Abstract

The invention relates to an absorbent material for the removal of chlorine components from pyrolysis oil, whereby red mud, produced as a byproduct in the aluminum oxide production process, is applied to the absorbent material for the removal of chlorine components from pyrolysis oil. Using untreated red mud (containing 30% Fe2O3 and 60% Al2O3), the chlorination (Cl) removal efficiency is 90% or higher, but the cracking reaction of pyrolysis oil caused by the acidic sites of aluminum oxide is overcome. The red mud is mixed with iron hydroxide, and then the absorbent material is produced, thereby achieving high chlorine removal efficiency and preventing the cracking reaction of pyrolysis oil. The invention also relates to a method for producing this absorbent material.
