Abstract

The invention relates to a video decoding method, an electronic device, a video encoding method, a video encoding method, and a method for implementing transformation skip mode (TSM) in a video decoder. The video decoder receives data from a bit stream to be decoded as multiple video images. The video decoder parses the bit stream with respect to the first syntactic element in the sequence parameter set (SPS) of the current sequence of video images. When the first syntactic element indicates that variable pass-through mode is permitted for the current sequence of video images, and when variable pass-through mode is used for the current block in the current image of the current sequence, the video decoder reconstructs the current block using quantized residual signals that are not transformed.
