Abstract
The invention proposes a method for designing an optimal signal constellation for a Rate-Division Multiple Access (RSMA) system. The method classifies the signal space into a common stream and separate streams, where the common stream uses a PSK constellation with constant amplitude, and the separate streams use a QAM constellation. The separate signal constellation points are intentionally phase-shifted by an optimal angle and combined with power allocation to form a composite constellation. A conjugate objective function is constructed to minimize the total error probability while maximizing the minimum distance between constellation points and ensuring channel constraint. The optimal constellation layer algorithm is implemented adaptively based on channel state information, allowing for improved SIC decoding efficiency, reduced error rate, improved transmission reliability, and increased spectral efficiency of the wireless communication system.
