Abstract

The invention relates to a compound (+)-2,2′,3-tribromo-3′,4,4′,5-tetrahydroxy-6′-methoxy-methyl-diphenyl-methoxymethane of the bromophenol group, which is the first to be extracted and isolated from natural sources. The invention also relates to an extraction procedure and the compound (+)-2,2′,3-tribromo-3′,4,4′,5-tetrahydroxy-6′-methoxy-methyl-diphenylmethoxymethane from the epiphytic biomass of Laminaria hyperborea, following a procedure comprising the following main steps: (i) preparation of the material; (ii) solvent extraction of the material; and (iii) chromatographic isolation of the compound.
