Abstract
The invention relates to an input system for automated visual acuity measurement and a corresponding method for processing input data. The system comprises a modified wireless numeric keypad, in which a group of equally sized input keys are directly identified by standard medical alphabetical characters used in visual acuity measurement, specifically the 10-letter Sloan or 9-letter Snellen set. These alphabetical characters are fixed to the key surface by printing and labeling (decal) or by replacing the physical keys with corresponding character keys, creating a key layout specifically for visual acuity measurement. When the user interacts, the keyboard transmits the original character codes of the numeric keys to the computer; here, a data processing method transforms these character codes into Sloan or Snellen alphabet characters according to a pre-established correspondence, where this correspondence directly reflects the physical layout of the redefined keys on the keyboard and is independent of the display interface of the optometry software. The transformed alphabet characters are then provided to the optometry software for automatic comparison and scoring. The invention allows users to input answers with one hand while ensuring accuracy and consistency according to the standard medical Sloan and Snellen alphabets.
