Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION1. Technical Field

[0001] The present invention relates to the technical field of crossbows. More particularly, the invention relates to a device for drawing and releasing a bowstring safely.2. Description of Related Art

[0002] As can be known from Taiwan Patent No. 207344, a conventional crossbow structure includes a crossbow stock, a pair of crossbow limbs provided transversely at the front end of the crossbow stock, a bowstring connecting the outer ends of the crossbow limbs, and a crossbow mechanism box provided on the crossbow stock to interact with the bowstring.

[0003] To operate a crossbow, i.e., to shoot with the crossbow, the user pulls the bowstring to the cocked position by exerting a force to the bowstring, then loads the crossbow with an arrow, and then fires the arrow. If the bowstring is pulled only with the strength of the user’s arm, the user’s arm strength will be expended considerably.

[0004] To overcome this shortcoming, a string pulling mechanism was proposed in, for example, US Patent No. 10948257 and US Patent No. 11913752. The structure of the string pulling mechanism generally includes a string hooking device, a string reeling device, and a crank handle. With the string hooking device hooked to the bowstring, the user rotates the crank handle, which is connected to the string reeling device, in order to drive the string reeling device to reel in the pull cords at two ends of the string hooking device, thereby drawing the bowstring to the cocked position.

[0005] While the afore-cited patents have provided teachings for the string pulling mechanism, the components of the mechanism are overly complicated, which is disadvantageous to both production and maintenance. Therefore, the existing string pulling mechanism needs improvement.BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] In view of, and to overcome, the aforesaid problems and drawbacks of the prior art, it is an objective of the present invention to provide, through structural innovation, a device for drawing and releasing a bowstring safely.

[0007] To achieve the foregoing objective, the present invention provides a device for drawing and releasing a bowstring safely. The device, to be provided on a crossbow stock to reel in and out the pull cords at two ends of a string hooking device, includes a supporting frame, a clutching female member, a brake unit, a clutching male assembly, a transmission shaft, a brake pad, an arresting base, an arresting collar, a mounting bush, a push-lever ring assembly, a driven shaft, a plurality of reeling wheels, a gear, and a reeling handle. The clutching female member, the clutching male assembly, and the brake unit are mounted together and then mounted on the supporting frame in order to be penetrated by one end of the transmission shaft. The arresting base is connected to the arresting collar and the mounting bush at one end and is connected to the transmission shaft at the other end along with the brake pad. The driven shaft is connected to the reeling wheels and the gear and then pivotally provided on the supporting frame so as to be moved by, or move, the transmission shaft. The reeling handle is selectively connected to the mounting bush at one end in order to drive the transmission shaft. The foregoing components make it possible for a user to apply tension to a bowstring in a relatively effortless manner and, when the tension applied to the bowstring is removed, for the kinetic energy of the bowstring to be slowly released to ensure safety.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWINGS

[0026] One embodiment of the device of the present invention for drawing and releasing a bowstring safely is described below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which the different parts of the embodiment are not necessarily drawn to scale but are drawn in such a way that their proportions, sizes, deformations, and / or displacements are intended to facilitate description. Moreover, identical or symmetrically disposed components of the embodiment are designated by the same reference numeral. In addition, direction-related terms that are used in relation to the embodiment such as “front,”“rear,”“left,”“right,”“upper,”“lower,”“inner,” and “outer” make reference to the directions shown in the corresponding specified drawing(s) and should not be construed as restrictive of the invention.

[0027] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 18, the device of the present invention for drawing and releasing a bowstring safely is selectively mounted on a crossbow stock A to reel in and out the pull cords B1 at two ends of a string hooking device B and includes a supporting frame 11, a clutching female member 12, a brake unit 13, a clutching male assembly 20, a transmission shaft 30, a brake pad 14, an arresting base 15, an arresting collar 16, a mounting bush 40, a push-lever ring assembly 50, a driven shaft 17, two reeling wheels 171, a gear 18, a coil spring 19, a reeling handle 60, a left cover 70, and a right cover 80.

[0028] As shown in FIGS. 9, 10, and 13, the supporting frame 11 includes a left frame 112 and a right frame 114 that are adjacent to each other and connected together.

[0029] The left frame 112 has a left-frame upper shaft hole 1121 and a left-frame lower shaft hole 1122.

[0030] The left-frame upper shaft hole 1121 penetrates the left frame 112. In practice, the left-frame upper shaft hole 1121 is fitted therein with a first bush C1.

[0031] As shown in FIG. 10, the left-frame lower shaft hole 1122 penetrates the left frame 112, and the hole wall of the left-frame lower shaft hole 1122 has, sequentially in the shaft direction of the left-frame lower shaft hole 1122, a multi-angular section 1122B and a stop wall 1122A that are adjacent to each other.

[0032] The right frame 114 has a right-frame upper shaft hole 1141 and a right-frame lower shaft hole 1142.

[0033] The right-frame upper shaft hole 1141 penetrates the right frame 114 and is concentric with the left-frame upper shaft hole 1121. In practice, the right-frame upper shaft hole 1141 is fitted therein with a second bush C2.

[0034] The right-frame lower shaft hole 1142 penetrates the right frame 114 and is concentric with the left-frame lower shaft hole 1122. In practice, the right-frame lower shaft hole 1142 is fitted therein with a bearing C3.

[0035] As shown in FIGS. 8, 9, 10, 13, and 14, the clutching female member 12 is mounted in the left-frame lower shaft hole 1122 and has a female-member hole 121 penetrating the clutching female member 12. The hole wall of the female-member hole 121 has a plurality of wedge sections 1211. In practice, as shown in FIG. 14, the two ends of each wedge section 1211 are a high-level end 1211A and a low-level end 1211B. The high-level ends 1211A and the low-level ends 1211B enable the provision of passage-allowing spaces of difference sizes.

[0036] As shown in FIGS. 9 and 10, the brake unit 13 is movably inserted in the female-member hole 121 of the clutching female member 12 and has a brake-unit shaft hole 131 that penetrates the brake unit 13. The brake unit 13 further includes a clutching shaft 132 and a braking plate 133, each provided at one of two opposite ends of the brake unit 13.

[0037] The clutching shaft 132 extends through the female-member hole 121 of the clutching female member 12.

[0038] The braking plate 133 abuts against one side of the clutching female member 12.

[0039] As shown in FIGS. 8, 9, 10, 13, and 14, the clutching male assembly 20 is movably inserted in the female-member hole 121, selectively performs a clutch operation in conjunction with the clutching female member 12, and includes a clutching male member 21 and a plurality of needle rollers 22.

[0040] The clutching male member 21 has a male-member hole 211, a large-diameter section 212, and a small-diameter section 213.

[0041] The male-member hole 211 penetrates the clutching male member 21.

[0042] The large-diameter section 212 and the small-diameter section 213 are formed at the outer periphery of the clutching male member 21 and are each located at one of the two ends of the clutching male member 21 in the extending direction thereof.

[0043] The outer surface of the large-diameter section 212 is provided with a plurality of engaging grooves 2121 in a recessed manner, and one side of the large-diameter section 212 abuts against one side of the clutching female member 12 to limit axial movement of the clutching male member 21.

[0044] The small-diameter section 213 is formed with and penetrated by a plurality of through slots 2131.

[0045] The needle rollers 22 are disposed in such a way that each needle roller 22 is in, and extends along, one of the through slots 2131 and lies on the outer periphery of the clutching shaft 132 of the brake unit 13.

[0046] In practice, each needle roller 22 can be pushed by the clutching male member 21 to move along the corresponding wedge section 1211 of the clutching female member 12. When each needle roller 22 has been moved to the low-level end 1211B of the corresponding wedge sections 1211, the clutching male assembly 20 and the clutching female member 12 are in a relaxed state together with the brake unit 13 (or more particularly the clutching shaft 132). When each needle roller 22 has been moved to the high-level end 1211A of the corresponding wedge section 1211, the clutching male assembly 20 and the clutching female member 12 are in a tightly pressed state together with the brake unit 13 (or more particularly the clutching shaft 132).

[0047] As shown in FIGS. 7, 8, 9, and 13, the transmission shaft 30 has a shaft body 31, a shaft-body gear 32, and a pushing block 33.

[0048] One end of the shaft body 31 is movably inserted through the brake unit 13 (or more particularly the brake-unit shaft hole 131) and then extends out of the left frame 112. The other end of the shaft body 31 is pivotally connected in the right-frame lower shaft hole 1142.

[0049] The shaft-body gear 32 is provided at one end, and on the outer periphery, of the shaft body 31 and is disposed between the left and right frames 112 and 114.

[0050] The pushing block 33 extends through the shaft body 31 along a radial direction thereof and is thus mounted to the shaft body 31. The pushing block 33 is disposed at the end of the shaft body 31 that is far from the shaft-body gear 32, and the pushing block 33 is located outside the supporting frame 11.

[0051] As shown in FIGS. 3, 9, and 10, the brake pad 14 has a brake-pad shaft hole 141 penetrating the brake pad 14, and the transmission shaft 30 is movably inserted through the brake-pad shaft hole 141. In addition, the brake pad 14 is so disposed that it corresponds to the braking plate 133.

[0052] As shown in FIGS. 9 to 12, the arresting base 15 is mounted at and around a terminal end of the transmission shaft 30 and can be rotated, and moved in a reciprocating manner, by the transmission shaft 30. The arresting base 15 has an arresting shaft 151 provided at one end and an arresting plate 152 provided at the other end. The arresting base 15 further includes an arresting-base locking hole 153 penetrating the arresting base 15.

[0053] A portion of the arresting shaft 151 has a polygonal outer contour. A slanting through slot 1511 penetrates the arresting shaft 151 along a radial direction thereof (see FIGS. 11 and 12) so that the pushing block 33 of the transmission shaft 30 can extend into the slanting through slot 1511.

[0054] The arresting plate 152 selectively abuts against the brake pad 14.

[0055] The arresting-base locking hole 153 has a large-hole section 1531 at one end and a small-hole section 1532 at the other end. The terminal end of the transmission shaft 30 is inserted in and connected to the large-hole section 1531 in order for the transmission shaft 30 to move, or be moved by, the arresting base 15.

[0056] The arresting collar 16 is placed around the outer periphery of the arresting shaft 151 to close the openings of the slanting through slot 1511, or more particularly the two opposite openings through which the slanting through slot 1511 can otherwise communicate with the outside.

[0057] As shown in FIGS. 3, 7, 9, and 10, the mounting bush 40 is mounted around and connected to the outer periphery of the arresting shaft 151 of the arresting base 15 so as to move, or be moved by, the arresting shaft 151. The mounting bush 40 has a plurality of mounting holes 41 and a fitting groove 42. In practice, the mounting bush 40 is locked in place by a locking element that is passed through the mounting bush 40 and then locked in the small-hole section 1532 of the arresting-base locking hole 153.

[0058] The mounting holes 41 are provided in a recessed manner in the end face of the mounting bush 40 that is far from the arresting shaft 151.

[0059] The fitting groove 42 is adjacent to the mounting holes 41 and is provided in a predetermined end face of the mounting bush 40 in a recessed manner. A portion of the groove wall of the fitting groove 42 is provided with at least one fitting section 421 in a recessed manner.

[0060] As shown in FIGS. 8, 9, and 13, the push-lever ring assembly 50 is mounted around the outer periphery of the large-diameter section 212 of the clutching male member 21 and in normal circumstances tends to move the clutching male assembly 20 in a direction leading to the tightly pressed state. The push-lever ring assembly 50 includes a push-lever ring 51 and a tension spring 52.

[0061] The push-lever ring 51 has a push-lever ring hole 511 at one end and a push lever 512 at the other end. The push-lever ring hole 511 penetrates the push-lever ring 51, and the push-lever ring 51 is mounted around the outer periphery of the large-diameter section 212 of the clutching male member 21. The hole wall of the push-lever ring hole 511 has a plurality of engaging ribs 511A each matching one of the engaging grooves 2121. The push lever 512 has a free end extending out of the supporting frame 11.

[0062] The tension spring 52 is connected to the push lever 512 at one end and is connected to the left frame 112 at the other end.

[0063] As shown in FIGS. 3 and 7 to 10, the driven shaft 17 extends through the left-frame upper shaft hole 1121 of the left frame 112 and the right-frame upper shaft hole 1141 of the right frame 114 and is then pivotally connected to the supporting frame 11.

[0064] The reeling wheels 171 are each mounted at one of the two terminal ends of the driven shaft 17, are disposed outside the supporting frame 11, and work together to reel in and out the pull cords B1 at the two ends of the string hooking device B.

[0065] The gear 18 is provided in the supporting frame 11 in a matching manner, is mounted on the periphery of the driven shaft 17, and meshes with the shaft-body gear 32 in order to interact with the shaft-body gear 32.

[0066] As shown in FIGS. 3, 7, 9, and 13,the coil spring 19 is mounted around the periphery of the driven shaft 17, is connected to the gear 18 at one end, and is connected to the right frame 114 at the other end.

[0067] As shown in FIGS. 1 to 4, one end of the reeling handle 60 corresponds to and is selectively connected (by way of insertion) to the mounting holes 41 and the fitting groove 42 of the mounting bush 40, in order for the reeling handle 60 to drive the mounting bush 40 into rotation. The reeling handle 60 has a plurality of insertion posts 61 and a fitting post 62.

[0068] Each insertion post 61 corresponds to, and is selectively inserted into, one of the mounting holes 41 of the mounting bush 40.

[0069] The fitting post 62 corresponds to, and is selectively inserted into, the fitting groove 42 of the mounting bush 40. The fitting post 62 has at least one outwardly extending fitting plate 621 that matches, and is selectively fitted into, the fitting section 421.

[0070] As shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 and 5 to 7, the left cover 70 is mounted on the left side of the supporting frame 11 and has a left cord opening 71 and a left-cover shaft hole 72.

[0071] The left cord opening 71 penetrates one side of the left cover 70, matches a predetermined one of the reeling wheels 171 in position, and allows passage of the matching pull cord B1.

[0072] The left-cover shaft hole 72 matches the mounting bush 40 in position, penetrates one side of the left cover 70, and allows insertion of the mounting bush 40.

[0073] As shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 and 5 to 7, the right cover 80 is mounted on the right side of the supporting frame 11 and has a right cord opening 81.

[0074] The right cord opening 81 penetrates one side of the right cover 80, matches a predetermined one of the reeling wheels 171 in position, and allows passage of the matching pull cord B1.

[0075] Having detailed the components and assembly method of a preferred embodiment of the device of the present invention for drawing and releasing a bowstring safely, the present specification continues to describe the features of how the embodiment works.

[0076] In normal circumstances

[0077] Referring to FIG. 1, the pull cords B1 at the two ends of the string hooking device B are wound around the outer peripheries of their respective reeling wheels 171 to bring the string hooking device B close to the supporting frame 11. As the push-lever ring assembly 50 normally tends to move the clutching male assembly 20 in a direction leading to the tightly pressed state, as shown in FIGS. 14 and 15, the clutching female member 12 and the clutching male assembly 20 end up in the tightly pressed state together with the brake unit 13 (or more particularly the clutching shaft 132).

[0078] During the process, the push-lever ring 51 is pulled and turned by the tension spring 52 and thus moves the clutching male member 21 and the needle rollers 22 in such a way that each needle roller 22 is moved to the high-level end 1211A of the corresponding wedge section 1211 of the clutching female member 12 to press tightly against the clutching shaft 132 of the brake unit 13 and the hole wall of the female-member hole 121 of the clutching female member 12, thereby limiting movement of the brake unit 13, of the clutching male assembly 20, and of the clutching female member 12 simultaneously.

[0079] To release the pull cords B1 at the two ends of the string hooking device B or to release bowstring tension

[0080] Referring to FIGS. 2, 3, and 15, the string hooking device B is pulled in a direction away from the supporting frame 11 such that the pull cords B1 at the two ends of the string hooking device B are released from the reeling wheels 171, and each reeling wheel 171 is thus driven to spin. The force with which the string hooking device B is pulled may be a pulling force manually exerted by the user or the tension released by the bowstring (not shown) of a crossbow using the device of the present invention (with the string hooking device B hooked to the bowstring, and the bowstring releasing its tension when the crossbow is fired).

[0081] When the reeling wheels 171 spin in response to the release of the pull cords B1, the driven shaft 17, to which the reeling wheels 171 are connected, is driven by the reeling wheels 171 to spin the gear 18, which is connected to the driven shaft 17.

[0082] While the gear 18 is spinning, the shaft-body gear 32, which meshes with the gear 18, is driven by the gear 18 to spin the transmission shaft 30, to which the shaft-body gear 32 is connected, resulting in a rotary motion of the pushing block 33 of the transmission shaft 30.

[0083] As shown in FIGS. 15 and 16, the pushing block 33 extends into the slanting through slot 1511 of the arresting shaft 151 (of the arresting base 15) and therefore moves along the slope of the slanting through slot 1511 when rotated. The pushing block 33 pushes the arresting base 15 toward the brake unit 13 while moving slantingly along the slanting through slot 1511. As a result, the brake pad 14 is clamped jointly by the arresting base 15 (or more particularly the arresting plate 152) and the brake unit 13 (or more particularly the braking plate 133) (see FIG. 16).

[0084] The clutching male assembly 20 and the clutching female member 12 are normally in the tightly pressed state together with the brake unit 13 (or more particularly the clutching shaft 132) (see FIG. 14), so the brake unit 13 is stationary. As the transmission shaft 30 continues spinning the arresting base 15 via the slanting through slot 1511, resistance is created by the arresting base 15 (or more particularly the arresting plate 152) and the brake unit 13 (or more particularly the braking plate 133) jointly clamping the brake pad 14. The resistance eventually stops the arresting base 15 from spinning and thus brings the transmission shaft 30 to a halt.

[0085] In this state, the pull cords B1 at the two ends of the string hooking device B can no longer be released by way of the string hooking device B. The tightly pressed state must be terminated by operating the push-lever ring assembly 50, before the pull cords B1 can be further released.

[0086] To terminate the tightly pressed state, referring to FIGS. 15 to 18, the user turns the push-lever ring 51 to store energy in the tension spring 52. When the push-lever ring 51 is turned, the clutching male member 21 is driven by the push-lever ring 51 to move each needle roller 22 to the low-level end 1211B of the corresponding wedge section 1211 of the clutching female member 12. In consequence, the clutching male assembly 20 and the clutching female member 12 are brought into the relaxed state together with the brake unit 13 (or more particularly the clutching shaft 132).

[0087] In this state, the frictional resistance created by the arresting base 15 (or more particularly the arresting plate 152) and the brake unit 13 (or more particularly the braking plate 133) jointly clamping the brake pad 14 is the only force that can stop the transmission shaft 30, so the pull cords B1 at the two ends of the string hooking device B can be reeled out, but only slowly. Thus, the objective of releasing bowstring tension slowly or dry-firing safely is achieved.

[0088] To bring the bowstring to the cocked position

[0089] When it is desired to bring the bowstring to the cocked position, the user follows the foregoing steps to pull out the string hooking device B and hook the string hooking device B to the bowstring. Then, the reeling handle 60 is rotated to spin the mounting bush 40, to which the reeling handle 60 is connected by insertion, and consequently the transmission shaft 30. The shaft-body gear 32 and pushing block 33 on the transmission shaft 30 are spun as a result.

[0090] The pushing block 33, which extends into the slanting through slot 1511 of the arresting shaft 151 (of the arresting base 15), pushes the slot wall of the slanting through slot 1511 when spun, and due to the slant direction of the slanting through slot 1511, the arresting base 15 is displaced in a direction away from the brake unit 13.

[0091] In addition, when the shaft-body gear 32 is spun, the gear 18, which meshes with the shaft-body gear 32, is driven by the shaft-body gear 32 to spin the driven shaft 17, in order for the reeling wheels 171, which are connected to the two ends of the driven shaft 17, to jointly reel in the pull cords B1 at the two ends of the string hooking device B, and in turn for the string hooking device B to pull the bowstring until the bowstring reaches the cocked position.

[0092] The description given above is directed to only a preferred mode of implementing the present invention and is intended to disclose the features of the invention clearly but not to limit the scope of the invention. Any equivalent changes made by a person of ordinary skill in the art according to the invention and changes well known to such a person shall fall within the scope of the invention.
