Abstract
Description
CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0001] This application claims the benefit of priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 63 / 790,274, filed Apr. 17, 2025, for DOSAGE PACKAGING SYSTEM, incorporated herein by reference.FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0002] The present invention relates to the field of packaging systems. More specifically, this disclosure relates to a dosage packaging system that includes a housing and a lid. The housing includes a plurality of cavities for storing products in desired dosages. The lid seals the cavities to maintain product freshness, prevent cross-contamination, and maintain the desired dosage of a product in each cavity. The invention provides an accessible and secure packaging system that provides users with pre-measured, standardized doses of a desired product. It is designed for use with medicinal, pharmaceutical, and other therapeutic preparations, including lawful cannabis- and cannabis-derived compounds. The invention is designed for use with products across a wide range of viscosities.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0003] Cannabis concentrates are produced through various extraction processes that separate cannabinoid and non-cannabinoid (e.g., terpenes) compounds from cannabis plant material, resulting in highly concentrated and potent cannabis products. In the current market, cannabis concentrates are generally purchased and sold in single-gram quantities without dosing instructions. Due the potent nature of cannabis concentrates, an individual typically consumes only a fraction of a gram in a single sitting. Thus, users are left to determine their desired or prescribed dose and to separate such dose from the single-gram quantity, typically by using a small tool or spoon. Given the lack of dosing instructions and guidance, users can easily under- or overdose cannabis concentrate, resulting in a lack of intended therapeutic effect and / or unintended health consequences and side effects. Further, separating and weighing a desired or prescribed dose from the single-gram quantity can be difficult and time consuming. For these reasons, cannabis concentrates can be intimidating for both medical and recreational users.
[0004] A need exists for a new dosage packaging system that eliminates the time consuming and inaccurate nature of self-dosing and provides users with pre-measured doses that users can consume without having to separate and weigh cannabis concentrate from a single gram quantity.SUMMARY
[0005] The present invention addresses these and other needs by providing a dosage packaging system that provides users with individual units or doses of a desired product. The dosage packaging system includes a housing and a lid. The housing includes a plurality of cavities for storing products in desired or prescribed dosages. The lid seals the cavities to maintain product freshness, prevent cross-contamination, and maintain the desired dosage of each product in each cavity. The invention provides a more accessible and secure packaging system that provides users with pre-measured, standardized doses of a desired product. It is designed for use with medicinal, pharmaceutical, and other therapeutic preparations, including, cannabis- and cannabis-derived compounds. The invention is designed for use with products across a wide range of viscosities.

[0052] A first embodiment of the present invention includes a dosage packaging system 10 including a housing 12 and a lid 14. Referring now to FIGS. 1-11, the housing 12 includes at least one housing sidewall 16 and a housing bottom 18. In the depicted embodiment, the housing 12 includes four sidewalls and rounded corners. The housing 12 further includes an internal region 20 that descends towards the housing bottom 18 from the at least one sidewall 16. The internal region 20 includes a plurality of cavities 22 that descend toward the housing bottom 18. Each cavity 22 includes a plurality of cavity sidewalls 24 and a cavity bottom 26. In some embodiments, the plurality of cavities 22 are integral to the housing 12. Each cavity 22 may hold a single dose of a product, allowing users to dose the desired product by removing and consuming the product from a single cavity. For example, cannabis concentrates are often consumed in 0.1 gram doses. Thus, cannabis concentrate producers can use the dosage packaging system 10 to divide cannabis concentrate into a plurality of pre-measured doses that allow cannabis users access to a consistent dose, eliminating the need to separate and weigh a desired or prescribed dose from a single-gram quantity. In the depicted embodiment, the cavities 22 are sized to accept a volume of concentrate approximately equal to 0.1 grams of concentrate. In different embodiments, the cavities 22 may have different widths and / or depths to accommodate smaller or larger doses. In the depicted embodiment, the plurality of cavity sidewalls 24 are sloped such that they taper towards the cavity bottom 26. The sloped cavity sidewalls 24 allow users easier access to and removal of the stored contents. Users may remove the stored contents using a small tool (e.g., dab tool, scoop, spoon, etc.). In some embodiments, the plurality of cavities 22 have rounded corners to reduce product accumulation in each cavity, thereby reducing overall product waste.
[0053] The lid 14 includes a lid top 28, a lid bottom 30, and a plurality of lid sidewalls 32 extending between the lid top 28 and the lid bottom 30. The lid top 28 further includes a lip 34 that extends beyond the lid sidewalls 32. In the depicted embodiment, the plurality of lid sidewalls 32 are contoured to match the contour of the plurality of housing sidewalls 16. The lid 14 can be removably coupled to the housing 12 to seal the contents stored in the cavities 22. A user can remove the lid 14 to access the contents stored in the cavities 22 and replace the lid 14 once the user has removed the desired or prescribed dose. When the lid 14 is coupled to the housing 12, the lid bottom 30 abuts the plurality of cavities 22, thereby sealing each cavity 22. The lid bottom 30 prevents product from migrating out of each cavity 22 and into nearby cavities 22 or the internal region 20. The lid 14 also maintains product freshness by sealing the contents of each cavity 22 and minimizing content exposure to air and moisture.
[0054] A second embodiment of the present invention includes a dosage packaging system 110 including a housing 112 and a lid 114. Referring to FIGS. 12-27, the housing 112 includes at least one housing sidewall. The top 124 includes a plurality of cavities 130. Each cavity 130 includes at least one cavity sidewall 132 and a cavity bottom 134. Each cavity 130 may hold a single dose of a desired product, allowing users to dose the desired product by removing and consuming the product from a single cavity. For example, cannabis concentrates are often consumed in 0.1 gram doses. Thus, cannabis concentrate producers can use the dosage packaging system 110 to divide cannabis concentrate into a plurality of pre-measured doses that allow cannabis users access to a consistent dose, thus eliminating the need to separate and weigh a desired or prescribed dose from a singe-gram quantity. In the depicted embodiment, the cavities 130 are sized to accept a volume of concentrate approximately equal to 0.1 grams of concentrate. In different embodiments, the cavities 130 may have different widths and / or depths to accommodate smaller or larger doses. In the depicted embodiment, the cavity sidewall 132 is sloped such that it tapers towards the cavity bottom 134. In the depicted embodiment, the cavities 130 have rounded corners to reduce product accumulation in each cavity, thereby reducing overall product waste. In the depicted embodiment, the cavities 130 have an elongated shape with opposing rounded ends. In different, embodiments, the cavities 130 may have different shapes to accommodate different tools that a user may use to remove product from the cavities 130.
[0055] The housing sides 122 further include a pair of recessed channels 136. In the depicted embodiment, each side 122 includes a recessed channel 136 extending from the back 120 towards the front 118. The channels 136 are substantially parallel to one another and are disposed at a common elevation relative to the top 124. Each channel 136 is configured to receive a corresponding rail 140 of the lid 114, so as to permit the rails 140 to be advanced into the channels 136. In the depicted embodiment, each channel 136 terminates short of the front 118 such that a stop 138 is defined within the channel 136 and is configured to abut the rails 140 of the lid 114 when the lid 114 is in a fully closed position.

The rails are configured to be received in the channels 136 of the housing 112. In the depicted embodiment, the lid top 142 extends in a direction opposite the back 146 such that the lid top 142 defines an overhang 150. The overhang 150 includes a flange 152 extending from a forward edge 154 of the overhang 150 and is configured to engage the front 118 of the housing 112 when the lid 114 is in a fully closed position. In a fully closed position, the flange 152 bears against the front 118 of the housing 112 to resist opening of the lid 114.
[0057] A user can removably couple the lid 114 to the housing 112 by aligning the rails 140 of the lid 114 with the channels 136 of the housing 112, inserting the rails 140 of the lid 114 into the channels 136 of the housing 112, and advancing the lid 114 toward the front 118 of the housing 112. As the lid 114 advances over the top 124 of the housing 112, the lid top 148 progressively covers an increasing portion of the top 124 and the cavities 130 included therein. The user may continue to advance the rails 140 along the channels 136 until the rails 140 contact the stops 138 and the flange 152 engages the front 118 of the housing 112, at which point the lid 114 is in a fully closed position. To remove the lid 114 from the housing 112, a user can disengage the flange 152 from the front 118 and slide the rails 140 of the lid 114 rearwardly along the channels 136 until the rails 140 clear the channels 136, whereupon the lid 114 may be lifted away from the housing 112. A user can remove the lid 114 from the housing 112 to access the contents stored in the cavities 130 and replace the lid 114 once the user has removed the desired or prescribed dose of the product stored in a cavity 130. When the lid 114 is coupled to the housing 112, the lid top 142 contacts the top surface 126 of the top 124, thereby sealing each cavity 130. The lid 114 prevents product from migrating out of each cavity 130 and into nearby cavities 130. The lid 114 also maintains product freshness by sealing the contents of each cavity 130 and minimizing content exposure to air and moisture.
[0058] A third embodiment of the present invention includes a dosage packaging system 210 including a housing 212 and a lid 214. Referring to FIGS. 28-39, the housing 212 includes a at least one housing sidewall. In the depicted embodiment, the housing 212 includes a front 218, a back 220, and two sides 222. Each cavity 230 may hold a single dose of a desired product, allowing users to dose the desired product by removing and consuming the product from a single cavity. For example, cannabis concentrates are often consumed in 0.1 gram doses. Thus, cannabis concentrate producers can use the dosage packaging system 210 to divide cannabis concentrate into a plurality of pre-measured doses that allow cannabis users access to a consistent dose, thus eliminating the need to separate and weigh a desired or prescribed dose from a single gram quantity. In the depicted embodiment, the cavities 230 are sized to accept a volume of concentrate approximately equal to 0.1 grams of concentrate. In different embodiments, the cavities 230 may have different widths and / or depths to accommodate smaller or larger doses. In the depicted embodiment, the cavity sidewall 232 is sloped such that it tapers towards the cavity bottom 234. In the depicted embodiment, the cavities 230 have rounded corners to reduce product accumulation in each cavity, thereby reducing product waste. In the depicted embodiment, the cavities 230 have an elongated shape with opposing rounded ends. In different embodiments, the cavities 230 may have different shapes to accommodate different tools that a user may use to remove product from the cavities 230.
[0059] The sides 222 of the housing 212 further include a pair of recessed channels 236.
