Abstract

Various approaches include methods and devices for implementing replacement policies in a cache with criteria recognition by the computing device and means not temporarily readable by the processor. These approaches may include a step to update the old counter, a step to write the value of the local counter to the system cache associated with the location in the system cache for the data, where the value of the local counter includes the value of the old counter when (i.e., at the time) the associated data is written to the system cache, and a step to use the value of the local counter of the associated data to determine whether the associated data is old.
