Adaptive dynamic paneling system for vehicles

Abstract

The invention relates to an adaptive dynamic cladding system for vehicles. The adaptive dynamic cladding system comprises a deployable cladding assembly mounted at the front of the vehicle and includes one or more cladding sections capable of moving between an initial and a deployed position. One or more deploying mechanisms are coupled to one or more cladding sections and are constructed to deploy one or more cladding sections in response to anticipated impact conditions. During deployment, one or more cladding sections move outward along a predetermined path involving translational and rotational motion to create an energy-absorbing cavity between the deployable cladding assembly and the underlying vehicle structure. The adaptive dynamic cladding system is constructed to improve impact energy management and enhance protection for vulnerable occupants in the event of a collision.
