Abstract

The invention relates to an apparatus for supporting a lying infant comprising a monolithic support body made of a compressible elastic material with a support surface. The support surface comprises a head region with a head-receiving concave area (2) configured to distribute intracranial pressure on the posterior cranial region, and a neck support (1) at the junction of the head-receiving concave area (2) with the body region, together maintaining a gently upward curvature of the cervical spine in the lying position. An upper guard (5) is provided at the head of the support body. The support body defines an inclined plane along its entire length, raising the head region higher than the body region to reduce the risk of gastroesophageal reflux. The leg support (6) at the end of the inclined plane connects with the lumbar support (4) to prevent the infant from shifting along the inclined plane. The body region comprises an inclined plane (3) and a concave lumbar support (4) conforming to the natural curvature of the spine.Two integrated side stabilizing ridges (7) are connected to the neck support ridge (1) located on either side of the head-receiving concave area (2) with an inwardly sloping surface to help keep the infant's head on the midline axis of the support body.
