The invention relates to a method for decoding forecasting modes. In response to determining that the merged mode is activated for the current block and the current candidate forecast mode is allowed for the current block, the method includes the following steps: obtaining the activation states of one or more forecast modes to be reviewed; decoding the indicator information of the current candidate forecast mode from the code line responding to the determination that the allowed candidate forecast mode is present in the forecast modes to be reviewed; and directly determine that the current candidate forecast mode is being used for the current block without decoding the current candidate forecast mode's information from the response code that determines that none of the required forecast modes are permitted.
