Abstract

The invention relates to a method for processing video as an example, including performing a transformation between a block of video and a bit stream of video. The bit stream conforms to a formatting rule that defines the size of the merged estimation region (MER) indicated in the bit stream, and the size of the MER is based on the size of the video unit. The MER includes the region used to derive motion candidates for transformation.
