Methods and systems for identifying goods for pickup in storage facilities

Abstract

The invention relates to a system and method for identifying goods in a storage facility in order to meet picking requirements. This method includes steps such as receiving, by computational system, requests for physical goods of a specific type, determining the set of available physical goods of a specific type from physical goods stored in storage locations within the storage facility, determining points for each corresponding available physical goods based on multiple sub-points specific to that physical goods, in order to create a set of points corresponding to the set of available physical goods. The system selects the physical item from a set based on the most advantageous physical item, determines the chosen storage location of the selected physical item, and generates instructions to control the mechanical movement system to route the selected physical item from the chosen storage location to the destination pickup location.
