Abstract

The invention relates to a folding hub system. The folding hub contains a transfer gear that performs positive displacement to increase the rigidity and torque transmission of the transfer gear in the rack and pinion system. In addition, the folding hub incorporates a steel rear leg plate with an integrated rigid locking mechanism to prevent over-rotation of the folding parts of the folding hub, while increasing the overall rigidity and strength of the folding hub in a simplified manner. Furthermore, the folding hub contains a tapered unlock plate and locking pin system such that when the unlock plate is actuated, the cam path of the unlock plate causes the locking pin to be tapered to transition from the locked to the unlocked state at which point the folding hub can be transitioned from the open to the folded configuration.
