[0023] Referring to FIG. 1, a game assembly 10 is depicted in a first game configuration 12. In the embodiment seen in FIG. 1, when the game assembly 10 is in the first game configuration 12, the game assembly 10 is configured for the games of ladderball and / or bottle smash. When the game assembly 10 is in the first game configuration 12, the frame 14 is in a first or generally vertical or upright position 16 and the leg assembly 18 is in a first configuration 20.

[0024] Referring to FIG. 2, the game assembly 10 is depicted in a second game configuration 22. When the game assembly 10 is in the second game configuration 22, the game assembly 10 is configured for the game of cornhole. When the game assembly 10 is in the second game configuration 22, the frame 14 is in a second or inclined position 24 and the leg assembly 18 is in a second configuration 26.

[0025] Referring to FIG. 3, the game assembly 10 is depicted in a third game configuration 28. When the game assembly 10 is in the third game configuration 28, the game assembly 10 is configured for storage or transportation. When the game assembly 10 is in the third game configuration 28, the frame 14 is in a third or generally horizontal or prone position 30 and the leg assembly 18 is in a third configuration 32.

[0026] While the game assembly 10 is shown as being convertible to three different configurations, the game assembly may have more or less configurations without defeating the spirit of the invention. While certain games are described and shown to be played when the game assembly 10 is in certain game configurations 12, 22, 28, other games could be played with such configurations or different configurations without defeating the spirit of the game. For example, when the game assembly 10 is in a third game configuration 28, another game could be played, such as washer toss as seen in FIG. 12.

[0027] The bottom layer 110 of the target 95 could include a number of fasteners 130 to selectively attach a washer toss cup 132 when the game assembly is in the third game configuration 28. In the embodiment seen in FIG. 12, the fasteners 130 are a plurality of hoop materials that attach to loop material fasteners 134 attached to the cup 132. The cup 132 can be a flat strip of material, such as plastic, for compact storage when not the cup is not used. The cup 132 is rolled into a cylinder when it is desired to use the cup and held in a cylindrical shape by the fasteners 130, 134 and / or by additional fasteners on each end of the strip of the cup to attach the two ends together. In some games, points are scored when a washer 136 lands in the cup 132.

[0028] In one embodiment, the leg assembly 18 can be changed between the three configurations 20, 26, 32 by rotating a first leg 34 and, in some configurations, rotating a second leg 36. In one embodiment seen in FIG. 1, the first leg 34 and the second leg 36 are adjacent the ground or perpendicular to or extended away from the frame 14.

[0029] In the embodiment seen in FIG. 2, the first leg 34 remains in the same position with respect to frame 14 as seen in FIG. 1, namely, extended away from the frame 14, but the second leg 36 is rotated or moved to a position in which it is parallel to or adjacent the frame 14.

[0030] In the embodiment seen in FIG. 3, the first leg 34 is rotated or moved to a position in which it is parallel to or adjacent the frame 14, while the second leg remains in the same position with respect to frame 14 as seen in FIG. 2, namely, generally parallel to the frame 14.

[0031] In one embodiment seen in FIG. 4, the leg assembly 18 includes first and second legs 34, 36 attached to the frame by a knob 38. The threaded bolt 40 of the knob 38 extends through a hole 42 formed in the first leg 34, a hole 44 formed in the second leg 36 and a threaded hole 46 in the frame 14. As the knob 38 is threaded further into the threaded hole 46 in the frame 14, the shoulder 48 of the knob 38 compresses the first leg 34 and second leg 36 against the frame 14 to hold the legs in position. When the knob 38 is tightened towards the frame 14, the angle of the first leg 34 and second leg 36 with respect to the frame 14 is prevented from being adjusted. To adjust the first leg 34 and / or the second leg 36, the knob 38 is loosened, the first leg 34 and / or the second leg 36 moved or rotated to a desired position and the knob 38 retightened.

[0032] In one embodiment seen in FIG. 5, the leg assembly 18 also includes a spring 50 located between the shoulder 48 of the knob and the second leg 36. The knob 38 is secured to the frame 14 such that the spring 50 exerts enough force on the second leg 36 and, thereby, the first leg 34 to hold the first and second legs in position against the frame 14. The amount of compressive force applied by the spring 50 to the first leg 34 and second leg 36 can be adjusted by the knob 38. For example, more compressive force is applied by the spring 50 by tightening the knob towards the frame 14 and less compressive force is applied by the spring 50 by loosening the knob away the frame 14.

[0033] To adjust the second leg 36, the second leg is moved towards to the shoulder 48 of the knob 38 and, thereby compresses the spring 50. The second leg 36 is then moved or rotated to a desired position and then moved back towards the first leg 34 where the spring 50 once again holds the first leg 34 and second leg 36 in position against the frame 14. To adjust the first leg 34, the second leg 36 and first leg 34 are moved towards to the shoulder 48 of the knob 38, thereby compressing the spring 50. The first leg 34 can then be moved or rotated to a desired position and the first leg 34 and second leg 36 are moved back towards the frame 14 where the spring 50 once again holds the first leg 34 and second leg 36 in position against the frame 14.

[0034] In the embodiment seen in FIGS. 5-6, the frame 14 includes a first key 52 that is received in a corresponding first slot 54 of the first leg 34. The first key 52 may be shaped and sized such that the first key can only fit into the first slot 54 when the first leg 34 is in a desired position, such as when the leg is in one of the first, second, or third configurations 20, 26, 32.

[0035] In FIGS. 5-6, the first key 52 is a raised cross pattern and the first slot 54 is a recessed cross pattern. The first key 52 can be selectively seated in the first slot 54 when the raised cross pattern of the first key 52 is received in the recessed cross pattern slot of the first slot 54. With reciprocal cross patterns, there are four positions or orientations the first leg 34 can be in with respect to the frame 14 in which the raised cross pattern of the first key 52 is received in the recessed cross pattern of the first slot 54. One or more of the four positions or orientations can correspond to the first leg 34 being in one or more desired configurations of the leg assembly 18. For example, when the first leg 34 is in a first orientation with respect to the frame 14, the first leg 34 is generally perpendicular to the frame 14 such that the first leg of the leg assembly 18 is in the first configuration 20. When the first leg is in a second orientation with respect to the frame 14, the first leg 34 is generally parallel to the frame such that the first leg of the leg assembly 18 is in the second configuration 26.

[0036] A second key 56 may be located on the second leg 36 that is received in a second slot or recess 58 located on a second side 60 of the first leg 34. In FIGS. 5-6, the second key 56 is a raised cross pattern and the second slot 58 is a recessed cross pattern. With reciprocal cross patterns, there are four positions the second leg 36 can be in with respect to the first leg 34 in which the second raised cross pattern key is received in the second recessed cross pattern slot. One or more of the four positions can correspond to the second leg being in one or more desired configurations of the leg assembly 18. For example, when the second leg 36 is in the first position with respect to the first leg 34 and the first leg is in the first position with respect to the frame 14, the leg assembly 18 is in the first configuration 20.

[0037] By way of another example, when the second leg 36 is in the first position with respect to the first leg 34 and the first leg is in the second position with respect to the frame 14, the leg assembly 18 is in the second configuration 26. And when the second leg 36 is in the second position with respect to the first leg 34 and the first leg is in the second position with respect to the frame 14, the leg assembly 18 is in the third configuration 32.

[0038] In one embodiment seen in FIGS. 5-6, the first key 52 is located in a recessed floor 62 of a frame hub 64. The first leg 34 includes a first leg hub 66. The first side 67 of the first leg hub 66 has an annular recess 68 sized to receive the frame hub 64 and a central raised platform 70 on which the first slot 54 is formed. The frame hub 64 and first leg hub 66 are configured such that when the first key 52 is withdrawn from the first slot 54, such as, for example, to change the position of the first leg 34, the frame hub 64 remains in the annular recess 68 to keep the first key 52 centered with the first slot 54 such that when the first leg 34 is rotated from one position to another position the first key 52 will be received into the first slot 54 by the urging from the spring 50.

[0039] The second side 73 of the first leg hub 66 has an annular recess 74 with a second recessed floor 76 in which the second slot 58 is formed. The second leg 36 has a second leg hub 78. The first side 79 of the second leg hub 78 has a raised central platform 80 on which the second key 56 is located. The annular recess 74 of the second side 73 of the first leg hub 66 receives the central platform 80 of the second leg hub 78. The annular recess 74 is sized just larger than the outer edges of the second key 56 so that as the second leg 36 is rotated with respect to the first leg 34, the central platform 80 remains inside the annular recess 74 and centered on the second key 56 such that when the second leg 36 is rotated to another position the second key 56 will be received into the second slot by the urging from the spring 50.

[0040] In the embodiment seen in FIG. 5, the second side 81 of the second leg hub 78 has a recess 82 formed therein. The recess 82 is sized to receive at least part of the spring 50.

[0041] Other shapes could be used without defeating the spirit of the invention. For example, a single line of the cross pattern or even half of the single bar such as a tab could be used for either of the keys 52, 56 with the recessed cross pattern or another slot shape. Or, by way of another example, if three positions were desired, a triangular shape could be used.

[0042] In an alternative embodiment seen in FIGS. 7-8, the frame hub 64 has a pair of first slots 54, 54’ that receive a first key 52 on a first side 67 of the first leg hub 66, in this embodiment shaped as a tab. The second side 73 of the first leg hub 66 has an annular recess 74 with a second recessed floor 76 in which a pair of second slots 58, 58’ are formed. The first side 79 of the second leg hub 78 has a raised central platform 80 on which the second key 56 is located, in this embodiment shaped as a tab. The pair of second slots 58, 58’ are sized to receive the second key 56.

[0043] When the first leg 34 is in the first position, the first key 52 will be in the first one of the pair of first slots 54. When the second leg 36 is in the first position, the second key 56 will be in the first one of the pair of second key slots 58 and the leg assembly 18 will be in the first configuration 20.

[0044] When the first leg 34 is in the first position, the first key 52 will be in the first one of the pair of first slots 54. When the second leg 36 is in the second position, the second key 56 will be in the second one of the pair of second key slots 58’ and the leg assembly 18 will be in the second configuration 26.

[0045] When the first leg 34 is in the second position, the first key 52 will be in the second one of the pair of first slots 54’. When the second leg 36 is in the second position, the second key 56 will be in the second one of the pair of second key slots 58’ and the leg assembly 18 will be in the third configuration 32.

[0046] Each leg may also have one or more feet that rest against the ground. In the embodiment seen in FIG. 1, the first leg 34 and second leg 36 have a first foot 84 that rests against the ground when the leg assembly 18 is in the first configuration 20 and the game assembly 10 is in the first game configuration 12.

[0047] The first leg 34 and / or second leg 36 may also have a second foot 86. In the embodiment seen in FIG. 2, the first leg 34 has a second foot 86 that rests against the ground when the leg assembly 18 is in the second configuration 26 and the game assembly 10 is in the second game configuration 22.

[0048] The feet 84, 86 may be configured to be at certain angles with respect to the first and second legs 34, 36 such that when the leg assembly 18 is in a certain configuration, the frame 14 of the game assembly 10 is at a desired angle or configuration for the game to be played. For example, in FIG. 2, the second foot 86 is an angle that is less than ninety degrees from the angle of the first foot 84 and the bottom side 88 of the first leg 34. This angle of the second foot 86 promotes the frame 14 to be in the correct angle for the game of bag toss or cornhole and allows most or all of the second foot to be in contact with the ground to provide better stability to the game assembly 10.

[0049] In one embodiment, the frame 14 is formed from a number of tubular poles attached to brackets. The frame 14 seen in FIG. 1 is formed by frame poles 90 attached to corner brackets 92 to form a rectangular shape. In one embodiment, the bottom corner brackets 92 include the frame hubs 64. In one embodiment, the brackets 92 have openings formed therein to receive one end of the frame poles 90.

[0050] One or more middle poles 94 can be added to the frame 14 for use when the game assembly 10 is in the first game configuration 12 to play the game of ladderball. In some games, points are scored when a ladderball 93 is suspended by a horizontal pole, such as the top frame pole 90 and middle poles 94. The middle poles 94 can increase support to and decrease the trampoline effect of the target 95 when the game assembly 10 is in the second configuration 26 to play the game of bag toss or cornhole.

[0051] In the embodiment seen in FIG. 1, each of the long sides of the frame 14 has middle brackets 96. The middle brackets 96 seen in FIG. 1 have a ‘T’ shape with each end of the ‘T’ shaped bracket having an opening sized to receive one end of a pole. Two of the openings are sized to receive one end of the frame poles 90 and one of the openings is sized to receive one end of a middle pole 94.

[0052] Although the frame 14 is shown in FIGS. 1-3 as formed from tubular poles attached to brackets, some or all of the poles and brackets could be integrally formed, without defeating the spirit of the invention.

[0053] In one embodiment, the frame 14 is made from a plastic material, such as polypropylene; however, other materials such carbon fiber, composites, metals, polyethylene, including high-density polyethylene and low-density polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate, among other plastic materials could be used without defeating the spirit of the invention.

[0054] The use of a plastic hollow body decreases the weight of the frame 14 providing for easier setup and take down, portability and storage. The decrease of the weight of the frame 14 allows for cost savings by using less materials and less shipping costs.

[0055] When the game assembly 10 is in the second game configuration 22, for example the frame 14 is in the inclined position 24 and the leg assembly is in the second configuration 26, as seen in FIG. 9, a target 95 can be attached to the frame to play the game of bag toss or cornhole. The target 95 includes straps 98 that are used to attach the target to the frame 14. In the embodiment seen in FIG. 9, the target 95 has a strap 98 at each corner. In one embodiment the strap 98 is made from a woven polyester elastic webbing material. However, other materials known in the industry, such as canvas, rubber, natural fiber, etc., could be used without defeating the spirit of the invention.

[0056] The end of the strap 98 includes a clip 100. As seen in FIG. 10, the clip 100 has a slot 102 sized to receive a tab 104 on the corner bracket 92. The target 95 is attached to the frame 14 by wrapping the strap around the top side of the corner bracket 92 to the underside and locating the tab 104 in the slot 102 of the clip. The straps 98 may be sized slightly smaller than the length required to locate the tab 104 in the slot 102 such that the strap 98 must stretch to do so. In stretching, additional tension is applied to the target 95 to more securely attach the target 95 to the frame 14.

[0057] In one embodiment, the corner brackets 92 include a groove 106 sized to receive the strap 98. The groove 106 helps prevent the strap 98 from sliding off of the bracket, such as, for example, when a bag lands on the target 95.

[0058] The target 95 seen in FIG. 9, can be made from a polyester fabric material. However, other materials known in the industry, such as woven or non-woven, nylon, vinyl, other plastic, natural fiber, etc., could be used without defeating the spirit of the invention.

[0059] In one embodiment, the target 95, includes a top layer 108, as seen in FIG. 9 and a bottom layer 110, as seen in FIG. 11, that are attached together such as by stitching, although others methods known in the industry could be used to attach two layers, such as, for example welding, glueing, fastening, etc., without defeating the spirit of the invention. In one embodiment, a number of compartments 112 are created between the first and second layers, for example the top layer 108 and a bottom layer 110, such as by stitching. Each of the compartments 112 holds an insert 114.

[0060] In one embodiment the inserts are made from a corrugated carboard with polypropylene wrap material. However, other materials known in the industry, such as cardboard, corrugated plastic, fiberglass, laminate board, metal, etc. could be used without defeating the spirit of the invention. The use of inserts 114 in compartments 112 reduces the bounce and trampoline effect when bags land on the target 95 and allows the game assembly 10 to play more like a traditional wood bag toss game.

[0061] The target 95 has a hole 116 formed therethrough sized to permit bags 118 to pass through. In some games, points are scored when a bag 118 passes through the hole 116 in the target 95. In one embodiment, the compartments 112 and inserts 114 are shaped to conform to the features of the target. For example, as seen in FIG. 9, the compartments 112 and inserts 114 on each side of the hole 116 have arcuate sides to allow room for the hole. Similarly, the compartments 112 and inserts 114 below the hole 116 have a small arcuate notch to allow room for the hole. In the embodiment seen in FIG. 9, the top and bottom compartments 112 and inserts 114 have angled corners that allows the straps 98 to be more accessible.

[0062] In the embodiment seen in FIG. 9, the compartments 112 of the target 95 are spaced from one another. The use of a bendable or foldable material for the top layer 108 and a bottom layer 110 and spacing between compartments allows the target 95 to be folded up like an accordion.

[0063] In one embodiment, the top corner brackets 92 can have a third opening sized to receive one end of an extension pole 120. A platform bracket 122 may have an opening to receive the other end of the extension pole 120. The platform bracket may also have a platform 124. When the game assembly 10 is in the first game configuration 12, for example the frame 14 is in the vertical position 16 and the leg assembly 18 is in the first configuration 20, as seen in FIG. 1, a bottle 126 may be placed on one or both of the platforms 124 to play the game of bottle smash. In some games, points are scored when an object, such as, for example, a flying disc 128 knocks a bottle 126 off of the platform 124.

[0064] Ine one embodiment seen in FIG. 2, the platform bracket 122 can be sized such that the platform 124 extends forward and when the game assembly 10 is in the second game configuration 22, for example the frame 14 is in the inclined position 24 and the leg assembly 18 is in the second configuration 26, the platform bracket 122 acts as a foot at the front of the frame and rests against the ground to hold the frame at the correct incline position to play the game of bag toss.

[0065] The ability to selectively connect the poles and connectors, such as, for example, poles 90, 94 and brackets 92, 96, and to fold the target 95, allows the game assembly 10 to be more easily moved and stored when not in use because the frame 14 and target 95 take up less space when the pieces of the frame 14 are selectively disconnected and the target 95 is disconnected from the frame and folded up. This allows the game assembly 10 to be stored in a more compact manner that takes up less space for storage, but also requires less space and less packaging during shipping both in the manufacturing phase and also when being sent to customers. This allows for cost savings in shipping costs and packaging costs. The smaller size of the game assembly when packaged also permits more units to be located at a distribution center in the same amount of space the assemblies for each of the individual games would require as well as shelf space at brick and motor stores.

[0066] Although the invention has been herein described in what is perceived to be the most practical and preferred embodiments, it is to be understood that the invention is not intended to be limited to the specific embodiments set forth above. Rather, it is recognized that modifications may be made by one of skill in the art of the invention without departing from the spirit or intent of the invention and, therefore, the invention is to be taken as including all reasonable equivalents to the subject matter of the appended claims and the description of the invention herein.
