The battery supplies power to the electric motor.

[0010] The battery has a first portion and a second portion. The first portion is disposed below the footboard. The second portion extends upward from the first portion. The second portion is disposed below the seat. The second portion is disposed in front of the electric motor. Therefore, the first portion and the second portion together have a large size. Therefore, the battery has a large size. Therefore, the battery has a large capacity.

[0011] Furthermore, the storage box has a lower end. The second portion has an upper end. The upper end of the second portion is positioned higher than the lower end of the storage box. Therefore, the size of the second portion is larger. Therefore, the size of the battery is larger. Therefore, the capacity of the battery is larger.

[0012] In summary, the present straddle-type electric vehicle is equipped with a battery having a large capacity.

[0013] In the above-described straddle-type electric vehicle, it is preferable that the second portion overlaps with the storage box in a front view of the straddle-type electric vehicle. [0470] 8. Effects of the Embodiment The saddle-type electric vehicle 1 includes a body frame 11, a seat 21, a footboard 22, a storage box 31, an electric motor 41, and a battery 51. At least a portion of the footboard 22 is disposed forward and below the seat 21. The storage box 31 is supported by the body frame 11. The storage box 31 is disposed below the seat 21. The electric motor 41 is disposed below the storage box 31. The electric motor 41 overlaps with the storage box 31 in a plan view of the vehicle. The battery 51 supplies power to the electric motor 41.

[0471] The battery 51 includes a first portion 52 and a second portion 53. The first portion 52 is disposed below the footboard 22. The second portion 53 extends upward from the first portion 52. The second portion 53 is disposed below the seat 21. The second portion 53 is disposed in front of the electric motor 41. Therefore, the first portion 52 and the second portion 53 as a whole have a large size. Therefore, the battery 51 has a large size. Therefore, the battery 51 has a large capacity.

[0472] Furthermore, the storage box 31 has a lower end 31b. The second portion 53 has an upper end 53t. The upper end 53t of the second portion 53 is positioned higher than the lower end 31b of the storage box 31. Therefore, the size of the second portion 53 is larger. Therefore, the size of the battery 51 is larger. Therefore, the capacity of the battery 51 is larger.

[0473] In summary, the saddle-type electric vehicle 1 is equipped with a battery 51 having a large capacity.

[0474] As described above, the first portion 52 is disposed below the footboard 22. This makes it easy to improve the riding comfort of the saddle-riding type electric vehicle 1. For example, it is easy to improve the stability of the saddle-riding type electric vehicle 1.

[0475] The second portion 53 overlaps with the storage box 31 in a front view of the vehicle. Therefore, the size of the second portion 53 is larger, and the size of the battery 51 is therefore larger. Therefore, the capacity of the battery 51 is also larger.

[0476] The battery 51 includes a plurality of first cells 55a and a plurality of second cells 55b. The first cells 55a are installed in the first portion 52. The second cells 55b are installed in the second portion 53. The capacity of the battery 51 is the sum of the capacity of the first cells 55a and the capacity of the second cells 55b. Therefore, the capacity of the battery 51 is large.

[0477] The second cell 55b includes a portion that is positioned above the lower end 31b of the storage box 31. Therefore, the size of the second cell 55b is larger, and the capacity of the second cell 55b is therefore larger. Therefore, the capacity of the battery 51 is also larger.

[0478] An upper end 53t of the second portion 53 is disposed above the electric motor 41. Therefore, the size of the second portion 53 is larger, and therefore the size of the battery 51 is larger. Therefore, the capacity of the battery 51 is larger.

[0479] The upper end 53t of the second portion 53 is positioned higher than the footboard 22. Therefore, the size of the second portion 53 is larger, and the size of the battery 51 is therefore larger. Therefore, the capacity of the battery 51 is also larger.

[0480] The first portion 52 has an upper end 52t and a lower end 52b. The length Lz is the length in the vertical direction Z between the upper end 53t of the second portion 53 and the upper end 52t of the first portion 52. The length Kz is the length in the vertical direction Z between the upper end 52t of the first portion 52 and the lower end 52b of the first portion 52. The length Lz is greater than the length Kz. Therefore, it is easy to position the upper end 53t of the second portion 53 above the lower end 31b of the storage box 31.

[0481] The first portion 52 is long in the front-rear direction X in a side view of the vehicle. Therefore, it is easy to dispose the first portion 52 below the footboard 22.

[0482] The first portion 52 has a front end 52f. The second portion 53 has a front end 53f. The length Kx is the length in the front-to-rear direction X between the front ends 52f and 53f. The length Kz is the length in the up-down direction Z between the lower end 52b and the upper end 52t. The length Kx is longer than the length Kz. Therefore, it is easy to position the first portion 52 below the footboard 22.

[0483] The first portion 52 has a right end 52c and a left end 52d. The length Ky is the length in the width direction Y between the right end 52c and the left end 52d. The length Ky is longer than the length Kz. This makes it easy to position the first portion 52 below the footboard 22.

[0484] The first portion 52 is flat in the width direction Y. Therefore, it is easy to dispose the first portion 52 below the footboard 22.

[0485] The second portion 53 is long in the vertical direction Z in a side view of the vehicle. Therefore, it is easy to position the upper end 53t of the second portion 53 above the lower end 31b of the storage box 31.

[0486] The second portion 53 has a front end 53f and a rear end 53r. The length Lx is the length in the front-to-rear direction X between the front end 53f and the rear end 53r. The length Lz is the length in the up-down direction Z between the upper end 53t and the upper end 52t. The length Lz is longer than the length Lx. Therefore, it is easy to position the upper end 53t of the second portion 53 above the lower end 31b of the storage box 31.

[0487] The second part 53 is joined to the rear part 32 of the first part 52. Therefore, it is easy to arrange the first part 52 below the footboard 22. It is also easy to arrange the second part 53 below the seat 21 and in front of the electric motor 41.

[0488] The battery 51 has a generally L-shape when viewed from the side of the vehicle. This makes it easy to arrange the first portion 52 below the footboard 22. It also makes it easy to arrange the second portion 53 below the seat 21 and in front of the electric motor 41.

[0489] The battery 51 has a center of gravity G. The center of gravity G is located below the lower end 31b of the storage box 31. Therefore, it is easy to lower the center of gravity G of the saddle riding type electric vehicle 1. Therefore, it is easy to improve the maneuverability of the saddle riding type electric vehicle 1.

[0490] The electric motor 41 has a motor shaft 43. The center of gravity G of the battery 51 is located below the motor shaft 43. This makes it easier to lower the center of gravity G of the saddle riding type electric vehicle 1. This makes it easier to improve the maneuverability of the saddle riding type electric vehicle 1.

[0491] The footboard 22 has an upper edge 22e in a side view of the vehicle. The center of gravity G of the battery 51 is located below the upper edge 22e. This makes it even easier to lower the center of gravity G of the saddle riding type electric vehicle 1. This makes it even easier to improve the maneuverability of the saddle riding type electric vehicle 1.

[0492] The saddle riding type electric vehicle 1 includes a drive shaft 44. The center of gravity G of the battery 51 is located below the drive shaft 44. This makes it easier to lower the center of gravity G of the saddle riding type electric vehicle 1. This makes it easier to improve the maneuverability of the saddle riding type electric vehicle 1.

[0493] The footboard 22 is flat in the width direction Y. Therefore, the space below the footboard 22 is not sufficiently large. However, the battery 51 has a second portion 53 in addition to the first portion 52. Therefore, even if the footboard 22 is flat in the width direction Y, the size of the battery 51 is large. Therefore, even if the footboard 22 is flat in the width direction Y, the capacity of the battery 51 is large. Therefore, even if the footboard 22 is flat in the width direction Y, the saddle-riding type electric vehicle 1 is equipped with a battery 51 having a large capacity. In fact, when the footboard 22 is flat in the width direction Y, the saddle-riding type electric vehicle 1 exhibits remarkable usefulness.

[0494] The upper end 52t of the first portion 52 is positioned lower than the lower end 31b. Therefore, it is easy for the footboard 22 to be flat in the width direction Y.

[0495] The upper end 52t is disposed below at least a portion of the motor shaft 43. Therefore, it is easy for the foot board 22 to be flat in the width direction Y.

[0496] The storage box 31 extends from a position rearward of the second portion 53 to a position above the second portion 53. Therefore, the storage box 31 has a relatively large size.

[0497] The storage box 31 has a rear portion 32 and a front portion 33. The rear portion 32 is disposed rearward of the second portion 53. The front portion 33 is disposed forward of the rear portion 32. The front portion 33 is disposed above the second portion 53. At least a portion of the rear portion 32 is disposed below an upper end 53t of the second portion 53. Therefore, the rear portion 32 has a relatively large size.

[0498] The entire front portion 33 is positioned above the upper end 53t of the second portion 53. Therefore, the front portion 33 does not interfere with the second portion 53. Therefore, it is easy to extend the storage box 31 from a position rearward of the second portion 53 to a position above the second portion 53.

[0499] The footboard 22 has a right portion 23, a left portion 24, and a central portion 25. The left portion 24 is located to the left of the right portion 23. The central portion 25 is located to the left of the right portion 23 and to the right of the left portion 24. The right portion 23 has an upper edge 23e in a side view of the vehicle. The left portion 24 has an upper edge 24e in a side view of the vehicle. The first portion 52 is located below the upper edge 23e in a side view of the vehicle. The first portion 52 is located below the upper edge 24e in a side view of the vehicle. Therefore, it is easy to locate the first portion 52 below the footboard 22.

[0500] The seat 21 has a front end 21f. At least a portion of the first portion 52 is disposed forward of the front end 21f. As described above, the first portion 52 is disposed below the footboard 22. Here, the battery 51 is a relatively heavy component. Therefore, the first portion 52 is relatively heavy, and at least a portion of the first portion 52 is disposed forward of the front end 21f and below the footboard 22. Therefore, it is easy to improve the riding comfort of the saddle riding type electric vehicle 1. For example, it is easy to improve the stability of the saddle riding type electric vehicle 1.

[0501] At least a portion of the second portion 53 is disposed rearward of the front end 21f. As described above, the second portion 53 extends upward from the first portion 52. Therefore, at least a portion of the second portion 53 is disposed in a position close to the body of the driver of the saddle-riding type electric vehicle 1. Here, the battery 51 is a relatively heavy component. Therefore, the second portion 53 is relatively heavy, and at least a portion of the second portion 53 is disposed rearward of the front end 21f and extends upward from the first portion 52. In other words, the second portion 53 is relatively heavy, and at least a portion of the second portion 53 is disposed in a position close to the driver. Therefore, it is easy to improve the ride comfort of the saddle-riding type electric vehicle 1. For example, it is easy to improve the drivability of the saddle-riding type electric vehicle 1.

[0502] At least a portion of the first portion 52 overlaps with the footboard 22 in a plan view of the vehicle. Therefore, it is easy to dispose the first portion 52 below the footboard 22.

[0503] At least a portion of the second portion 53 overlaps with the seat 21 in a plan view of the vehicle. Therefore, it is easy to dispose the second portion 53 below the seat 21.

The second cells 55b are arranged in eight rows in the up-down direction Z.

[0550] The location of the drive shaft 44 may be changed. For example, the drive shaft 44 may be located lower than the motor shaft 43. As a result, the drive shaft 44 may be located lower than the center of gravity G of the battery 51. In other words, the center of gravity G of the battery 51 may be located higher than the drive shaft 44.

[0551] The location of the joining surface 54c may be changed. For example, the joining surface 54c may be located at the boundary between the first portion 52 and the second portion 53. The joining surface 54c may be located on an imaginary plane Q.

[0552] The shape of the storage box 31 may be changed. For example, the storage box 31 may not have a front portion 33. The storage box 31 may be formed only by a rear portion 32. The rear portion 32 may include a front end 31f of the storage box 31. The front end 31f of the storage box 31 may be disposed on an imaginary plane P. As a result, the front end 31f of the storage box 31 may be disposed rearward of the entire battery 51.
