Abstract

The invention relates to an extremely thin polarizing layer in which the occurrence of irregularly shaped cracks in the treated portion is prevented. The inventive polarizing layer consists of a PVA polymer film containing a chromatin amphoteric material and of an irregular shape other than rectangular. By one scheme, the polarizing layer satisfies the following expression (l) when the single layer transmission coefficient is expressed by "x"%, and the birefringence of the PVA polymer is expressed by "y11". Then, under another option, the polar layer satisfies expression (2) below when the single layer transmission coefficient is expressed by "x"%, and the in-plane slowing of the PVA-based plastic film is expressed by V nin.
