AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing communication technologies face challenges in efficiently handling semi-persistent assignment (SPS) configurations with time advance (TA) frameworks, particularly in scenarios with two timing advance groups (TAGs), where clearing downlink assignments is complex due to associations with different TAGs.

Method used

A device determines the states of time alignment timers (TATs) for two TAGs and identifies which SPS configuration is associated with each TAG. When a TAT expires for a first TAG while the second TAG's TAT remains active, the device clears the associated downlink SPS configuration.

Benefits of technology

This solution ensures that only the necessary downlink SPS configurations are cleared when a TAT expires, maintaining efficient communication by avoiding unnecessary deactivation of configurations associated with active TAGs.

Abstract

The invention relates to the handling of semi-persistent assignment (SPS) configurations using time advance (TA) frames. In one respect, the device identifies a first time alignment timer (TAT) for the first timing advance group (TAG) in state one and a second TAT for the second TAG in state two. The device also identifies that the semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) configuration is associated with the first TAG and performs operations on the SPS configuration. In this way, the configured downlink assignment or the SPS configuration is removed or deactivated in the event a TAT expires for a serving cell where the physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) response cannot be transmitted based on the PUCCH resource or TAG link.

[0032] The term “terminal device” refers to a device of a communication system of a cellular network, such as a 5th generation communication system (5GS) that may be capable of wireless (e.g., radio) communication with a NR-RAN of the 5GS) . By way of example rather than limitation, a terminal device may also be referred to as a wireless communication device, user equipment (UE) , a Subscriber Station (SS) , a Portable Subscriber Station, a Mobile Station (MS) , or an Access Terminal (AT) . Examples of a terminal device include, but not limited to, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a smart phone, voice over IP (VoIP) phones, wireless local loop phones, a tablet, a wearable terminal device, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , portable computers, desktop computer, image capture terminal devices such as digital cameras, gaming terminal devices, music storage and playback appliances, vehicle-mounted wireless terminal devices, wireless endpoints, mobile stations, laptop-embedded equipment (LEE) , laptop-mounted equipment (LME) , USB dongles, smart devices, wireless customer-premises equipment (CPE) , an Internet of Things (IoT) device, a watch or other wearable, a head-mounted display (HMD) , a vehicle, a drone, a medical device and applications (for example, remote surgery) , an industrial device and applications (for example, a robot and / or other wireless devices operating in an industrial and / or an automated processing chain contexts) , a consumer electronics device, a device operating on commercial and / or industrial wireless networks, and the like. In the following description, the terms “terminal device” , “communication device” , “terminal” , “user equipment” and “UE” may be used interchangeably.

[0033] Releasing or clearing any configured downlink assignments for a serving cell configured with two TAGs would be done only for the uplink for the concerned TAG, i.e., the UL channels or configurations associated with the other TAG may continue intact. It means that actions could be written in case the other TAT of the TAG of the serving cell remains running while the other one expires.

[0034] Although any UL transmissions may be associated with a TAG e.g., through the transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state or TAG association, the clearing of the configured downlink assignments, which may also be referred to “SPS” , is not that straightforward. The downlink (DL) SPS configuration may be transmitted by the network via any TRP (Transmission Reception Point) or using either first indicated TCI state or second indicated TCI state. The first indicated TCI state may be associated with first TAG and the second indicated TCI may be associated with second TAG. The main problem is how to clear only the necessary and configured DL SPS configuration in case the TAT of one of the two TAGs associated with a serving cell expires.

[0035] In view of the above, example embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for handling of SPS configuration with time advance (TA) framework, especially for 2-time advance (TA) framework. In the example embodiments of the present disclosure, a device may determine a first time alignment timer (TAT) for a first timing advance group (TAG) is in a first state and a second TAT for a second TAG is in a second state; determine that a semi persistent scheduling (SPS) configuration is associated with the first TAG; and perform an operation to the SPS configuration.

[0036] According to the context of this disclosure, when a TAT expires for a first TAG associated with a serving cell and a TAT of a second TAG associated with the same serving cell remains running, the configured downlink assignment or SPS configuration may be cleared in case that configured downlink assignment, such as SPS configuration, or PUCCH resource used to indicate feedback to the configured downlink assignment is associated with the first TAG. In this way, only configured downlink assignment or SPS configuration is cleared or deactivated in case one TAT expires for a serving cell for which physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) feedback cannot be transmitted based on the PUCCH resource or TAG association.

[0037] FIG. 1 illustrates an example of a network environment 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. The environment 100 may be a part of a communication network and comprise a plurality of terminal devices and network devices, such as a terminal device 110, a network device 120. As an example, the terminal device 110 may be implemented as a User Equipment (UE) or an Access Terminal (AT) , and the network device 120 may be implemented as a satellite (eNB) , or a base station (BS) . The network device 120 may transmit various data to the terminal device 110 via network environment 100.

[0038] To transmit data and / or control information, the terminal device 110 may perform communications with the network device 120. A link from the network device 120 to the terminal device 110 is referred to as a downlink (DL) , while a link from the terminal device 110 to the network device 120 is referred to as an uplink (UL) .

[0039] Although the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 are described in the communication environment 100 of FIG. 1, embodiments of the present disclosure may equally apply to any other suitable communication devices in communication with one another. That is, embodiments of the present disclosure are not limited to the exemplary scenarios of FIG. 1. In this regard, it is noted that although the terminal device is schematically depicted as a mobile phone and the network device 120 is schematically depicted as a satellite in FIG. 1, it is understood that these depictions are exemplary in nature without suggesting any limitation. In other embodiments, the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 may be any other communication devices, for example, any other wireless communication devices.

[0040] It is to be understood that the particular number of various communication devices and the particular number of various communication links as shown in FIG. 1 is for illustration purpose only without suggesting any limitations. The communication environment 100 may include any suitable number of communication devices and any suitable number of communication links for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure. In addition, it should be appreciated that there may be various wireless as well as wireline communications (if needed) among all of the communication devices.

[0041] FIG. 2 illustrates a flowchart of method according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. It would be appreciated that although the method 200 has been described referring to FIG. 1, this method 200 may be likewise applied to other similar communication scenarios.

[0042] In the method 200, at block 202, a device, which may be implemented as either the terminal device 110 or the network device 120, may determine a first time alignment timer (TAT) for a first timing advance group (TAG) is in a first state and a second TAT for a second TAG is in a second state. The first state may indicate that the first TAT is expired, and the second state may indicate that the second TAT is running.

[0043] At block 204, the device may then determine that a semi persistent scheduling (SPS) configuration is associated with the first TAG. In some embodiments, the device may determine that the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG by determining that a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) resource for the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG.

[0044] In some further embodiments, the device may determine that the PUCCH resource for the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG by determining that an uplink transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state or a joint TCI state followed by the PUCCH resource is associated with the first TAG. Alternatively, or additionally, the device may determine that the PUCCH resource for the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG by determining that downlink control information (DCI) that activates the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG. The DCI may be transmitted through a control resource set associated with the first TAG.

[0045] In another embodiment, the device may determine that the PUCCH resource for the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG by determining that the PUCCH resource for the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG based on a radio resource control (RRC) signaling. The RRC signalling may associate the PUCCH resource and the SPS configuration.

[0046] In some embodiments, the device may determine that the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG by determining that a downlink state or a joint transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state of a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) for the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG.

[0047] In some other embodiments, the device may determine that the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG by determine that a downlink state or a joint transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state of a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) that activates the SPS configuration is associated with a coreset pool index. The one or more uplink TCI states or joint TCI states may be activated or indicated for the coreset pool index and are associated with the first TAG.

[0048] At block 206, the device may perform an operation to the SPS configuration. For example, the device may release the SPS configuration based on determining that the SPS configuration is associated with first TAG. Alternatively, or Additionally, the device may suspend the SPS configuration until the PUCCH resource for the SPS is reconfigured to a TAG with a valid timing advance (TA) based on determining that the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG.

[0049] Alternatively, or additionally, the device may suspend, based on determining that the SPS configuration is associated with first TAG, the SPS configuration until the first TAT is recovered. In some embodiments, the device may release the suspended SPS configuration based on determining that the first TAT and the second TAT are both in the first state. The device may deactivate the SPS configuration based on determining that the SPS configuration is associated with first TAG.

[0050] In some embodiments, the device may activate the SPS configuration based on an activation command. Alternatively, or additionally, the device may release a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback based on that the SPS configuration is released.

[0051] In the context of this disclosure, when a device determines that a TAT expires for a first TAG or one of the TAGs associated with a serving sell and a TAT of a second TAG or other TAGs associated with the same serving cell remains running, the device may clear the configured downlink assignment or the SPS configuration in case that the PUCCH resource (s) which is used to indicate feedback to the configured downlink assignment or the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG.

[0052] In the context of this disclosure or in some embodiments, when a device determines that a TAT expires for a first TAG or one of the TAGs associated with a serving sell, the device may consider a TAT of a second TAG or other TAGs associated with the same serving cell as expired. In some examples, this is done if the first TAG is a secondary TAG of the device. In some other examples, if the first TAG is a primary TAG of the device, the device may consider all TATs of a second TAG or other TAGs associated with any serving cell as expired. Hence, the device may clear all the configured downlink assignment or the SPS configurations associated with the serving cell since the PUCCH resource (s) which is used to indicate feedback to the configured downlink assignment or the SPS configuration are also released.

[0053] In some embodiments, the device may determine the PUCCH resource from the DCI (downlink control information) that activates the configured downlink assignment or SPS configuration. The DCI may be associated with the first TAG or second TAG through control resource set (CORESET) , which is associated with CORESET pool index, used for the provision of the DCI. The CORESET pool index may be associated further with a TAG through TCI state associated with an identifier of TAG.

[0054] For example, in some embodiments, the device may determine the downlink assignment or the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG by determining that a DL TCI state or a joint TCI state associated with a PDSCH (s) of the downlink assignment or SPS configuration is associated with a CORESET pool index, and one or more UL TCI states or one or more joint TCI states, which are activated or indicated for the CORESET pool index, are associated with the first TAG (via RRC) .

[0055] In some embodiments, the device may determine the downlink assignment or the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG by determining that a DL TCI state or a joint TCI state associated with a PDCCH of the downlink or DCI activating the SPS PDSCH assignment is associated with a CORESET pool index, and one or more UL TCI states or one or more joint TCI states, which are activated or indicated for the CORESET pool index, are associated with the first TAG (via RRC) .

[0056] In some embodiments, the device may determine the PUCCH resource from RRC signalling that is used to associate the PUCCH resource and the configured downlink assignment or SPS configuration. In some examples, the device may determine the PUCCH resource associated with the downlink assignment or SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG by determining a UL TCI state or a joint TCI state is associated with the PUCCH resource and the UL TCI state or the joint TCI state is associated with the first TAG.

[0057] In some other embodiments, the device may determine the PUCCH resource associated with the downlink assignment or SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG by determining a DL TCI state or a joint TCI state associated with a PDCCH of the downlink assignment is associated with a CORESET pool index, and one or more UL TCI states or one or more joint TCI states, which are activated or indicated for the coreset pool index, are associated with the first TAG.

[0058] Alternatively, or additionally, the device may not release the SPS configuration but suspend it until the network reconfigures the PUCCH resource for the SPS to a TAG with valid TA, or until the TA for the TAG for the PUCCH is recovered. The device may also deactivate the SPS configuration when TAT expires for the first TAG for its associated PUCCH, while the SPS configuration may be activated by a network explicit activation command.

[0059] In some further embodiments, the device may release the suspended SPS configuration if the TATs of both TAGs are expired, for example, both the first TAT and the second TAT expired. It is noted that the association of PUCCH to a TAG may be determined based on the UL TCI state tor joint TCI state that the PUCCH resource is configured to follow (i.e., follow first indicated TCI state or follow second indicated TCI state) and based on the association of the TCI state to the identifier of TAG.

[0060] The SPS configuration may include PUCCH configuration for hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback and the PUCCH configuration may indicate which TRP it is associated with. When the TAT expires for the TAG that the PUCCH configuration for the SPS is associated with, the corresponding SPS configuration may be released as well because there would be no PUCCH resource to transmit the HARQ feedback as it is also released upon TAT expiry. It is also noted that the SPS configuration does not necessarily need to be associated to any TRP and it may be activated / deactivated via any TRP. The retransmissions of the SPS configuration may be also scheduled via any TRP.

[0061] The following table illustrates an example SPS configuration information elements. The SPS configuration may be used to configure downlink semi-persistent transmission. Multiple downlink SPS configurations may be configured in one bandwidth part (BWP) of a serving cell. The parameter PUCCH-ResourceId may indicate an identifier of resource.

[0062] In some embodiments, an apparatus capable of performing the method 200 (for example, the terminal device 110 or the network device 120) may comprise means for performing the respective steps of the method 200. The means may be implemented in any suitable form. For example, the means may be implemented in a circuitry or software module.

[0063] In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for determining a first time alignment timer (TAT) for a first timing advance group (TAG) is in a first state and a second TAT for a second TAG is in a second state; means for determining that a semi persistent scheduling (SPS) configuration is associated with the first TAG; and means for perform an operation to the SPS configuration. The first state indicates that the first TAT is expired, and the second state indicates that the second TAT is running.

[0064] In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for determining that a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) resource for the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG. In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for determining that an uplink transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state or a joint TCI state followed by the PUCCH resource is associated with the first TAG.

[0065] In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for determining that downlink control information (DCI) that activates the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG, wherein the DCI is transmitted through a control resource set associated with the first TAG. In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for determining that the PUCCH resource for the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG based on a radio resource control (RRC) signalling, wherein the RRC signalling associates the PUCCH resource and the SPS configuration.

[0066] In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for determining that a downlink state or a joint transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state of a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) for the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG. In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for determining that a downlink state or a joint transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state of a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) that activates the SPS configuration is associated with a coreset pool index, wherein one or more uplink TCI states or joint TCI states are activated or indicated for the coreset pool index and are associated with the first TAG

[0067] In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for releasing the SPS configuration based on determining that the SPS configuration is associated with first TAG. In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for suspend, based on determining that the SPS configuration is associated with the first TAG, the SPS configuration until the PUCCH resource for the SPS is reconfigured to a TAG with a valid timing advance (TA) .

[0068] In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for suspending, based on determining that the SPS configuration is associated with first TAG, the SPS configuration until the first TAT is recovered. In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for releasing, based on determining that the first TAT and the second TAT are both in the first state, the suspended SPS configuration. In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for deactivate, based on determining that the SPS configuration is associated with first TAG, the SPS configuration.

[0069] In some further embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for activating the SPS configuration based on an activation command. In some further embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for releasing, based on that the SPS configuration is released, a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback. In some further embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for a terminal device or a network device.

[0070] In some embodiments, the apparatus further comprises means for performing other steps in some embodiments of the method 200. In some embodiments, the means comprises at least one processor and at least one memory including computer program code, the at least one memory and computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the performance of the apparatus.

[0079] Generally, various embodiments of the present disclosure may be implemented in hardware or special purpose circuits, software, logic or any combination thereof. Some aspects may be implemented in hardware, while other aspects may be implemented in firmware or software which may be executed by a controller, microprocessor or other computing device. While various aspects of embodiments of the present disclosure are illustrated and described as block diagrams, flowcharts, or using some other pictorial representations, it is to be understood that the block, apparatus, system, technique or method described herein may be implemented in, as non-limiting examples, hardware, software, firmware, special purpose circuits or logic, general purpose hardware or controller or other computing devices, or some combination thereof.

[0080] [Rectified under Rule 91, 13.11.2023]The present disclosure also provides at least one computer program product tangibly stored on a non-transitory computer readable storage medium. The computer program product includes computer-executable instructions, such as those included in program modules, being executed in a device on a target real or virtual processor, to carry out the method 200 as described above with reference to FIG. 2. Generally, program modules include routines, programs, libraries, objects, classes, components, data structures, or the like that perform particular tasks or implement particular abstract data types. The functionality of the program modules may be combined or split between program modules as desired in various embodiments. Machine-executable instructions for program modules may be executed within a local or distributed device. In a distributed device, program modules may be located in both local and remote storage media.

[0081] Program code for carrying out methods of the present disclosure may be written in any combination of one or more programming languages. These program codes may be provided to a processor or controller of a general purpose computer, special purpose computer, or other programmable data processing apparatus, such that the program codes, when executed by the processor or controller, cause the functions / operations specified in the flowcharts and / or block diagrams to be implemented. The program code may execute entirely on a machine, partly on the machine, as a stand-alone software package, partly on the machine and partly on a remote machine or entirely on the remote machine or server.

[0082] In the context of the present disclosure, the computer program codes or related data may be carried by any suitable carrier to enable the device, apparatus or processor to perform various processes and operations as described above. Examples of the carrier include a signal, computer readable medium, and the like.

[0083] The computer readable medium may be a computer readable signal medium or a computer readable storage medium. A computer readable medium may include but not limited to an electronic, magnetic, optical, electromagnetic, infrared, or semiconductor system, apparatus, or device, or any suitable combination of the foregoing. More specific examples of the computer readable storage medium would include an electrical connection having one or more wires, a portable computer diskette, a hard disk, a random access memory (RAM) , a read-only memory (ROM) , an erasable programmable read-only memory (EPROM or Flash memory) , an optical fiber, a portable compact disc read-only memory (CD-ROM) , an optical storage device, a magnetic storage device, or any suitable combination of the foregoing. The term “non-transitory, ” as used herein, is a limitation of the medium itself (i.e., tangible, not a signal) as opposed to a limitation on data storage persistency (e.g., RAM vs. ROM) .

[0084] Further, while operations are depicted in a particular order, this should not be understood as requiring that such operations be performed in the particular order shown or in sequential order, or that all illustrated operations be performed, to achieve desirable results. In certain circumstances, multitasking and parallel processing may be advantageous. Likewise, while several specific implementation details are contained in the above discussions, these should not be construed as limitations on the scope of the present disclosure, but rather as descriptions of features that may be specific to particular embodiments. Certain features that are described in the context of separate embodiments may also be implemented in combination in a single embodiment. Conversely, various features that are described in the context of a single embodiment may also be implemented in multiple embodiments separately or in any suitable sub-combination.

[0085] Although the present disclosure has been described in languages specific to structural features and / or methodological acts, it is to be understood that the present disclosure defined in the appended claims is not necessarily limited to the specific features or acts described above. Rather, the specific features and acts described above are disclosed as example forms of implementing the claims.
