Abstract

A new and distinct cultivar of Kalanchoe plant named ‘Dokalamor’, characterized by its compact, upright and uniformly mounded plant habit; moderately vigorous growth habit and rapid growth rate; freely branching plant habit; dark green-colored leaves; uniform, early and freely flowering habit; large single-type flowers that are bright red in color; excellent postproduction longevity; and relative tolerance to high temperatures.

Description

[0001] Botanical designation: Kalanchoe blossfeldiana.

[0002] Cultivar denomination: ‘DOKALAMOR’.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0003] The present invention relates to a new and distinct Kalanchoe plant, botanically known as Kalanchoe blossfeldiana and hereinafter referred to by the name ‘Dokalamor’.

[0004] The new Kalanchoe is a product of a planned breeding program conducted by the Inventor in De Lier, The Netherlands. The objective of the breeding program is to create new freely-branching and freely-flowering Kalanchoe plants with large single-type red-colored flowers.

[0005] The new Kalanchoe plant originated from a cross-pollination made by the Inventor in De Lier, The Netherlands during the spring of 2019 of a proprietary selection of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana identified as code number KA13-000027-014, not patented, as the female, or seed, parent with a proprietary selection of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana identified as code number KA17-000484-002, not patented, as the male, or pollen, parent. The new Kalanchoe plant was discovered and selected by the Inventor as a single flowering plant from within the progeny of the stated cross-pollination in a controlled greenhouse environment in De Lier, The Netherlands in 2019.

[0006] Asexual reproduction of the new Kalanchoe plant by vegetative terminal cuttings in a controlled greenhouse environment in De Lier, The Netherlands since the autumn of 2019 has shown that the unique features of this new Kalanchoe plant are stable and reproduced true to type in successive generations.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0007] Plants of the new Kalanchoe have not been observed under all possible combinations of environmental conditions and cultural practices. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environmental conditions such as temperature, daylength and light intensity without, however, any variance in genotype.

[0008] The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘Dokalamor’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘Dokalamor’ as a new and distinct Kalanchoe plant:

[0009] 1. Compact, upright and uniformly mounded plant habit.

[0010] 2. Moderately vigorous growth habit and rapid growth rate.

[0011] 3. Freely branching plant habit.

[0012] 4. Dark green-colored leaves.

[0013] 5. Uniform, early and freely flowering habit.

[0014] 6. Large single-type flowers that are bright red in color.

[0015] 7. Excellent postproduction longevity.

[0016] 8. Relatively tolerant to high temperatures.

[0017] Plants of the new Kalanchoe can be compared to plants of the female parent selection. Plants of the new Kalanchoe differ primarily from plants of the female parent selection in the following characteristics:

[0018] 1. Plants of the new Kalanchoe are more compact than and are not as vigorous as plants of the female parent selection.

[0019] 2. Plants of the new Kalanchoe have smaller leaves than plants of the female parent selection.

[0020] 3. Plants of the new Kalanchoe have bright red-colored flowers whereas plants of the female parent selection have dark pink-colored flowers.

[0021] Plants of the new Kalanchoe can be compared to plants of the male parent selection. Plants of the new Kalanchoe differ from plants of the male parent selection primarily in the following characteristics:

[0022] 1. Plants of the new Kalanchoe are more freely branching than plants of the male parent selection.

[0023] 2. Plants of the new Kalanchoe have shorter peduncles than plants of the male parent selection.

[0024] 3. Plants of the new Kalanchoe have bright red-colored flowers whereas plants of the male parent selection have pink to light purple-colored flowers.

[0025] Plants of the new Kalanchoe can be compared to plants of the Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Fikalrodan’, disclosed in U.S. Plant Pat. No. 23,431. In side-by-side comparisons, plants of the new Kalanchoe differ primarily from plants of ‘Fikalrodan’ in the following characteristics:

[0032] The aforementioned photograph and following observations, measurements and values describe plants grown during the autumn in 10.5-cm containers in a glass-covered greenhouse in De Lier, The Netherlands and under cultural practices typical of commercial Kalanchoe production. During the production of the plants, day temperatures ranged from 20° C. to 25° C., night temperatures ranged from 20° C. to 21° C. and light levels ranged from 10,000 lux to 55,000 lux. Plants received long day / short night conditions (more than 14 hours of light) for four weeks then plants received photoinductive short day / long night conditions (minimum 14 hours darkness) until flowering. Plants were 15 weeks old when the photograph was taken and 19 weeks old when the detailed description was taken. In the detailed description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart, Fifth Edition, except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used.
