PROCESS FOR TREATING WATER CONTAINING THE PESTICIDE CARBOFURAN

Abstract

The invention relates to a process for treating water containing the pesticide carbofuran, in which the water to be treated contains carbofuran at concentrations of 0.1 to 100 mg / L, comprising the following steps: (a) adjusting the pH of the water to be treated between 4.0 and 9.0; (b) adding to the water to be treated a photocatalytic Ag-TiO2 catalyst in amounts between 0.1 and 0.4 g / L; (c) irradiating with visible light to activate the photocatalyst; (d) maintaining the irradiation until the carbofuran is decomposed, in which silver is doped into TiO2 at a concentration of 5% by mass, reducing the band gap energy of TiO2 to 2.5 eV, thereby enhancing the efficiency of carbofuran decomposition under visible light.
