Abstract
The invention proposes a recombinant Escherichia coli strain carrying the BsglpFKD gene cluster and a procedure for creating this strain to enhance glycerol consumption. The BsglpFKD gene cluster, comprising the glpF, glpK, and glpD genes derived from Bacillus subtilis ST123, is assembled onto an expression vector containing two T7 promoters to create a recombinant plasmid, which is then transformed into Escherichia coli BL21(DE3) host cells and screened for positive colonies. The resulting recombinant Escherichia coli strain is capable of utilizing glycerol more efficiently than the control strain in a minimal medium with glycerol as the carbon source. The invention is useful for microbial cultures and biological processes using glycerol as a substrate.
