Abstract
This invention proposes a process for the non-combustion disposal of propellant waste on PVC substrates and the recovery of ammonium perchlorate (NH4ClO4) oxidizing agent with high purity. The process includes the following main steps: cutting the waste into 1-3 mm pieces; soaking in deionized water at 50-70°C for 10-12 hours at a ratio of 1:10; separating the solid-liquid phase using a plate and frame filter; extracting the plasticizer with n-hexane at a ratio of 1:5; concentrating the solution under vacuum at 69-90°C and a pressure of 100-300 mbar; cooling down to 10-15°C for crystallization; recovering and washing the ammonium perchlorate with cold water at 5°C, removing the water using a centrifuge, and drying the NH4ClO4 crystals using a vacuum dryer. This invention allows for the recovery of ammonium perchlorate with a purity exceeding 98%, completely eliminating the traditional incineration method, reducing the risk of fire, explosion, and toxic emissions, and being environmentally friendly. The process utilizes common equipment, operates safely and in a closed system, and has the potential for scaling up in the defense sector.
