Abstract

The invention relates to a wireless communication device. The invention proposes a configuration for clustering reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) components. The device receives, from an RIS controller, the configuration of an RIS cluster comprising multiple clusters. The device performs beamforming training on multiple RIS clusters. The beamforming training procedure consists of transmitting a sequence of multiple reference signals to each of the multiple clusters. The transmitting device, to the base station, provides feedback indicating the optimal configuration for each of the many clusters based at least on the beamforming training procedure. The receiving device receives the downlink signal from a set or group of RIS clusters from the base station.
