Abstract

The various aspects of the invention generally relate to wireless communication, specifically the user device, the base station, and the method of wireless communication performed by the device and the base station. In some respects, user equipment (UE) can receive, from the base station, a configuration that determines the number of additional resource elements (REs) in the frequency domain that provide protection between code division multiplexing (CDM) groups of demodulation reference signals (DMRS) that are multiplexed at different frequencies. These additional REs in the frequency domain may not be associated with the signal transmissions. The UE can perform channel estimation based at least in part on the number of additional guard REs in the frequency domain between CDM DMRS groups that are channel-divided according to different frequencies.
