Abstract

The invention relates to a method for removing microplastics smaller than 5.0 mm from water using air bubble flotation. The characteristic feature of the invention is the use of a natural organic foaming agent, a mixture of extracts from dragon fruit peel (Pithahaya) and soapnut fruit (Sapindus mukorossi) mixed in a volume ratio of 5:1. The optimal operating procedure is performed at a solvent concentration of 0.025%, an air flow rate of 3 liters / minute for 10 minutes at 25°C, and without stirring. The method achieves a removal efficiency of 97% to 100% for PP, PET, ABS, and PPSU microplastics in both freshwater and saltwater environments (NaCl 3.5%). This natural solvent can be reused up to 10 times, completely replacing toxic industrial chemicals, reducing treatment costs, and ensuring environmental safety.
