Abstract

A new and distinct cultivar of Poinsettia plant named ‘LAZZPOGENA’, characterized by its upright and broad “V”-shaped and uniformly mounding plant habit; moderately vigorous growth habit; short internodes; freely branching habit and strong stems; dark green-colored leaves; full inflorescences with pale yellow and purplish pink bi-colored flower bracts; and excellent post-production longevity.

[0001] Botanical designation: Euphorbia pulcherrima Willd.

[0002] Cultivar denomination: ‘LAZZPOGENA’.CROSS-REFERENCED TO CLOSELY-RELATED APPLICATIONS

[0003] A European Community Plant Breeder's Rights application for the instant plant was filed by the Applicant / Assignee of the instant application, Lazzeri Genetica S.A.S. di Dallago Franco & C. of Merano, Italy on Sep. 29, 2025, application number 2025 / 2053. Foreign priority is not claimed to this application.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0004] The present invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar of Poinsettia plant, botanically known as Euphorbia pulcherrima Willd. and hereinafter referred to by the name ‘LAZZPOGENA’.

[0005] The new Poinsettia plant is a naturally-occurring branch mutation of Euphorbia pulcherrima Willd. ‘Allegra Art Deco’, not patented. The new Poinsettia plant was discovered and selected by the Inventor on a single flowering plant from a population of plants of ‘Allegra Art Deco’ in a controlled greenhouse environment in Sabaudia, Italy in November, 2023.

[0006] Asexual reproduction of the new Poinsettia plant by terminal vegetative cuttings in a controlled greenhouse environment in Sabaudia, Italy since July, 2024 has shown that the unique features of this new Poinsettia plant are stable and reproduced true to type in successive generations of asexual reproduction.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0007] Plants of the new Poinsettia have not been observed under all possible combinations of environmental conditions and cultural practices. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environmental conditions such as temperature, daylength and light intensity, without, however, any variance in genotype.

[0008] The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘LAZZPOGENA’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘LAZZPOGENA’ as a new and distinct Poinsettia plant:

[0009] 1. Upright and broad “V”-shaped and uniformly mounding plant habit.

[0010] 2. Moderately vigorous growth habit.

[0011] 3. Short internodes.

[0012] 4. Freely branching habit and strong stems.

[0013] 5. Dark green-colored leaves.

[0014] 6. Full inflorescences with pale yellow and purplish pink bi-colored flower bracts.

[0015] 7. Excellent post-production longevity.

[0016] Plants of the new Poinsettia can be compared to plants of the mutation parent, ‘Allegra Art Deco’. Plants of the new Poinsettia differ primarily from plants of ‘Allegra Art Deco’ in flower bract color as flower bracts of plants of the new Poinsettia are pale yellow and purplish pink bi-colored whereas flower bracts of plants of ‘Allegra Art Deco’ are dark red and red bi-colored. In addition, plants of the new Poinsettia flower have shorter internodes than plants of ‘Allegra Art Deco’.

[0017] Plants of the new Poinsettia can be compared to plants of Euphorbia pulcherrima Willd. ‘Superba Marble Impr.’, not patented. In side-by-side comparisons, plants of the new Poinsettia differ primarily from plants of ‘Superba Marble Impr.’ in the following characteristics:

[0018] 1. Plants of the new Poinsettia are more broader than plants of ‘Superba Marble Impr.’.

[0019] 2. Plants of the new Poinsettia are less vigorous than plants of ‘Superba Marble Impr.’.

[0020] 3. Leaves of plants of the new Poinsettia are lobes whereas leaves of plants of ‘Superba Marble Impr.’ are serrate.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPH

[0021] The accompanying photograph illustrates the overall appearance of the new Poinsettia plant showing the colors as true as it is reasonably possible to obtain in colored reproductions of this type. Colors in the photograph may differ slightly from the color values cited in the detailed botanical description which accurately describe the colors of the new Poinsettia plant. The photograph is a side perspective view of a typical flowering plant of ‘LAZZPOGENA’ grown in a container.DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION

[0022] The aforementioned photograph and following observations and measurements describe plants grown during the winter in 14-cm containers in a glass-covered greenhouse in Sabaudia, Italy and under cultural practices typical of commercial Poinsettia production. During the production of the plants, day temperatures averaged 28° C., night temperatures averaged 22° C. and light levels averaged 300 klux. Plants were pinched one time eight weeks after sticking cuttings, grown under natural daylength conditions and were six months old when the photograph and the detailed description were taken. In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart, 1995 Edition, except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used.
