Abstract

This invention proposes a method for measuring and synthesizing beam patterns for large-element phased array antennas through near-field measurements. The invention utilizes many readily available hardware components on radar systems, such as RFSOC signal processing boards and BF beamforming boards, to perform amplitude and phase measurements, thereby reducing hardware costs and time. Beam synthesis from measured amplitude and phase allows for the evaluation of important antenna parameters against theoretical values, such as the main beam width and the height of the main beam relative to side beams.
