS. 5, 7, the engagement features 103 are elongated, here shown as a rectangle, and comprise protrusions, bumps or ridges that project outward from the upper surface (and lower surface, where provided) of the main body 101, and channels or grooves between the bumps. They can be elongated and arranged parallel to and spaced apart from each other, and extend transversely along the longitudinal length of the main body 101, substantially the entire width of the main body 101. However, any suitable configuration can be made for the engagement features 103, such as curved, rough, uneven, barged, or sharp. FIG. 8 shows another configuration, where the engagement features are small hexagonal shaped and arranged in rows and columns with multiple engagement features in each row extending substantially the entire width of the main body, and multiple engagement features in each column.
[0043] Referring to FIGS. 1, 2, the bedsheet support device 100 is placed between an upper mattress 400 and a lower mattress or bed frame 500. The mattress 400 is lifted from the bed frame 500, and the bedsheet support device is inserted between the mattress 400 and the bed frame 500. The bedsheet support device 100 is held in place by the weight of the mattress 400 on the bed frame 500, even where bed mattress engagement features 103 are not provided on the main body 101. In addition, the bed mattress engagement features 103 further engage the upper mattress 400 (and lower bed frame 500, when lower engagement features 103 are provided), and further resist movement of the main body 101 with respect to the upper mattress 400 and the lower bed frame 500. As illustrated, the bedsheet support device 100 is positioned with the transverse engagement features 103 substantially parallel to the sides of the mattress 400 and bed frame 500, to further enhance engagement between the engagement features 103 better engage the upper mattress 400 (and lower bed frame 500, when lower engagement features are provided) and to resist any outward pulling motion on the main frame 101 that might otherwise pull the support 100 out from between the upper mattress 400 and lower bed frame 500. The proximal end 104 of the bedsheet support device 100 has an elastic strap opening.
[0044] In certain embodiments, the bed support device 100 can be made of a grip material such as rubber or plastic. In some embodiments, the support device 100 can be weighted to be heavy, such as being a dense metal, to better prevent movement of the bed support device 100. In other embodiments, the mattress engagement features 103 can be positioned on the main body lower surface 107 (FIG. 8) and engage features of the bed frame 500, such as springs, interior frame members or outer frame members. In other embodiments, the bedsheet support device 100 can be coupled directly to the bed frame 500, for example the bedsheet support device 100 can be a fastener or clip member.
[0045] The elastic strap 200 has a strap distal end, strap proximal end, and strap intermediate portion between the strap proximal end and strap distal end. Referring to FIGS. 6, 7, the strap distal end is coupled to the main body 101 through the elastic strap opening 102 on the proximal end 104 of the main body 101 of the bed sheet support device 100. In the example shown, the strap distal end passes through the strap opening 102 and is sewn back onto the strap to form a closed loop that permanently affixes the strap 200 to the main body 101. In other embodiments, the strap 200 can be removably coupled with the main body 101, such as by a hook and loop fastener coupled with the distal portion of the strap 200.
[0046] As illustrated, the strap distal end and at least a portion of the strap intermediate portion, are located between the upper mattress 400 and the lower bed frame 500. And, the strap proximal end and at least a portion of the strap intermediate portion, extend outward from between the upper mattress 400 and the lower bed frame 500. The strap proximal end is removably coupled with the bedsheet engagement device 300.
[0047] The bedsheet engagement device 300 is coupled to the strap proximal end of the strap 200. In some embodiments, the bedsheet engagement device is a clip 300. FIG. 3 shows the bedsheet retainment system when a sheet 401 is placed on top of the upper mattress 400. In this figure, the bedsheet support device 100 is not seen, but the strap 200 passes between the mattress 400 and the sheet 401, and couples to the clip 300 from the interior side of the sheet 401.
[0048] Any suitable bedsheet engagement mechanism can be used to couple the bed sheet 401 to the strap 200. One such mechanism is illustrated, for example, in U.S. Pat. No. 11,006,700, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety and reproduced as FIGS. 9A, 9B, 10. As shown in those figures and described in the '700 Patent, the removable clip 300 has a bed sheet clip section 310 that removably couples to the bed sheet 401, and a strap coupling section 350 that couples to the elastic strap 200. The bed sheet coupling section 310 can have a base member 312 with a coupling well 314, a strap coupling section 350, and a cover member 320 having an exterior platform, coupling opening, and a coupling well plug 324. The bed sheet 401 is trapped in the coupling well or channel 314, between the coupling well 314 and a coupling well plug 324 when the coupling well plug 324 is pressed into the coupling well 314. A release or handle 326 can be provided on the plug 324 to facilitate removal of the plug 324 from the coupling well 314. The strap coupling section 350 includes one or more elongated slots 352 that receive the strap 200. The proximal strap end can then be removably attached to the strap coupling section 350. For example, the proximal strap end can have a hook and look fastener. The proximal strap end is passed through the strap slots 352, and fastened back onto the strap 200. In another embodiment, the proximal strap end can be permanently affixed to the strap coupling section 352, such as by being passed through the strap slot 352 and sewn back onto the strap 200.
[0049] A sheet 401 is placed on top of the mattress and placed in between the clip before it is snapped into place. This holds the sheet in place without any slippage. An attribute of this disclosure, as mentioned above, is the sheet can be changed without removing the bedsheet support device from in between the mattress and the bed frame. The sheet gets uncoupled from the clip 300 attached to the bedsheet support device and can be replaced with a different sheet that is then coupled in with the clip. This allows for the user to not have to constantly move the mattress or bedframe when changing sheets and to couple them into the clip.
[0050] Thus, the device 100 can be utilized in several different ways. The support 100 can be placed between the upper mattress 400 and lower bed frame 500, and the elastic strap 200 left hanging at the outside of the mattress 400 and frame 500. The clip 300 can then be coupled to the bed sheet 401, and the elastic strap 200 then removably attached to the strap coupling section 350. In another embodiment, the clip 300 is pre-attached to the strap 200, and the clip 300 is then removably coupled to the bed sheet 401. In yet another embodiment, the clip300 is first attached to the bed sheet 401, and then the support 100 is placed between the upper mattress 400 and the lower bed frame 500.
[0051] FIG. 11 shows another example embodiment of a bedsheet support device 100 of the disclosure. Similar to previous figures, the proximal end 104 of the bedsheet support device comprises an elastic loop opening 102. Here, however, the bed mattress engagement feature 103 forms a crisscross pattern on the top and / or bottom surfaces 106, 107 of the bed mattress support device 100 and covers the entire top and / or bottom surfaces 106, 107 of the bedsheet support device 100. The engagement features 103 form linear lines that extend at an angle across the entire width of the top and / or bottom surfaces of the bedsheet support device 100. The lines alternate at about 30 degrees to about 120 degrees from one longitudinal side to the opposite longitudinal side to intersect each other (3 times in the embodiment shown). As best shown in FIGS. 12-15, 17, the engagement features 103 can be thin walls that extend outward from the top and / or bottom surfaces 106, 107 of the bedsheet support device 100. The walls can have a uniform thickness, or can be triangular shaped to be wider at the base and pointed at the top. In this embodiment, the main body 101 can have a thickness of about 0.510 inches and the coupling section can be about 0.080 inches thick and 0.5 inches long. The support 100 can be 12.50 inches long and 1.5 inches wide, with an elongated strap slot of 1.125 inches in length.
[0052] FIG. 14 shows another embodiment where the bed mattress engagement feature 103 is only on the upper surface 106. FIG. 15 shows another embodiment where is a perspective of the top of the bedsheet support device. Similar to previous figures, the distal end 104 of the bedsheet support device comprises an elastic loop opening 102. The proximal end 105 of the bedsheet support device comprises a beds mattress engagement feature that covers the main body 101 of the bedsheet support device.
[0053] FIGS. 16, 18-19 show another example embodiment of the support 100. Here, the main body does not have a flat top surface, but instead the main body 101 is formed by the crisscross wall pattern.
[0054] In some embodiments the length of the bedsheet support device is about 12.500 inches. In some embodiments, the length of the bedsheet support device is about 11 to about 14 inches. In some embodiments, the width of the bedsheet support device is 1.5 inches. In some embodiments, the width of the bedsheet support device is about 0.5 inches to about 2.5 inches. In some embodiments the height of the bedsheet support device is about 0.510. inches. In some embodiments, the height of the bedsheet support device is about 0.4 inches to about 0.7 inches. In some embodiments the length of the elastic strap opening on the distal end of the bedsheet support device is about 1.125 inches. In some embodiments, the length of the elastic strap opening on the distal end of the bedsheet support device is about 1 inch to about 2 inches. In some embodiments, the width of the elastic strap opening is about 0.075 inches. In some embodiments, the width of the elastic strap opening is about 0.05 inches to about 0.1 inches. In some embodiments, the height of the elastic strap opening is about 0.08 inches. In some embodiments, the height of the elastic strap opening is about 0.06 inches to about 0.1 inches.
[0055] In some embodiments, the strap 200 is elastic so it can stretch during use so that the support 100 need not be aligned with the clip 300. In addition, the elastic strap 200 applies a holding force to keep the bed sheet 401 in a taut position on the bed mattress 400. However, other suitable materials can be utilized, and for example the strap 200 need not be elastic or stretchable. The strap 200 can be a non-stretchable fabric or plastic.
