Description

[0001] Botanical designation: Senecio x hybrida.

[0002] Cultivar denomination: ‘DOPERMANPLUMAGPUR’.CROSS-REFERENCED TO CLOSELY-RELATED APPLICATION

[0003] A European Community Plant Breeder's Rights application for the instant plant was filed by the Applicant / Assignee, Dümmen Group B.V. of De Lier, The Netherlands on Oct. 21, 2024, application number 2024 / 2452 and published on Dec. 15, 2024. Foreign priority is not claimed to this application.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0004] The present invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar of Senecio plant, botanically known as Senecio x hybrida and hereinafter referred to by the name ‘Dopermanplumagpur’.

[0005] The new Senecio plant is a product of a planned breeding program conducted by the Inventor in De Lier, The Netherlands. The objective of the breeding program is to create new sturdy and freely-branching Senecio plants with dark green-colored leaves and numerous inflorescences with uniquely-colored ray and disc florets.

[0006] The new Senecio plant originated from a cross-pollination made by the Inventor in February, 2019 in De Lier, The Netherlands of a proprietary selection of Senecio x hybrida identified as code number SN-0312, not patented, as the female, or seed, parent with a proprietary selection of Senecio x hybrida identified as code number SN17-041075-004, not patented, as the male, or pollen, parent. The new Senecio plant was discovered and selected by the Inventor as a single flowering plant from within the progeny of the stated cross-pollination in a controlled greenhouse environment in De Lier, The Netherlands in February, 2020.

[0007] Asexual reproduction of the new Senecio plant by vegetative terminal cuttings in a controlled greenhouse environment in De Lier, The Netherlands since March, 2020 has shown that the unique features of this new Senecio plant are stable and reproduced true to type in successive generations.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0008] Plants of the new Senecio have not been observed under all possible combinations of environmental conditions and cultural practices. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environmental conditions such as temperature and light intensity, without, however, any variance in genotype.

[0009] The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘Dopermanplumagpur’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘Dopermanplumagpur’ as a new and distinct Senecio plant:

[0010] 1. Compact, broadly upright and uniformly mounded plant habit.

[0011] 2. Freely branching growth habit.

[0012] 3. Dark green-colored leaves.

[0013] 4. Freely flowering habit.

[0014] 5. Medium-sized daisy-type inflorescences with dark violet and dark reddish purple bi-colored ray florets.

[0015] Plants of the new Senecio differ from plants of the female parent selection primarily in ray floret color as ray florets of plants of the new Senecio are dark violet and dark reddish purple bi-colored whereas ray florets of plants of the female parent selection are lilac and blue bi-colored.

[0016] Plants of the new Senecio differ from plants of the male parent selection primarily in ray floret color as ray florets of plants of the new Senecio are dark violet and dark reddish purple bi-colored whereas ray florets of plants of the male parent selection are mostly medium blue in color with lilac-colored bases. In addition, ray florets of plants of the new Senecio are longer and narrower than ray florets of plants of the male parent selection.

[0017] Plants of the new Senecio can be compared to plants of Senecio hybrida ‘Sunsenepiba’, disclosed in U.S. Plant Pat. No. 21,353. In side-by-side comparisons, plants of the new Senecio differ from plants of ‘Sunsenepiba’ in the following characteristics:

[0018] 1. Leaves of plants of the new Senecio are darker green in color than leaves of plants of ‘Sunsenepiba’.

[0021] The aforementioned photograph, following observations and measurements describe plants grown during the spring in 12-cm containers in a glass-covered greenhouse in De Lier, The Netherlands and under cultural practices typically used in commercial Senecio production. During the production of the plants, day temperatures ranged from 8° C. to 18° C. and night temperatures ranged from 6° C. to 16° C. Plants were 13 weeks old when the photograph was taken and were 17 weeks old when the description was taken. In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart, 2007 Edition, except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used.

[0055] Pathogen & pest resistance: To date, plants of the new Senecio have not been observed to be resistant to pathogens and pests common to Senecio plants.

[0056] Temperature tolerance: Plants of the new Senecio have been observed to tolerate temperatures ranging from about 2° C. to about 30° C. and to be suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 9a to 12b.
