Abstract

The systems, methods, and tools proposed in this document relate to the transmission of demodulation reference signals (DMRS) in wireless systems. DMRS symbols can be placed in slots reserved for channel estimation. For example, channel estimation performance can be improved by using an increased number of DMRS symbols. For example, channel estimation can be improved by transmitting DMRS symbols in the expansion slot to avoid data quality degradation (e.g., which can occur by replacing data transmission symbols with DMRS symbols). The expansion slot can be a slot containing symbols spread across multiple slots (e.g., two slots, consecutive slots), for example, slot n and slot n+1.
