Abstract

The invention relates to a method and apparatus for encoding video using adaptive loop filter (AFF) processing. By one method, ALF virtual edge processing is always applied to the coding tree unit (CTD) row (regardless of whether the CTD row is for an image or a sub-image). According to another approach, the uniform ALF buffering process for different edge types belonging to the target edge category includes two or more of the following edge types: slicing edge, slicing edge, VR360 surface edge, and secondary image edge. In yet another approach, the VB ALF processing has a fixed priority level for the corner region where both horizontal and vertical edge buffering can be applied.
