Abstract
The invention relates to a self-lubricating bearing assembly made of a polymer material for use in corrosive and abrasive environments. The assembly consists of a bearing, a bearing sleeve forming the outer ring, a bushing forming the inner ring for mounting to the shaft, dust seals and end caps, which may be in the form of rolling or sliding bearings. The polymer material makes the bearing assembly corrosion-resistant and lightweight. The bearing has many holes to reduce weight and provide elasticity, and these are sealed by grease end caps to form grease chambers; when the bearing undergoes elastic deformation, grease is pumped to the working surface, providing self-replenishing lubrication. The assembly is lightweight and virtually maintenance-free.
