Abstract

The invention relates to a drug delivery system in a cavity and a method for constructing such a system comprising a container with an inner chamber extending along a longitudinal axis, with the chamber wall having one or more translucent slits on it. A retaining mechanism extending from the container and adjusted to hold a removable container in a cavity on the body defined by the cavity wall. A penetrating delivery device is arranged in the cavity and comprises a penetrating part and a drug reservoir located in a semipermeable membrane. The extended osmotic pressure and pressure applied to the drug-containing portion respond to the absorption of liquid from the body through the osmotic membrane. The drug-containing portion is arranged to release the drug corresponding to the pressure created by the extended osmotic pressure, with the drug escaping through a membrane pore defined by the osmotic membrane and then exiting the container through one or more openings so that the drug is distributed into the body's pores.
