Abstract

The invention proposes a process for producing graphene nanoribbons from nano-sized carbon tube material, which includes the following steps: i) slowly adding nano-sized carbon tube material to an acid solution; ii) adding KMnO4 to the mixture obtained in step i); iii) adding the solution from step ii) to a H2O2 solution; iv) washing the solid obtained in step iii) with distilled water, then filtering to obtain the solid and drying to obtain purified graphene oxide; v) enriching the functional group by reacting the graphene oxide obtained in step iv) with a H2O2 solution, followed by filtration, washing, and drying to obtain graphene oxide enriched with the -OOH functional group; vi) reacting the graphene oxide obtained in step v) with an amine; vii) filtering the mixture obtained in step vi) to obtain solid graphene, then filtering and washing the obtained solid with ethanol, and drying to obtain graphene nanoribbons. The process described in the invention allows for the production of graphene nanoribbons from carbon nanotubes with high dispersibility into oil-based solvent systems used in coatings. Specifically, the functional group enrichment step described in the invention increases the dispersibility of the resulting material, thus enabling its application in coating systems, allowing the graphene nanoribbons to disperse well into the solvent and coating system. The process described in the invention is also carried out under simple conditions, therefore it has the potential for large-scale development.
