Abstract
Description
REFERENCE TO RELATED PATENTS
[0001] The present application claims priority to the previously filed provisional application no. 63 / 768,384 filed Mar. 7, 2025.FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0002] The present invention, in general, relates to a display system, and more specifically, it relates to a display system configured to hold a display item that is substantially planar, such as a record album, and that allows the user to not only display their display item, but also allows them to remove the display item easily when they want to play the album, inspect the album or quickly swap albums and rearrange the displays without having to unmount the whole frame. The display comprises an outer frame with a back panel to which an inner frame or sleeve is detachably attached by a mounting system. The inner frame or sleeve is configured to receive and hold the record album or other similar items. More importantly, the display system is designed in such a manner that it gives a floating effect to the item displayed in the display system.BACKGROUND
[0003] Frames are routinely used to display and store objects that include art, pictures, memorabilia, photographs, drawings, items of sentimental value, posters, certificates, and textiles. Traditionally, these frames come in varied sizes and shapes and materials. These frames comprise outer and inner frames. In some cases, the outer frame may comprise decorative or intricate design or moldings. The object to store and display in this frame is placed in between the outer and inner frame. The picture frame may also comprise a protective framing glass or acrylic sheets, which may or may not be coated with anti-reflective coatings. The objects that are framed are held in place by pressure applied between the outer and inner frames or with the help of adhesives. Additionally, one has to separate the outer and inner frame to place the object in between the two frames while framing the object. This makes the process of framing tedious.
[0004] Hence, there is a need for a display system that makes storing and displaying the objects easy for the user so that he or she can remove, swap and rearrange the display quickly without damaging the object. And while the inventors contemplate the object to be a record album, this same concept may be equally translatable to virtually any largely flat object or item including, but not exclusively listed, magazines, fliers, posters, pictures, photographs, letters, certificates, diplomas, cards, trading cards, and / or any flat card stock, memorabilia, souvenirs which are roughly flat which, as described, may be any type of quadrilateral (e.g., square or rectangular), but also any shape (i.e., circular, oval, oblong, triangular, star-shaped, and the like), so long as it is flat and capable of placement within said inner and outer frames.
[0005] While the inventor has set forth the best mode or modes contemplated in carrying out the present invention known to the inventor, such as to enable a person skilled in the art to make and practice the present invention, the preferred embodiments are, however, not intended to be limiting, but are, on the contrary, included in a non-limiting sense apt to amendments, alterations, alternatives and modifications, based primarily on the object size, in light of specification and appended claims forming the current disclosure.BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0037] As detailed in FIG. 1, the present invention is a display system 10 that comprises an outer frame 20 and an inner frame or sleeve 30. The outer frame 20 sits at a distance away from the inner frame or sleeve 30. For example, the outer frame 20 is 36mm deep and sits at 28mm away from the inner frame or sleeve 30. The outer frame 20 further comprises an outer wall 27 and a back panel 28. The outer wall 27 is decorative and is made of materials including but not limited to 4 mm thick acrylic. Additionally, the thickness and color of the outer wall 27 may vary depending on aesthetic preference, and desire for the frame to be sturdy. Outer wall 27 is connected to back panel 28. Alternatively, back panel 28 may not be connected to outer wall 27. Additionally, back panel 28 comprises a front facing side 28a and a back facing side 28b as shown in FIG. 8. As shown in FIGS. 1 and 8, the front facing side 28a faces the back side of rear face 30b of inner sleeve or frame 30. Back panel 28 can be made of different materials so that the wall behind the frame is visible and gives a floating effect to the item on display in display system 10. An example of the material that gives such floating effect to the item on display is clear acrylic. The display system 10 may be of different geometric shapes and sizes and may rest on a surface or may be hung on a support such as a wall for display. For example, the display system 10 may be placed on a surface in a standing or leaning orientation, or hung from a support.
[0038] As depicted in FIG. 2, outer wall 27 comprises sides 20a, 20b, 20c, and 20d. Embedded in the front facing side 28a of the back panel 28 are plurality of neodymium magnets 25a, 25b, 25c, 25d, 25e, 25f, 25g, 25h, 25i, 25j, 25k, 25l, 25m, 25n, 25o, and 25p. Alternatively, the magnets may be on strips and the strips may be embedded in the front facing side 28a of the back panel 28. Each of the strips holds at least 4 neodymium magnets, an example of which is shown in FIG. 6. For instance, FIG. 6 shows strip 21 holding at least 4 neodymium magnets 25a-25d. The configuration of placement of the magnets or strips may vary. One example of how the magnets are arranged is depicted in FIG. 2. Further, embedded in the back panel 28 is an attachment 26 with a keyhole 26a to hang display system 10 on a support. Additionally, the display system 10 may rest on a surface by standing on its own due to the thickness of outer frame 20.
[0039] FIG. 3 illustrates the inner frame or sleeve 30 of display system 10. Inner frame or sleeve 30 holds the display item, such as a record album and is made of a transparent material such as clear acrylic, which gives the display item a borderless appearance as shown in FIG. 8. It is contemplated herein that one can use transparent material similar to clear acrylic or with properties similar to clear acrylic in constructing inner frame or sleeve 30. Some examples include polycarbonate, polyethylene terephthalate (PETG), or plexiglass. The spine of the item displayed in display system 10 can be seen since there is no other frame interrupting or covering the border. Inner frame or sleeve 30 comprises a front face 30a, a rear face 30b, a top edge 30c, a bottom edge 30d, and a bottom or a base portion 36. The front face 30a and rear face 30b are connected along top edge 30c and bottom edge 30d by a fold 30e on the left side of the inner frame or sleeve. The top, right or top and right side of inner frame or sleeve 30 are left open for easy access, allowing the display item 29 to slide in and out easily as shown in FIG. 7. As shown in FIGS. 1 and 8, the front facing side 28a of back panel faces the backside of rear face 30b of inner frame or sleeve 30. The user can detach the inner frame or sleeve 30 from the outer frame by pulling inner frame or sleeve 30 away from back panel 28 so as to disengage the detachable attachment between inner frame or sleeve 30 and back panel 28 and then slide display item 29 through the top, right or top and right side of inner frame or sleeve 30 such that display item 29 is received between front face 30a and rear face 30b and supported by bottom 36 of inner frame or sleeve 30. Alternatively, display item 29 can be inserted into inner frame or sleeve 30 while the inner frame or sleeve 30 remains attached to the front facing side 28a of back panel 28. Without detaching inner frame or sleeve 30 from outer frame 20, the user can slide display item 29 through the top, right or top and right side of inner frame or sleeve 30 such that display item 29 is received between front face 30a and rear face 30b and supported by bottom 36 of inner frame or sleeve 30. Both these options allow the user to both change display item 29 quickly and to simply tilt inner frame or sleeve 30 to the right to drop display item 29 out, while leaving the jacket of the item (if any) on display. For instance, if display item 29 is a record album, the user can simply tilt inner frame or sleeve 30 to the right to drop the record out while leaving the jacket of the record on display. Since the inner frame or sleeve 30 is made of acrylic or similar transparent material, it also lets the user view the back of the display item without having to unframe it, by simply pulling the inner frame or sleeve 30 off the magnets attaching it to the outer frame 20.
[0040] The clear acrylic of inner frame or sleeve 30 is 2mm thick, which allows the acrylic to be bent to correct size and shape. This thickness can vary + / - 1mm. The bend has a very specific diameter of 10 mm. This enables inner frame or sleeve 30 to hold standard LP record albums in standard thickness (single album) of 3.12 mm up to double LP album thickness 9mm. Additionally, the bend is positioned to the left, to go over the spine of the album, leaving the spine visible. The bottom 36 of inner frame or sleeve 30 comprises a base that is about 10 mm thick slice of acrylic on which the item to be displayed can rest and prevents it from sliding out as shown in FIG. 4. Bottom 36 can be completely closed by the acrylic base or may be slightly open close to bottom edge 30d. Although the invention discusses using acrylic to construct bottom 36, it is contemplated that one can use similar materials or materials with property similar to acrylic to construct bottom 36.
[0041] Inner frame or sleeve 30 is attached to outer frame 20 via neodymium magnets. The back of rear face 30b comprises acrylic bars 31, 32, 33, 34. The acrylic bars 31, 32, 33, 34 are 10mm thick and each bar comprises a set of 4 magnets embedded into it. An example of a bar is depicted in FIG. 5. For instance, bar 31 comprises magnets 35a, 35b, 35c, 35d, bar 32 comprises magnets 35e, 35f, 35g, 35h, bar 33 comprises magnets 35i, 35j, 35k, 35l, and bar 34 comprises magnets 35m, 35n, 35o, 35p. These magnets are of opposite polarity from the magnets embedded in front facing side 28a of back panel 28 of outer frame 20. One example of how the strips is arranged is depicted in FIG. 3. The acrylic bars 31, 32, 33, and 34 are configured to lift the display item away from or to lift off back panel 28 of outer frame 20, which enhances the floating effect. The magnets are 5mm in size and are strong enough to hold a double LP, while still being manageable enough to pull the inner frame or sleeve 30 in and out of outer frame 20.
[0042] Although only a select few example embodiments have been described in detail above, those skilled in the art will readily appreciate that many modifications are possible in the example embodiments without materially departing from this disclosure of the invention. Accordingly, all such modifications are intended to be included within the scope of this disclosure as defined in the appended claims.
