The desk comprises a work surface for placing learning materials and a light box positioned in front of and / or above the user, where the light box has a light-emitting ceiling forming a wide-area secondary light source. The work surface may be a mirrored or transparent surface, and at least one functional surface is positioned in front of the user or on the desk drawer, within the peripheral field of view. These functional surfaces are combined with the light box and work surface to produce observable images within the peripheral field of view with an apparent viewing distance greater than the near working distance, while maintaining the central visual area for reading and writing.Simultaneously, by arranging the light-emitting and functional surfaces within the user's field of vision, the invention contributes to enhancing the useful illumination at the eyes in a natural working posture, without significantly increasing the nominal illumination of the space.
