Description

[0001] Diving device, actuatable gas storage unit and kit of parts

[0002] The present invention is related to a diving device, preferably wearable by a user. The invention is further related to an actuatable gas storage unit for use in a diving device. Moreover, the present invention is related to a kit of parts.

[0003] Diving devices as such are known in the art in different forms. The known diving devices typically comprise a suit which most of the times is a rather expensive type of wetsuit or dry suit. These suits tend to be rather difficult and cumbersome to put on and specially to take them off. However, these suits are designed to keep the divers body temperature within acceptable ranges even when the water temperature at depths exceeding 5m is typically quite low. Under extreme low temperatures a dry suit may even be needed, optionally a heated dry suit. These measures may scare of some of the recreational divers. Besides the suit, the diving devices typically have a harness worn by the diver. A gas cylinder is attached to a rear side of the harness such that the gas cylinder is situated at a user’s back during use. This is because said gas cylinders contain a mixture of gas, typically oxygen and nitrogen, which may be inhaled by the user when worn underwater. However, this gas is stored at a relatively high pressure in order to store a reasonable amount of gas in said cylinder. The amount of gas that is stored within the cylinder determines the time a user may remain underwater. Due to the high pressure it is required that the gas cylinder meets certain safety measures such that explosion of said gas may be avoided. However, in doing so the gas cylinder may become rather heavy. Although this is not necessarily a burden when the user wearing the diving device underwater, it may become difficult to put on the diving equipment and walk to the water.

[0004] The gas cylinder is typically connected to a mouthpiece via a breathing hose to allow a user to breathe underwater by inhaling gas from the gas cylinder. The breathing circuit may be of the open-circuit or closed-circuit type. Closed-circuit type of breathing circuits involves the use of a rebreather, as well as sometimes additional other equipment, which enables the recycling of some of the exhaled gas. This is beneficial since it may increase the time that a diver may spend underwater on a given amount of gas stored inside the gas cylinder. However, such a rebreather is a rather complex and mostly also rather expensive piece of equipment. A crucial portion of such a rebreather is a carbon dioxide scrubber, which is designed to remove carbon dioxide from the exhaled gas.

[0005] However, the diving systems according to the prior art have numeral big disadvantages. First being that the systems are rather complex, which may tend to scare of some users from experimenting with diving. Secondly, it requires training before being allowed to use the device on their own. Thirdly, the equipment is heavy, and complex, and has a limited time of use, particularly the amount of gas to be user and as a consequence the time of diving is limited. Most of the time, it is not the depth that is a limiting factor in diving, but more frequently it is the depletion of air in the gas cylinder which forces divers to abort their dive. Major coral reefs and also other diving spots are frequently situated within relatively shallow waters.

[0006] On the other hand, snorkelling devices are known, but these tend to have a very limited depth. A user may go deeper but this is only after the user has inhaled a big amount of air, and keeps his or her breath to dive deeper. Hence, albeit being simpler in use, the exploratory freedom of use is limited by the lung capacity of a user. After a deeper dive the user has to resurface rather quickly.

[0007] It is a goal of the present invention to provide for a diving device which is simple to use.

[0008] It is a second goal of the present invention to provide for a diving device which allows for relatively long stays underwater, preferably without compromising complexity.

[0009] The present invention thereto proposes a diving device, comprising:

[0010] - at least one actuatable gas storage unit, wherein at least a volume of the actuatable gas storage unit is adjustable by the user;

[0011] - at least one gas supply line, for supplying of gas into the adjustable volume,

[0012] - at least one gas discharge line, for allowing the user to inhale gas from the adjustable volume,

[0013] - at least one gas storage unit actuating element, preferably actuatable by the user, in particular manually actuatable, more in particular wherein the at least one gas storage unit actuating element is configured to adjust the volume of the actuatable gas storage unit, in particular to increase and / or decrease said volume,

[0014] - at least one wearable unit, preferably wearable on a body part of the user, wherein the at least one actuatable gas storage unit is, directly or indirectly, connected or connectable to the at least one wearable unit.

[0015] The present invention provides major benefits over the known diving and snorkeling devices. The present invention is very simple in use, comfortable, and also doesn’t require a diving certification, such as PADI Open Water Diver course. The minimum requirements for recreational divers are defined in The European Standard EN 14153 and in the International Standard ISO 24801. There are three levels of certificates, and these are quite complex and expensive to obtain. The present invention allows a user to enjoy the underwater world on their own without the cumbersome training. The diving device according to the present invention combines the ease of use of a snorkelling device, with the freedom of a diving device. In the present application, reference is made to a user, this may be understood as the person wearing the diving device, and may also be referred to as the diver.

[0016] The actuatable gas storage unit comprises a volume which is adjustable by the user. A gas supply line allows for a supply of gas to the adjustable volume of the actuatable gas storage unit, for storing (at least temporarily) of gas in the adjustable volume. Preferably, the gas that is supplied is surrounding air, which may be retrieved from, at least during normal use, above a water surface level. The gas shall at least comprise oxygen for allowing the user to not be deprived of oxygen and shall preferably also not be toxic. Hence, regular air, as is used for snorkelling, would be usable, and is even preferred. In addition to a gas supply line the device comprises a gas discharge line. Said discharge line allows the user to inhale the gas that is stored in the adjustable volume. Although the gas supply line and gas discharge line are mentioned as two separate features, it is imaginable that said supply line and discharge line are partially integrated. For example, the gas supply line and discharge line may share a common line housing or surrounding, which internally comprises two distinct lines. It is preferred that said gas supply line and said gas discharge line independently connect to the actuatable gas storage unit, in particular in connection with the adjustable volume thereof. The actuatable gas storage unit may alternatively be referred to as gas storage unit, gas storage container, or the like.

[0017] Due to the at least one gas storage unit actuating element, the user may adjust the volume of the gas storage unit. The at least one gas storage unit actuating element may also be referred to as the actuating element for sake of simplicity. Via said actuating element the user may adjust the volume. Adjusting of the volume may in particular be done during use of the device. Adjusting the volume allows for an increase and / or decrease of the adjustable volume of the gas storage unit. Since the gas supply line is connected to the adjustable volume, an increase of the volume by the user may allow for withdrawal of air, via said gas supply line, to the adjustable volume. It is preferred that during an actuation of the actuating element, an open connection may be established between the gas supply line and / or gas discharge line and the adjustable volume. It is in particular the use of the actuating element that makes the use of the device according to the present invention very convenient. For example, where a regular diving device requires specialist equipment to refill the rather heavy gas tanks with new pressurized gas, the present invention allows a user to, in particular manually, refill the gas storage unit. Not only is this very easy to use by every user, but it also allows for longer stays underwater as the user may use the actuating element when the device is used underwater.

[0018] By providing a wearable unit it becomes more comfortable for the user to use the device. Allowing the actuatable gas storage unit to be connectable moreover may allow the user to store the device in a more compact manner which expedites transport of the device. It is preferred that the wearable unit is wearable on the body of the user. For example, the device may be wearable on at least a part of the torso of a user. However, alternatives where the device is wearable on (parts of) the limbs such as legs or arms, are also imaginable.

[0019] The diving device may further comprise at least one floating body, wherein said floating body is, directly or indirectly, connected or connectable, to the at least one gas supply line. The floating body may be beneficial for longer underwater explorations of the user. That is, since the gas supply line is connected or connectable to the floating body a connection between the air above the water surface and the adjustable volume may be established. Preferably, the at least one floating body is allowed to float on a water surface level, at least when making use of the device in the water. It is imaginable that the at least one floating body comprises, at least during normal use, at least one submerged portion and at least one non-submerged portion. Preferably, said submerged portion comprises at least one first opening and wherein said non-submerged portion comprises at least one second opening, which are connected by at least one through hole extending between the at least one first opening and at least one second opening for allowing a flow of gas between said first opening and said second opening. It is conceivable that, at least during normal use of the device, the at least one non-submerged portion of the at least one floating body is, directly or indirectly, in contact with open air. As such, the at least one floating body is configured to feed the at least one gas supply line with gas from the open air. It is also conceivable that the first opening is also provided in the non-submerged portion, however this will yield a less stable floating body. It is also imaginable that the at least one floating body, at least during irregular use of the device, may be used as a repository container, for example a repository container in which at least a part of the features of the present invention can be stored, in particular the wearable unit and / or the actuating element and / or the gas storage unit. Typically, the floating body is an inflatable floating body. The floating body may comprise a discharge and / or a supply member, preferably a valve, for discharging and / or supplying gas out and / or into the floating body. By supplying gas into the inflatable floating body, the buoyancy of floating body may be increase allowing it to float during normal use. By discharging gas of the inflatable floating body, the size of the floating body may significantly reduce, and hence the buoyancy. This is particularly advantage during transport of the floating body. A floating body that can have a significantly reduced sized is easier to transport. In particular compared to a floating body with a fixed size, for example a floating body with a hard cover. Furthermore, the weight of the floating body is relatively limited when the floating body does not comprise a hard cover. The floating body can be made of plastic. The floating body may also be referred to as the floatable body, for the scope of the invention the floating body does not need to be floating, but must be able to float on water. It is imaginable that a bottom side of the inflatable floating body is provided with an additional layer of fabric such as plastic. This was found to provide sufficient weight to maintain an upright position of the floating body on the water surface. Throughout this application, normal use of the diving device may be understood as the use of the diving device worn by the user in the water. Hence, normal use of the device is understood to be when diving, which also covers entering and exiting the water. Besides normal use, irregular use may be defined. Irregular use may be the case when the device is used, not necessarily worn, by a user for testing purposes. This may occur in a store of a reseller, or at home to test the operation of the diving device. In the irregular use, the floating body is obviously not in the water.

[0020] However, the floating body may in the latter case have an imaginable submerged portion and an imaginable non-submerged portion similar to the normal use of the device.

[0021] The at least one floating body may comprise at least one balancing weight, preferably wherein the at least one balancing weight is situated at least partially below a center of gravity of the at least one floating body. The balancing weight contributes to the stability of the floating body. This is especially beneficial in case the water on which the floating body may float, is subjected to waves or the like. The floating body may, during use, move between a balanced position and an unbalanced position. In the balanced position, a central vertical axis of the floating body is oriented substantially orthogonal with an average water surface level. In the aforementioned unbalanced position, the central vertical axis may be situated at least partially at an angle with respect to the average water surface level. The balancing weight may reduce the maximum angle in the unbalanced position of the floating body compared to a floating body without a balancing weight. Hence, a more stable floating body may be achieved. Moreover, said balancing weight may decrease the time required for the floating body to return to the balanced position. This may increase the visibility of the at least one floating body and therefore the safety of the user. The at least one floating body may be move between said balanced position and a unbalanced position, for example due to a specific event, such as wind, waves, or human intervention. Since the balancing weight is at least partially arranged below the center of gravity of the floating body, it contributes to lowering the center of gravity thereof and hence improve the stability. Preferably, said balancing weight is attached, directly or indirectly, to a bottom portion of the floating body, for example a bottom side thereof. Preferably, at least one of the balancing weights has a weight within a range of 50 gram to 750 gram, more preferably within a range of 100 gram to 500 gram, even more preferably around 200 gram. The at least one balancing weight may also be connected to, in particular to a bottom side, the at least one floating body by means of a distancing element. The balancing weight preferably has a density which is larger than the density of water, in particular sea water. It is imaginable that the balancing weight is an adjustable balancing weight, for adjusting the stability of the floating body according to the need of the weather situation. To this end, the balancing weight may have a reservoir which may be filled with a weight increasing substance.

[0022] It is conceivable that the at least one floating body comprises at least one warning element, such as a flag, a light source or a reflecting material. This at least one warning element may increase the safety of the user, in particular when using the device. It is imaginable that said warning element, for example in the case of a light source, is activated upon contact with water such that the user cannot forget to switch on said warning element.

[0023] The at least one floating body may be configured to provide a buoyancy force in the range of 100 Newton to 1 ,750 Newton, preferably 400 Newton to 1 ,750 Newton, more preferably 750 to 1 ,500 Newton, in particular 800 to 1 ,250 Newton. A buoyancy force has proven to be sufficient for the floating body to not only stay afloat, but also allow a user to hold onto said floating body, or even pull himself or herself up above the water surface. This may increase the safety of the device, in particular in the case the user is tired after a dive. It is imaginable that the at least one floating body comprises at least one bar. Preferably, wherein the at least one bar at least extends along a, preferably substantially horizontal, perimeter of the at least one floating body at least in a radial and / or circumferential direction. This may allow the user to hold onto the floating body. Said bar may allow the user to relatively easily hold onto the floating body in case of a malfunction of the device, this bar may be used by the user, since this floating body is most likely the closest object around and can provide for safety. It is imaginable that at least one bar is, directly or indirectly, connected or connectable, to the at least one floating body. The at least one bar may be used by the user to pull up him- or herself. It is also conceivable that the at least one bar can be used to displace the at least one floating body, for example manually or mechanically. The at least one bar is preferably situated in a substantial horizonal direction. In this respect, a substantial horizontal direction may be understood as having an angle of 0 to 25 degrees between the at least one bar and the horizon, at least when the device is in use. It is furthermore imaginable that the floating body comprises a plurality of interconnected bars, arranged at different heights, in particular wherein said bars mutually form a ladder. This may allow the user to exit the water easily to interrupt the dive. For example, to have a rest on the floating body, in case the floating body provides for sufficient buoyancy to carry a user.

[0024] A top side of the floating body may be provided with an gas inlet, wherein said gas inlet is provided with at least one opening protection, which may allow gas to enter the gas supply line, but prevent water from entering said gas supply line. Said opening protection may be screwed onto a gas inlet of the floating body. The opening protection allows for establishing a stream of gas to enter the gas supply line, and to simultaneously prevent water from entering said gas supply line. To this end. To this end, the opening protection comprises at least one water barrier. Gas is able to easily pass said water barrier. Water, to the contrary, cannot easily move upwardly and hence said water barrier block water from entering the gas supply line. Said water barrier may be formed by a fluid labyrinth or labyrinth seal. A bottom side of the opening protection may comprise one or more discharge openings, for discharging water entering the opening protection prior to reaching the at least one gas supply line.

[0025] At least one first end of the at least one gas supply line may be, directly or indirectly, connected or connectable, to the at least one actuatable gas storage unit. The at least one first end of the at least one gas supply line can be connected to the at least one actuatable gas storage unit by means of a releasable mount, in particular a bayonet mount. Preferably, at least one second end of the at least one gas supply line, directly or indirectly, debouches above a surface water level, at least during normal use of the diving device. The second end of the gas supply line preferably debouches above a water surface level via the at least one floating body. To this end, the at least one second end of the at least one gas supply line is, directly or indirectly, connected or connectable, to the at least one floating body, preferably at the at least one submerged portion thereof, in particular to at least one first opening of the submerged portion. Hence, this may allow for a continuous connection of the second end of the gas supply line and the open air in order for the gas supply line to supply gas, in particular air, towards the adjustable volume if actuated by the user. The gas supply line, in particular the second end, may be connected to the floating body by means of a connector. Preferably, such a connector is sealed, such that essentially no water may flow into the adjustable volume via said connector.

[0026] At least one first end of the at least one gas discharge line may be, directly or indirectly, connected or connectable, to the at least one actuatable gas storage unit. The at least one first end of the at least one gas discharge line can be connected to the at least one actuatable gas storage unit by means of a releasable mount, in particular a bayonet mount. Preferably, at least one second end of the at least one gas discharge line is, directly or indirectly, connected or connectable, to an inhalation unit for allowing the user to inhale gas from the at least one adjustable volume. The inhalation unit may for example be formed by a mouthpiece, and / or a nosepiece. It is also imaginable that the inhalation unit is formed by a face mask, which may cover both mouth and nose of a user, and optionally also includes goggles.

[0027] The at least one gas supply line and / or the at least one actuatable gas storage unit may comprise at least one supply valve or supply valve mechanism, wherein said supply valve or supply valve mechanism is configured to block a flow of gas in at least one direction, in particular in a direction from the adjustable volume to the at least one gas supply line. As such, the gas supply line is arranged to provide a flow of gas into the adjustable volume, and to prevent an unintentional discharge of gas from the adjustable volume via said supply line. The at least one supply valve or supply valve mechanism is preferably a non-return valve, wherein said non-return valve is configured to allow a flow of gas in a direction from the at least one gas supply line to the adjustable volume if a pressure difference between an interior of the at least one gas supply line and the adjustable volume exceeds a predefined pressure difference, and block a flow of gas if the pressure difference between the interior of the at least one gas supply line and the adjustable volume is below the predefined pressure difference. This may be achieved via a spring, which provides a predefined preload to the supply valve such that the supply valve, in resting condition, remains closed. Here, closed may be understood as the supply valve essentially sealing, in particular gas permeably sealing, the adjustable volume of the actuatable gas storage unit. It is preferred that the at least one valve, in particular said non-return valve allows a flow of gas, in case the pressure of the adjustable volume is lower than the pressure in the interior of the gas supply line. This allows that, upon opening of said supply valve, gas is automatically flowing into the adjustable volume without a need to force. It is imaginable that the pressure inside the adjustable volume may be lowered, in particular by the user, by increasing the volume of the adjustable volume, which reduces the internal pressure. As a consequence of the reduced pressure, gas may flow via the supply line to fill the increased space, up till the pressure difference again is too small, causing the valve to close and seal the adjustable volume.

[0028] Similar to the at least one gas supply line, the at least one gas discharge line and / or the at least one actuatable gas storage unit may comprise at least one discharge valve, wherein said discharge valve is configured to block a flow of gas in at least one direction, in particular in a direction from the at least one discharge line to the adjustable volume. Preferably, the at least one discharge valve is a one nonreturn valve, wherein said non-return valve is configured to allow a flow of gas in a direction from the adjustable volume to the at least one gas discharge line to if a pressure difference between an interior of the at least one gas discharge line and the adjustable volume exceeds a predefined pressure difference, and block a flow of gas if the pressure difference between the interior of the at least one gas supply line and the adjustable volume is below the predefined pressure difference. The gas discharge line may allow the user to inhale, preferably via an inhalation unit, gas from the gas storage unit, in particular from the adjustable volume. By inhaling gas, the gas is removed from the adjustable volume. By removal of the gas from the adjustable volume it is inevitable that the pressure (at least at constant volume) decreases. The decrease of pressure in the adjustable volume may consequently cause the volume to decrease in size, the external water pressure may also contribute to the decrease. Hence, by inhaling gas the user may decrease the adjustable volume in size. It is preferred to only allow an uptake of gas from the adjustable volume by the user upon an inhalation action of the user.

[0029] The at least one discharge line may be configured to allow the user to inhale gas from the adjustable volume, such that the adjustable volume decreases. The discharge valve may allow for such a one-directional flow of gas. This may allow the user to remain underwater for relatively long times, particularly without a limit. By actuating the actuating element, the user may refill the adjustable volume with gas, in particular fresh air. By inhaling the volume may be reduced. This sequence allows the user to remain underwater and to keep a full tank of breathable gas. The non-return valve further allows unintentional discharge of gas from the adjustable volume. The operating mechanism is similar to the one described in respect of the gas supply line, albeit in opposing direction. Hence, when the pressure inside the gas discharge line is lower compared to a pressure in the adjustable volume a flow of gas may be allowed to flow from the adjustable volume to the second end, in particular the inhalation unit, of the gas discharge unit. Additionally, exhaled gas from the user cannot flow back into the adjustable volume due to the discharge valve. That is, exhalation causes pressure in the gas discharge line to increase, causing the discharge valve to close and seal the adjustable volume. This is beneficial since it prevents the contamination of the usable gas stored inside the adjustable volume.

[0030] The at least one gas supply line and / or the at least one gas discharge line may be connected to the actuatable gas storage unit, in particular the adjustable volume, via a connector, in particular a releasable connector. It is imaginable that the connector is configured to co-act with at least a portion of the actuatable gas storage unit. The gas storage unit may comprise at least one connector coupling, configured to co-act with the coupling of the gas supply line and / or gas discharge line. The at least one connector coupling is preferably at least partially protruding from the gas storage unit, and may comprise one or more locking protrusions. Preferably, the one or more locking protrusions of the connector coupling are configured to co-act with a locking slot arranged on the connector. Preferably, said one or more locking protrusions are arranged on an exterior surface of the connector coupling, and wherein the locking slot is arranged on an interior side of the connector. This may allow for establishing a relatively easy coupling between the actuatable gas storage unit and the gas supply line and / or gas discharge line. It is conceivable that the connector and / or connector coupling at least partially enclose the valve and / or valve mechanism. Preferably, at least one connector coupling is provided on a flattened portion of the actuatable gas storage unit, such that said connector coupling is situated on a stable and flat base surface. The diving device, in particular the at least one gas discharge line and / or the actuatable gas storage unit may further comprise at least one gas exhalation valve. The exhalation valve may allow for discharging gas exhaled by the user from the device, in particular via the gas discharge line. It is important to safely discharge the exhaled gas. This is mainly due to the composition of the exhaled gas, which is less rich in oxygen. It is preferably prevented that exhaled gas is inhaled again since this may lead to suffocation of the user on the long term. It is imaginable, and even preferred, that the at least one valve and the exhalation valve are at least partially integrated, in particular integrated on a single connector or connector coupling. This allows for a relatively compact solution. Moreover, it has surprisingly been found that this solution significantly improved the expelling of water from the gas discharge line and hence significantly reduce the chance a user inhales water. One of the reasons is that by integrating the exhalation valve and the discharge valve on a single connector they are situated relatively close to the adjustable volume. Hence, if at all water enters the discharge line, it will be expelled as soon as it has entered said discharge line preventing the user from inhaling said water. The exhalation valve therefore doubles as exhalation valve and water dispelling valve. This is not only beneficial in terms of reduced complexity, but also in terms of cost and overall safety of the diving device. Preferably, the exhalation valve is situated at an angle, preferably substantially orthogonal, with respect to the discharge valve. It is particularly preferred that the exhalation valve, in particular the side facing away from the interior side of the discharge line, is facing away from the actuatable gas storage unit, and preferably away from the user. This prevents that bubbles caused by exhaled gas to hinder the view of the user.

[0031] The at least one gas supply line and / or the at least one gas discharge line are at least partially provided with reinforcement, in particular reinforcement material, preferably on at least a portion of an outer side. Such a reinforcement may be provided in the form of circular ribs. Due to circular shape the ribs provide excellent resistance to external pressure. Moreover, the ribs may be spaced apart, allowing the line to bend, but to a lesser extent. The reinforcement may prevent that the line folds, and as such obstructs the flow of gas towards the adjustable volume. It is imaginable that a length of the at least one gas supply line and / or the at least one gas discharge line is at least partially resilient, in particular extendable, in the length direction preferably between 1 m and 7 m. Preferably, the length is about 4 m or 5 m, preferably being designed to be extended about 0.5m to 1 m.

[0032] It is imaginable the adjustable volume of at least one actuatable gas storage unit has a predefined internal pressure level. It is conceivable that the gas pressure of the adjustable volume is variable. It is conceivable that said pressure is variable and partially depending on the depth of the gas storage unit relative to a water surface level. It is also conceivable that said pressure at least partially depends on the actuation of the gas storage unit. The gas pressure may depend on a density of the fluid wherein said actuatable gas storage unit is located, the depth of said actuatable gas storage unit, and / or a gravitational acceleration. It may be conceivable that the length of the at least the gas supply line and / or the at least one gas discharge line may impact the depth of said actuatable gas storage unit, and optionally therefore said gas pressure. It is conceivable that the gas pressure in said interior is at most 1.2 bar, preferably 0.7 bar, more preferably 0.5 bar. It is imaginable that the pressure is situated between 0 bar and 1 .2 bar, Yet it may also be situated between 0 bar and 0.1 , and / or 0.5, and / or 0.7 bar or alternative combinations thereof.

[0033] It is conceivable that at least a portion of the at least one wearable unit may be composed out of a water permeable material. Preferably, said wearable unit is at least partially formed out of neoprene. This may contribute to a reduction of the buoyancy of the wearable unit which allows the user to dive easier, or at least requires less weights which contributes to an easier use of the device. It imaginable that the wearable unit further comprises at least one back-strap. Such a back strap may allow the wearable unit to be fixated with respect to the body of a user, which may reduce the movement of the gas storage unit during use.

[0034] The diving device further may comprise at least one intermediate connecting element, for mutually connecting the wearable unit and the at least one actuatable gas storage unit. The intermediate connecting element may be a plate-like element. Preferably, a first side of said intermediate connecting element is, directly or indirectly, connected or connectable, to the at least one wearable unit, and wherein a second side of said intermediate connecting element is, directly or indirectly, connected or connectable, to at least a portion of the at least one actuatable gas storage unit. Optionally, at least a portion of the first side of the intermediate connecting element is at least partially provided with a resilient member, in particular a padding. Preferably, said resilient member is provided at one or more pressure spots, where said intermediate connecting member contacts a body of a user during use. Preferably, a side of the intermediate connecting element facing the body of the user, at least when worn, comprises one or more accommodating pockets or spaces. The resilient member, in particular the padding, may at least partially be accommodated in the accommodating pockets or spaces of the intermediate connecting element. This prevents a shift of the padding during use of the device underwater. The intermediate connecting element may contribute to a more comfortable diving device. Besides making the diving device more comfortable, it provides for a more easy and secure connection between the wearable unit and the gas storage unit. Furthermore, the presence of the intermediate connecting element increases a mutual distance between a body of the user and the actuatable gas storage unit. The distance between the actuatable gas storage unit and the first side of the intermediate connecting element is situated between approximately 0.5 cm and 8.0 cm, preferably between approximately 1.0 cm and 5.0 cm, more preferably between approximately 2.0 cm and 3.0 cm. It was found that this distance significantly contributed to a reduction of the breathing resistance during use.

[0035] When an air-flow of approximately 50L per minute is used, a pressure difference was observed to be on average between -10,0 mbar and 10,0 mbar. This contributes to the ease of inhalation and / or exhalation by the user. Preferably, the intermediate connecting element comprises at least two substantially rigid arms, preferably extending in different directions. It is conceivable that said two arms mutually define a substantially X-shaped or Y-shaped element. The at least two arms may be integrally connected to each other. The mutually connected arms may form a single intermediate connecting element. Said intermediate connecting element may be at least partially curved, preferably double curved. It is preferred that the side facing towards the user is concavely curved. This allows the intermediate connecting element to be at least partially shaped according to the belly of a user, which makes the device more comfortable to wear. In particular if the wearable unit, at least a portion situated below the intermediate connecting element is padded. Preferably, at least one arm, in particular each arm, is provided with at least one slot. Said slot is arranged at an end portion of said arm and configured to receive a coupling element of the wearable unit. This allows for an easy, an optionally adjustable, coupling of the wearable unit and the intermediate connecting element. A first side of intermediate connecting element and a portion of the wearable unit may be provided with at least one pair of first co-acting coupling elements for mutually connecting said intermediate connecting element and the wearable unit. Preferably, a plurality of pairs of first co-acting coupling elements is provided for. It is imaginable that at least one pair of first co-acting coupling elements is at least partially formed by at least one arm and at least one pocket, wherein said at least one pocket is configured to receive at least a portion of the at least one arm. Optionally, a plurality of pockets is arranged on the wearable unit, wherein at least one pocket, preferably all pockets, comprises and / or defines at least one accommodating space, said accommodating space configured for receiving a portion of the intermediate connecting element. By accommodating a portion of an arm of the intermediate connecting element it is possible to retain said intermediate connecting element with respect to the wearable unit. The pocket preferably defines an accommodating space having one entrance. However, it is also conceivable that the pockets comprise an entrance opening and an exit opening, wherein at least one arm extends through the pocket. It is preferred that at least two pockets, more preferably two pairs of two pockets, at least an entrance portion thereof, are facing towards each other. In this respect, it is preferred that the mutually facing pairs of pockets are oriented in an X-orientation. In order to achieve appropriate clamping of the intermediate connecting element, it may be preferred that a distance between two pockets and the length of at least one arm is designed such that the at least one arm is clamped, at least partially, between said two pockets. It is more particularly preferred that two pairs of opposing pockets clamp two arms of the intermediate connecting element. The clamping may provide for a stable connection between intermediate connecting element and the wearable unit, at least in an X and Y direction, as seen in the plane of the intermediate connecting element. In order to further increase the clamping properties of said pockets, it is conceivable that at least a portion of at least one pocket, in particular a portion of a surface facing the at least one accommodating space of said pocket, comprises a friction increased material and / or coating. Said friction increased material may for example be rubber, or the like. Similarly, a second side of intermediate connecting element and a portion of the actuatable gas storage unit may be provided with at least one pair of second coacting coupling elements for mutually connecting said intermediate connecting element and the actuatable gas storage unit. Hence, the intermediate connecting element may allow for easy (and releasable) coupling between the wearable unit and the gas storage unit. This intermediate connecting element both increases the wearing comfort of the device, but also allows for a better coupling. Preferably, at least one pair of co-acting second coupling elements is at least partially formed by at least one recess and at least one finger and / or pin, wherein said at least one recess is configured to at least partially receive said at least one finger and / or pin. Preferably, at least two recesses and at least two, more preferably at least four fingers are provided. Said fingers may be arranged on a belt element of the gas storage unit or the gas storage unit itself, which will be further discussed with respect to the components of the gas storage unit. For establishing a locking of the belt element and the intermediate connecting element, it is conceivable that a locking pin is provided, which locking pin is configured to co-act with openings in the belt element and the intermediate connecting element. Said openings being aligned in a coupled condition. The locking pin may for example be a screw. It is also imaginable that at least one pair of second co-acting coupling elements is at least partially formed by a receiving space, preferably as part of the intermediate connecting element, and a protruding element, preferably part of the gas storage unit in particular the belt thereof, wherein the receiving space is configured to receive at least a part of the protruding element. If the protruding element is received in the receiving space, a number of openings aligns which openings allow for a locking screw to be inserted for mutual locking of the gas storage unit to the intermediate connecting element. Optionally, the intermediate connecting element and the gas storage unit further comprise at least one second pair of second coacting coupling elements, arranged at a distance from the first pair of second coupling elements. Particularly wherein the first and second pair of second coacting coupling elements are mutually different. At least one pair of second coupling elements is formed by at least one, preferably at least two slots and / or grooves, preferably provided onto the intermediate connecting element, and at least two pins, said pins configured to co-act with the slot and / or grove, and preferably provided onto the gas storage unit, in particular the rigid part thereof. Said pins preferably lock the gas storage unit at least in a direction from and towards the intermediate connecting element. It is preferred that the second pair of second co-acting coupling elements allows for initial placement of the gas storage unit on the intermediate connecting element, and the first pair of second co-acting coupling elements allows for a stronger relative fixation of the latter with respect to each other. Preferably, the second pair of co-acting second coupling elements is formed by a flange protruding from the gas storage unit, which is mounted to a recess on the intermediate connecting element, preferable via a screw or bolt for a secure connection.

[0036] The at least one actuatable gas storage unit may comprise at least one rigid part and at least one flexible part, wherein said rigid part and said flexible part mutually enclose at least a part of the at least one adjustable volume. Preferably, the rigid part is substantially closed on the top side, and comprises at least one opening on the bottom side thereof. Substantially closed on the top side may be understood as only comprising the connections with the gas supply line and gas discharge line. Said flexible part is designed to allow for the adjustment of the volume and hence to allow for actuation of the gas storage unit. The rigid part is beneficial as it prevents that the pressure at a depth below the water surface compresses the volume too much. Preferably, the at least one flexible part is detachably mounted, directly or indirectly, to the at least one rigid part. It is imaginable that the at least one rigid part and the at least one flexible part are each, directly or indirectly, connected or connectable, to at least one belt element. Said belt element may be formed out of substantially rigid material, such as plastic or the like. The belt element may be substantially ring-shaped, particularly oval shaped, having one opening. The at least one belt element is at least partially deformable, at least in a radially inward and / or a radially outward direction. Said deformation may allow the belt element to clamp the flexible part of the gas storage unit to the rigid part of the gas storage unit. The belt element may exert a clamping force to the flexible part of the gas storage unit. It is conceivable that the rigid part of the gas storage unit is provided with a recess, preferably extending in circumferential direction. Said recess is configured to act as a seat for the belt element, clamping the flexible part between the recess and belt element. Due to the water exerting a radially inward pressure, the deeper the user dives the more clamping force will be exerted. This provides for a strong and simple connection between the latter, which is able to withstand the required pressures whilst still allowing for maintenance and detachment when not under the water surface. In order to reduce the wear and tear of the flexible part it is further conceivable that an interior surface of the rigid part is substantially smooth, preferably provided with a friction decreasing substance and / or coating. This may increase the lifespan of the device. Particularly since actuation of the gas storage unit causes the flexible part of the gas storage unit to move with respect to the rigid part of the gas storage unit. During depletion of the volume, the flexible part may move into the space bounded by the rigid part, causing mutual friction. On the long run such friction may cause cracks or weak spots which is obviously undesired. It is imaginable that the at least one actuating element is connected, directly or indirectly, to the flexible part of the gas storage unit. Preferably said actuating element and flexible part are mutually connected by means of welding, in particular heat welding, and / or by means of stitching. It is preferred the actuating element is formed by one or more belts, which may be connected to feet or hands of the user for actuating. Said belts may be welded and / or stitched to a lower portion of the flexible part. Preferably, a lower portion, extending about 5 cm, more preferably about 7.5 cm, in particular 9 cm or 10 cm from the lowest portion of the flexible part, is welded together. Preferably, at least one strap is stitched to said welded portion over a length of about 5 cm, preferably of about 7 cm. This allows for reliable and rigid connection of the actuating element to the flexible part. Additionally, it provides for a good seal of the flexible part, at least the bottom side thereof. The flexible part is preferably at least partially tapered, at least in a direction from the connection with the rigid part towards an opposing end of the flexible part. The tapered shape allows the flexible part to easily move onto the bottom opening of the rigid part. Preferably, the flexible part is formed out of a cylindrical shape. The tapered shape may be established by a fold, in particular a sharp fold on one end of the cylinder. It is imaginable that the flexible part is formed by a flexible polymer material, preferably thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). It was surprisingly found that TPU provides the right amount of flexibility to prevent the material to break during use, whilst at the same time providing sufficient rigidity to withstand the forces exerted by the user.

[0037] The adjustable volume of the actuatable gas storage unit may have a maximum size of 6.0 L, 5.4, optionally 5.5 L, 5.0 Lin particular 4.5 L. It was found that this volume, in particular the volume of 4.5 L, provides for an optimum between required addition weight and the required frequency to refill the gas storage unit. Furthermore, the volume of 4.5 L allows for a relatively easy take up of gas (air) from the storage unit by the user. Also, the volume of 4.5 L may prevent that the user needs to carry a relatively large gas storage unit, which may diminish comfort of user during wearing and / or swimming. Additionally, this particular volume contributed to a lower balancing weight that may be provided for balancing the user underwater. It was further found that a volume smaller than 4.0 L involved that the user has a relatively limited volume of gas readily available, which may cause a possible shortage of gas. Preferably, the volume is at least 1 .0 L, more preferably 2.0 L and even more preferably 3.0 L. The specific volume also significantly contributed to a reduction of the breathing resistance during use. When an air-flow of approximately 50L per minute is used, a pressure difference was observed to be on average between -10,0 mbar and 10,0 mbar. It was also found that larger volumes, typically in the range of about 6.0 L and more, require relatively much counterweight to compensate for the buoyancy. In fact, during use of the device it was found that the amount of time the user does not move, and hence does not refill the gas storage unit, is relatively limited, and therefore a smaller volume suffices. In order to compensate the buoyancy of the gas storage unit, one or more weights may be attached or attachable to the wearable unit. The wearable units may to this end comprise at least one shoulder strap, wherein one or more weights are attachable to the at least one shoulder strap. It is particularly preferred if one or more weights are at least partially accommodated in weight pockets, said weight pockets preferably being arranged on the wearable unit, preferably wherein at least one weight pocket comprises a safety release connection. The weight pocket, preferably a bottom side of the weight pocket, and the wearable unit are each provided with a portion of hooks and / or loops (in particular Velcro), such that the weight pocket can be adhered to the wearable unit easily. The at least one weight pocket may, in addition or alternatively, be coupled to the wearable unit via a safety release connection. The safe release connection preferably comprises, at least one loop, preferably at least one pair of loops. It is also conceivable that two or more pairs of loops are provided. The loops or pairs of loops are arranged on or connected, in particular stitched, to the wearable unit. The safety release connection further comprises at least one, preferably at least one pair of strips or flaps, wherein a first end or first part of the at least one strip or at least one pair of strips (or flap(s)) is connected, preferably stitched, to the weight pocket. Said strips or flaps being configured or dimensioned to be inserted through the loops. The safety release connection further comprises at least one emergency release grip, connected to a side of the weight pocket, in particular a side opposing the strips or flaps. The emergency release grip preferably connected to a second part in particular a second end opposing the first end of the strips or flaps. Said connection of the emergency release grip and the strips or flaps preferably formed by Velcro. The emergency release grip being connected to the weight pocket at two locations (forming a grabbable loop), wherein the emergency release grip is provided with a Velcro portion for connection to the strips or flaps, said Velcro portion preferably provided onto an outward facing surface of the emergency release grip. The latter ensures the release grip, when pulled by a user during use, always releases from the strip. In coupled condition of the emergency release grip and the strip or flap, the Velcro portion of the emergency grip is connected to the Velcro portion of the second end of the strip or flap, and in particular faces towards weight pocket. The emergency release grip may be rotatably coupled, i.e. , by a rotation axis formed by a stitch line, to the weight pocked, preferably at two different points (forming a grabbable loop). The emergency release grip may comprise a second hinge line, formed by a second stitch line at a distance from the weight pocket. The Velcro portion of the emergency release grip preferably being arranged between the two hinge lines. Due to the hinging capabilities, the Velcro in coupled condition faces towards the weight pocket instead of outwardly, nevertheless the Velcro is arranged on the outward surface of the grip. The outward facing surface of the emergency release grip is preferably provided with a visual indicator, which marks the location for the user to pull in case of emergency. Once pulled, the weight pocket is completely released and allows the user to automatically surface. Where reference is made to Velcro, this is understood and / or may be replace, with reference to a loop and hook fastener. The weight pocket may comprise a plurality, preferably two partition walls. Said partition walls may be fabric walls and preferably are arranged in the weight pocket. Said partition walls at least separate the interior space of the weight pocket.

[0038] It is also conceivable that such a safety release connection may be provided between the connection of the one or more weights to the wearable unit, in particular the shoulder straps. The safety release connection is configured to release at least one weight by the user with a single hand. This is particularly beneficial in case of an emergency, such as a leak of the gas storage unit requiring the user to immediately resurface. At least one weight is at least partially composed of cement, preferably a coated cement. The coating may be beneficial to prevent corrosion of the water and the cement. At least one weight may be connected or connectable to a back and / or shoulder portion of the wearable unit.

[0039] The at least one gas storage unit actuating element may be manually actuatable by the user, preferably by means of at least one of the limbs of the user, preferably at least one leg of the user. This allows the user to relatively easily refresh the gas content in the actuatable gas storage unit. Particularly if the gas storage unit actuating element is at least partially formed by one or more elements wearable on a foot and / or ankle and / or arm of a user, wherein said wearable elements are connected to the gas storage unit, in particular the flexible part thereof. Hence, this allows the user to automatically refill the volume of the gas storage unit during a dive session. There is no need to keep moving as the gas storage unit may provide for at least a limited time of gas to the user. The wearable elements may be connected to the actuatable gas storage unit with one or more cords and / or wires, wherein said cords and / or wires are at least partially enclosed in a protective cover, in particular a neoprene cover. This is beneficial to prevent that the skin of a user gets irritated by the cords or wires. The wearable unit may comprise at least one storage compartment. Preferably, the storage compartment is accessible by the hands of a user. This may allow the user to take along an underwater camera or a phone in a waterproof casing relatively easily. The wearable element in particular is releasable sock, said releasable sock comprising (at least in worn or closed condition) a first opening, for accommodating a part of a leg of a user, a second opening for accommodating a heel of a user and a third opening for accommodating a part of a bridge of a foot of a user. The wearable element preferably is foldable between an opened position and a closed position. The wearable element may be kept in the closed position by a hooks and loops closing element, or the like. Said wearable element, in particular the sock is adjustable in size, in particular diameter.

[0040] The wearable unit may at least partially be formed by a wearable vest. Optionally, said vest may be adjustable by one or more straps which allows a user to tightly strap the device to the torso of the user. In order to prevent that the user gets tangled up in the straps of the wearable unit one or more, preferably elastic, loops may be provided. This may allow the user to attach the excess material in the loops such that the excess material is tucked away. Optionally, the wearable unit comprises an attachable band, in particular a waist band. Preferably wherein the wearable vest and the attachable band are mutually connectable, preferably via hooks and loops, more preferably Velcro, wherein the wearable vest and the attachable band are at least partially provided with a layer of hooks and / or loops. The attachable band also allows a user to tightly strap the device to the torso of the user, preferably in proximity of the hips of the user, more preferably above the hips of the user. The waist band may also be integral part of the wearable unit.

[0043] - at least one flexible gas storage part, wherein said rigid gas storage part and said flexible gas storage part mutually enclose at least one adjustable volume of the actuatable gas storage unit. Optionally, the at least one flexible gas storage is at least partially composed out of rubber. It is also imaginable that the at least one rigid gas storage part and the at least one flexible gas storage part are each, directly or indirectly, connected or connectable, to at least one belt element, wherein the at least one belt element is at least partially deformable, at least in a radially inward and / or a radially outward direction. The benefits as elucidated with respect to the actuatable gas storage unit of the diving device discussed above apply mutatis mutandis to the actuatable gas storage unit.

[0056] In figure 1 , an overview of a diving device 100 according to an embodiment of the present invention is shown. The diving device 100 may be used by a user for the purpose of swimming. The diving device 100 provides the benefits of the freedom of diving, and the ease of use of snorkelling. In the shown embodiment of the present invention, the diving device 100 comprises an actuatable gas storage unit 101 , which is used for storage of gas, in particular air. A volume of the actuatable gas storage unit 101 is adjustable by a user, in this embodiment the user can manually adjust the volume by means of an actuating element 105. The actuatable gas storage unit 101 comprises a rigid part 122 and a flexible part 123, said rigid part 122 and flexible part 123 together enclosing the adjustable volume. The flexible part 123 is detachably mounted to the rigid part 122, via a belt element 124 (not shown in this figure). This may allow to detach the at least one flexible part 123, for example for maintenance purposes. The at least one belt element 124 is at least partially deformable, preferably in a radially inward and / or radially outward direction. This may allow the at least one belt element to follow differences in shape of the at least one rigid part 122 and / or the at least one flexible part 123, for example due to pressure differences as a result of an increasing water load during diving. The gas storage unit actuating element 105 is manually actuatable by the user, preferably by means of at least one of the limbs of the user, preferably at least one leg of the user. To this end, the flexible part 123 of the gas storage unit 101 , preferably on a lower side of the at least one flexible part 123, can be connected to at least one of the limbs of the user via said actuating element 105. A connection between the at least one flexible part 123 and the at least one limb of the user may allow the user to adjust the adjustable volume, for example by stretching at least one of the limbs. In this figure, the actuating element is formed by two elements 128 which are wearable on the feet of the user. Said wearable elements 128 are connected, via a cord or belt 127, to the bottom side of the flexible part 123. This may allow the user to manually control the adjustable volume of gas, in particular air, that is available for the user. By stretching his or her legs, the user actuates the actuating element 105, 127, 128. As a result of actuating the at least one gas storage unit actuating element 105 by the user, the adjustable volume increases. Due to the increased volume the adjustable volume has a lower pressure and hence a pressure difference between the adjustable volume and an interior of the at least one gas supply line is present. This pressure difference causes a supply valve to open in order to provide for a stream of gas, in particular air towards the volume to fill the adjustable volume with gas for the user to use thereafter. The at least one supply valve is configured to block a flow of gas in at least one direction, particularly in a direction from the adjustable volume to the at least one gas supply line 102. This may prevent that the stored gas is leaked back into the open air. If the pressure difference between an interior of the gas supply line 102 and the adjustable volume is too small, the valve will close. The supplied gas may be retrieved from an open air. To this end, the gas supply line 102 is connected to a floating body 106. Said floating body 106 during a dive (hence normal use of the device 100) will remain afloat on a water surface. A top side of the floating body 106 comprises a second opening 110 which is in contact or debouches in said open air. Therefore, the gas supply line 102 is in contact, via the floating body 106, with the open air. The gas supply line 102 in this embodiment is connected to a first opening 111 on the bottom side 111 of the floating body 106. In this embodiment the gas supply line 102 is connected to the actuatable gas storage unit 101 via a connector 117. Although not shown in this figure, it is imaginable that the floating body 106 comprises a balancing weight. Such a balancing weight may stabilize the floating body 106 making it less likely to tip over. To this end, the balancing weight is positioned below a center of gravity of the floating body 106. When the floating body 106 is floating, it may have a submerged and unsubmerged potion. The floating body 106 may be provided with a bar 113, said bar extend along a substantially horizontal, perimeter of the floating body 106, preferably in a radial direction. The user may use said bar 113 to pull him- or herself up, out of the water. This may allow the user to rest on the floating body 106 if needed.

[0057] The user can use the inhalation unit 114, which in this instance is formed by a mouthpiece 114, but may also be formed by a nosepiece and / or a facemask, to inhale air from the adjustable volume. The inhalation unit 114 is connected to a discharge line 103, which discharge line 103 connects to the actuatable gas storage unit 101 , in particular the rigid part 122 thereof. When the user inhales air from the adjustable volume via said inhalation unit 114, a pressure difference between an interior of the gas discharge line 103 and the adjustable volume is created. The pressure difference causes the discharge valve to open, and to allow a flow of gas from the adjustable volume to the mount of the user. When the pressure difference is too low, i.e., when the user stops inhaling, the discharge valve closes and seals the adjustable volume. When the user exhales the air may leave the system via an exhalation valve (not shown in this figure). Not only may the exhalation valve be used to discharge exhaled gas, it may also serve to flush any water in the discharge line 103 from the system. Preferably, said discharge valve and exhalation valve are integrated in a single connector 117.

[0058] In figure 2, an exploded overview of the diving device 100 is depicted. This exploded view provides a detailed overview of different portions of the device 100. In the embodiment shown int this figure, the at least one gas supply line 102 is provided with reinforcement 129, formed by for example at least partially by plastic material. This reinforcement 129 may reduce the chances that the gas supply line 102 folds and as such restricts the flow of gas to the adjustable volume. This embodiment shows the intermediate connecting element 119 in more detail. Said intermediate connecting element 119 can be connected to the wearable unit 104 via pockets 121 provided onto the wearable unit 104. Four arms 120 may to this end be received in said pockets to establish a clamping connection between the wearable unit 104 and the connecting element 119. The intermediate connecting element 119 comprises at least two substantially rigid arms 120. It is also conceivable that the at least two arms of the at least one intermediate connecting element 119 define an X-shape, or optionally Y-shape (not shown in figure 3). In order to increase the comfort of the device 100, the at least one intermediate connecting element 119 is partially curved, preferably double curved or concave. This may also allow the firmness of the mutual connection of said intermediate connecting element 119 with the at least one actuatable gas storage unit 101. It is conceivable that the at least one accommodating space of said pocket 121 comprises a friction increased material. This allows the accommodating space to have improved grip on the arms 120 that enters the accommodating space to be clamped. The gas supply line 102 is connected to the rigid part 122 of the gas storage unit 101 via a connector 117. Said connector formed by a connector coupling 131 , which protrudes from the rigid part 122 of the gas storage unit 101. Said connector coupling 131 comprising a pin 132 which pin 132 is configured to co-act with a slot 133 in the connector 117. Hence, a very easy coupling and decoupling is conceivable. Said connector 117 may enclose the supply valve 115. Connected to the connector 117 may be a reinforcement 129 which prevents kinks in the gas supply line 102. Similarly, the gas discharge line 103 is connected to the rigid part 122 of the gas storage unit 101 via a connector 117. Said connector may also comprise a slot 133 (not shown) for convenient coupling and decoupling from the connector coupling 133. The discharge connector 117 encloses a gas discharge valve 116. Moreover, an exhalation valve 118 is provided onto said connector 117. Said gas exhalation valve 118 is enclosed and / or protected by a cover element 130. The exhalation valve has a double function. First, it provides for discharge of exhaled gas from the gas discharge line 103. Secondly, it allows for removal of moisture in the discharge line 103, if present that is. By exhaling the water will be forced out, via said discharge valve, into the water. When inhaling, the exhalation valve 118 remains closed, which is due to the reduced pressure in the discharge line 103, but also due to external pressure of the water. In order to provide for an easy dive, one or more weights 125 may be attached or attachable to the wearable unit 104. Said weights may be formed out of cement, preferably enclosed in a plastic cover. The intermediate connecting element 119 may allow for coupling of the gas storage unit 101 to the wearable unit 104. To allow for said coupling, a first pair of second co-acting coupling elements 134, and a second pair second co-acting coupling elements 135 are provided for. Said first and second pair of second co-acting coupling elements 134, 135 are mutually different. The pair of second co-acting coupling elements 135 is formed by two slots 136, which slots 136 are designed to co-act with a protruding pin (not shown) on the rigid part 122 of the gas storage unit 101. The pair of first locking elements 134 is formed by recesses 137 formed on the intermediate connecting element 119 and a number of fingers or pins 138 provided onto a belt element 124. A pin (not shown) may mutually lock the fingers and recesses into place. The belt element 124 not only allows for coupling to the intermediate connecting element 119, but also allows for coupling of the flexible part 123 and rigid part 122 of the gas storage unit 101. The rigid part 122 is provided with one recess or seat 139, into which recess or seat 139 a top portion 140 of the flexible part 123 is to be placed. The belt element 124 may clamp rigid part 122 and flexible part 123 together to establish a coupling of the two.

[0059] Figure 3 lastly shows the device 100 as worn by a user. Here, the user wears the wearable unit 104. It can be seen that the device is worn on the front side of the body of a user. The gas storage unit 101 , which in this embodiment is defined by a rigid part 122 and a flexible part 123, together defining the adjustable volume. The gas supply line 102 and gas discharge line 103 both connected to the gas storage unit 101 via a connector 117.

[0060] Figure 4 shows a front view (right) and side view (left) of the intermediate connecting element 119. The intermediate connecting element 119 is, in the shown embodiment, formed by two arms, indicated by the arm centerlines 114, which are mutually connected such as to form the connecting element 119. At the end portions 120, the arms protrude, forming parts of the arms 120 that can be accommodated in a pocket of the wearable unit (not shown) such as to form the pair of first co-acting coupling elements. The pair of second co-acting coupling elements is partially shown in this figure. The connecting element 119 comprises a first pair of co-acting coupling elements formed at least partially by two recesses 137, which are adapted to co-act with fingers of the belt element (not shown). In addition to the recesses, a through hole 142 is provided, which is adapted to co-act with a through hole of the belt element, such as to allow a pin or screw to be inserted to lock the belt element to the intermediate connecting element 119.
